I started using Kanthal A1 .5x.1mm ribbon wire on monday. Joining with the Tsaf for single coil set up. I really like this wire. Too early to say the best yet but leaning that way.

Interesting.. I've got to try it.. Have you tried using dual coils at all with the ribbon? How well does the tsaf weld it? I assume you're using switch 4 for welding it?

I have not gotten to duals yet. Wires are made up with 30g pure nickel and joined using number 3 on the Tsaf. Comes out perfect! Duals shall be this weekend.

Single or dual the ribbon works pretty nice IMHO :) I've only been playing with it for about a month, but have run it in all of my various rebuildables and have not yet found a place it doesn't work great. I don't have a wire welder, though I'm finding it pretty easy to twist my coils together without much difficulty

OK, I have a little question here. Why do I sometimes, repeat, sometimes get a burnt taste as if a wicking issue is there, and then good wicking after two or three puffs???? I can see air bubbles getting into the tank from the ceramic channels, so my ithaka is breathing right and wicking right. What causes that burnt taste every now and then?

I've not used an Ithaka yet, but on other atomizers I've experienced similar behavior and it seems to me that it wasn't wicking as fast as the coil was vaporizing. This could especially be the case if you're running ribbon at a super-low resistance. It would just get so hot it vaporizes everything before more stuff can soak in.

Man...there's so many things that could contribute to this...it's almost impossible for us to answer... you just have to figure out what it is. Could be high VG juice/juice control not open enough/fresh battery on coil that might be too low in resistance.... etc etc. Personally, I have NEVER had burnt taste from Ithaka...good luck I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Sometimes when you have a really gunked up coil, you have burnt taste, even if you open the liquid control. Check that as well since a gunked up coil is saturated with gunk.

I've been using dual welded 0.6x1.0 with 32awg Nickel NR (1.5Ω each)

In an "X" wick setup:

Works fantastic. Only issue I've had is that it's lasting too long, I don't want to tear it up till it needs it but want to tinker... I think this setup has been going for about 4 weeks now and not showing signs of needing to be rebuilt yet.

Wait wait wait... that's a problem for you?
I hear some people say ribbon kanthal gunks up faster - I've gotta try this myself! My coils gunk up pretty fast, especially because I typically use darker high VG liquids. I would love some extended life!

4 weeks?! damn, I can't get nearly that long, but most of my juices tend to be pretty gunk-prone. I think my current Ithaka setup is around a week and a half old and is due for a rebuild, dry burning didn't revitalize it fully the last time. I'd love to have my setups last longer, but heck I'm perfectly happy with getting the average 5-7 fills between rebuilds I usually get

yeah I'd be happy to extend my coils an extra week (I probably get 1-2 weeks now) - where are you guys getting this ribbon kanthal?

Ribbon is available at COV as well as many other larger places. I highly suggest you find it. Five days in on the first single coil with about 15ml. thru it using 20/80 pg/vg. With five dry burns and the best taste yet and no signs of needing to change it other then wanting to try a dual coil.

My Ithaka build is almost 2 months old now. I only dry burn every 5 days to a week. It is at .9 ohms dual coil x if I remember right it is using .16 Nichrome with .236 Nickel. Although my juice is the only reason it is lasting this long.

my setup is 2 weeks old kill. I dont dryburn but I only vape at 6 volts when smoke is not big as the first days. Then I vape again at 3,7 volts and smoke is back
