Went pretty damn well for my first time out! I followed this build - single 28 gauge 3/4 wrap, not sure what variety of mesh it was, random piece from fasttech. The first tank of 5P Gambit went through pretty well, started getting a few dry hits on the second. Definitely noticed the extra flavor, more detailed - like switching from 720p video up to 1080p, if that makes sense.

I'm a dual coil guy, so I've switched back to my regular dual coils w/ rayon until I can get a range of mesh sheets to experiment with. From here on out I'm vaping my own DIY liquid, VG from 75% to 90% - what's the general rule of thumb for mesh count with high VG?

High VG should be vaped with the lowest count that you can get.

50/50 really is the best, though.

As for your build - if you started to get dry hits, I would suspect a loop of the coil pinching the wick, or a kink in the wick.

Just ordered some 200 to try out - what count would you recommend for 50/50? 5P 50/50 has been working great even with Rayon, so I'm open to scaling back my DIY - good chance to use up the PG nic I have lying around.

The wick I made is the straw inside a straw, with the inner one reaching lower, as per the video. Probably didn't help that I was basically chain vaping, since I'm used to dual coils.

When you use 50/50 the mesh you use is going to depend on the ohms you vape, the # of wraps you use, and, believe it or not, the altitude you live at.
This is where gennys get very personal in the way you set them up, and require experimentation to get right.
At this point, short if being there with you, advice gets hard.
However:
There are some general rules:
The lower the count of the mesh, the faster it wicks, but the less juice is held. You need to balance wicking speed vs chain vaping dry hits. When you get the balance right, you will have a no tilt needed chain vaping nic monster.
You want just enough wraps to create an even heat across the wick, but still cover the area from deck to top screw, and still deliver the resistance desired.
Too many, and you will get burnt juice stuck bewtween then kanthal and the wick.
Too few, you will get dry hits.
The more mesh that is rolled inti the wick, the more juice is held. This can be used to balance low count mesh. Roll too much, however, and it wont wick.

It is funny how times have changed. Group think is an interesting phenomenon....three years ago everyone was spreading false information...the common belief was the higher the count of the mesh the faster the wicking and the tighter and more solid you make your wick the better the wicking. It started from the experiments of one of the forum members here but soon he had everyone on the forum convinced of this. So people would use 100mm or more of mesh to make a 2.5 mm diameter wicks that were stiff like nails. I never jumped on the 500 mesh bandwagon but I did make my wicks overly solid. When Kayfuns came around I stopped using gennies because Kayfuns not only were more convenient but vaped better.

After looking at this section.... I finally tried a loosely rolled wick in my modified Kraken couple of weeks ago. After using genesis atomizers for over 3 years I did it correctly....lol. I am now astounded how well genesis atomizer vape....they blow Kayfun/Orchid/Aqua/Squape type atties out of the water. They outperform my RDAs too.

Gennies IMHO still provide the most intense and flavorful vape experience out there.

I actually just rebuilt one of my iHybrid Pures tonight and posted the same thing in the iHybrid group. I had been vaping RDAs so long I completely forgot just how intense a gennie vape can be. My Cola Gummy DIY juice hit me like a friggin FREIGHT TRAIN tonight and I was stunned.

Think it's time to pull out my fleet of hybrid mods and wipe the dust off them. YOWZA!

I've been meaning to have a crack at Cola Gummy - mind sharing your recipe?

Indeed it's nice with some new interest and our own section!

I find it sort of strange. How there is so little talk about gennies - despite the fact that new ones are released fairly often. And many of the most sought-after high-end devices are gennies.

Is it simply that ... once you get your gennie on... you're "done" with your quest for the perfect vape? Roughly 99.9% of atties I see just make me go 'meh'.

Dig the new subsections. With the expanse of atomizer types it is needed.

As for geni's there is nothing better in my opinion when they are designed well. Like my kayfun but looooove my geni's
