I have a 600-700 pound chunk here I don't know how but I got it in my truck all by myself (I have a full sized dodge with a 4" lift) don't know what I'm gonna do with the rest of it

Are there different "characteristics" to different type of wood? I have gone through the options several times and narrowed it down to about a dozen or so. (I think) This being my first woodvil, I have no idea how different wood feels and perform differently.
