personally, I think you're better off without covering your coil (blocking it from air)

I don't feel like it's blocking any air flow.. I just lay one tiny strand over the first coil, then lay my second coil opposite to the first, then jsut cut the strand to the size of the coil. I think That's how Bishop did his on one of his first Ithaka videos, but I'm still unclear on whether or not you need to keep the coils apart.

I typically have about a .7ohm dual coil.

I think I will try without any filler piece when I set it up next with my Ekowool (If it ever gets here!!)

I just meant blocking air from flowing around your coil.
Coils can touch without problems.

No problem at all. Have you tried and wind up above the ceramic? In fact there is room for filler piece.

precisely. my current setup is 2mm ekowool, above the ceramic. i believe it may be partially from sloppily twisted coils. if only i could get the zapper from juice kitchen to work for once this wouldnt be an issue. anyway, i just keep the juice flow wide open for my .5 ohm dual coil build, so it hasnt caused issues (yet)

Could be your wires but should be enough room with twisted wires. I am also using ribbon wire now welded with Tsaf. I think you can make the duals with 2mm Ekowool and twisted wires as there is room for the joined pieces.Good luck to ya.

WindLvr, The Ekowool should be the Hollow or Threaded?

That zapper sounds interesting. Is there a link or video that can give more info how to build.

I used the 2mm size from vape-atomizer-mesh.com, and all the 2mm is hollow.

I found the plans to build a zapper from a user here on ECF. I don't remember his screen name here, but I contacted him on the instructables website. He answered all my questions, and he has posted a very detailed tutorial on how to make one. I bought all the parts from Digikey except the LM2577 board. That I got on eBay for $4.37 shipped from China. The rest of the parts cost me something like $13 shipped. Here is a link to the one I am building: Small Welder for joining Nichrome and Nickel Wires It is by no means the only way to build one. It is also not the only one out there on the net with plans. Breaktru has plans on his forum for building one using a disposal camera! I am better at building everything with parts and instructions!

Let me know what you think of it. The wick that came with my Ithakas unravels very easily and it can be a huge PITA.

CoV just announced the steel window replacements in stock.. finally! I just got one :)

I also have 6 feet of Ekowool coming, should be here Friday... can't wait to give that a try! I better like it because I'm just about out of 2.5mm silica (I do have 3mm, though)

Can anyone let me know and compare the Vape Mesh Company Ekowool to the Ebay seller Mr. Wick?

Just wondered if there is a difference in quality. I wouldn't mind trying the vape mesh company, but just to try the 2mm and 1.5 mm (both hollow) shipping would be a little over 10 dollars, which is about twice the amount of the cost of the ekowool.

I made the one that Breaktru did a writeup on on his forums out of disposable cameras. Works great if you have a multi meter and some patience.

Yeah that's exactly why I went with ebay.. I'm willing to bet they are exactly the same, I think "EkoWool" is just a brand name - but I could be wrong!

One thing I'm confused about is hollow vs not hollow. Both are listed on the EkoWool website.. the kind I got has a hollow center.

I didn't get Ekowool from Mr Wick, but the silica I got from him was garbage. I couldn't even use it, because it just fell apart on me. It was the same both times I ordered from him. With The Mesh Company I have never had a problem with anything I've ever bought from them. I have definitely spent my fair share of money there lol. I am using the 2mm Ekowool from them, and it seems to have a slight break in period in my Ithaka, but once it gets that point it works awesome. It seems to hold more juice than regular silica. I have yet to get a dry hit even when chain vaping, which I am known to most days lol. I have silica, nr wire, kanthal a1, and a couple of other things from them too. I like that I can go to their site and order all my coil building needs in one place for a change.

DarkReign...The wire welder you mentioned there is the one that led me to the one I built. I am not very good at salvaging and sourcing items from other items. I am much more suited to building something from a bag of parts. From what I understand they all take a bit of patience, and you most definitely need a multi-meter to set it up properly.

Do you know what kind of silica wick you bought from him? I ask because I'm pretty sure EkoWool is EkoWool.. so it should all be the same.. maybe he just has a crap source for silica?

Hopefully the EkoWool is good from him, I can't imagine how it would be any different than anyone else, unless I'm wrong in EkoWool being a brand?

I think he has a 10 day return policy, too, so that's good if need be.

Thanks Sub, if you don't mind let me know what you think the ebay ekowool is like, I may look around for other sources to if I can some just to try. If I like it willing to do the mesh company cause would be worth a bigger order.
