Adrian,
Throat hit is influenced by the atomizer (I get no TH from the 510), the voltage (3.7 vs 5-6V), the base (PG vs VG) and flavor of the e-liquid, and
most of all by the
nicotine level ... as well as the metabolism and addiction level of the individual.
Were you a smoker before beginning vaping?
- If you weren't: Officially, vaping is not intended for non-smokers. I wouldn't encourage anyone to become addicted to nicotine. However, since you have begun and seem to enjoy non-nicotine vaping: Welcome and I will offer good news in a moment.
- If you were: How much did you smoke and what type of cigarettes? For example, I was an UltraLite smoker and had gotten down to 15 cigarettes a day. 18mg is definitely too strong for me. I am comfortable at 11-12mg. You might be comfortable at 6-8mg or 0mg.
Whatever your background, go with the lowest level of nicotine that satisfies your cravings. If you have no nicotine cravings, stay at zero.
The good news: Zero nicotine e-liquid
is available! The following suppliers have a
large selection of non-nicotine e-liquid:
Vapor4Life,
Ms T's Bakery Essentials,
Cignot, and
Tasty Vapor. I'm sure there are others as well.
Tasty Vapor is the least expensive (120-ml bottles for $15), but I mention it last because I encourage you to start out buying several small (5-6 ml bottles) of various flavors to discover your favorites.
If you were a smoker and find that zero-nicotine is not satisfying cravings, you could also buy bottles at higher nicotine level in the same flavor and mix with your 0mg liquid. For example:
- Vapor4Life also sells their juice at 8mg. Mixing that with their 0mg juice in equal quantities yields 4mg.
- Tasty Vapor's 4-ounce "Doublers" actually are intended to be mixed with their 1-ounce (30 ml) high-nicotine "E-liquid." For example, 1 ounce of 24mg + 4 ounces of 0mg = 24 / 5 = 5 ounces of 4.8mg.
Put that 18mg juice to the side. [You might use it later to mix with your 0mg juice.] Vape only at 0mg ... unless and until you have nicotine cravings. Then try juice
a little bit higher.
Or do what I do: mainly vape at 0mg and use a higher level for your nicotine hits whenever you need them.
All the best!
P.S. For the record: I am angry

...
not at you, but at our high-nicotine crazy vaping community. If someone needs 26mg to stay off analogs, fine. But don't push it on others. This business of recommending 18mg (or higher) for new vapers,
regardless of their previous smoking level, is absurd ... and counter to our desire* for a safer, healthier alternative to analog cigarettes!

not claiming that vaping
is safe or healthy. I am neither an MD nor a biochemist, just a guy with beliefs.
