Winters in Florida are fantastic. It is always fun (in a sick way) to call old friends who live up north and talk the weather; usually when they are on their third snowstorm.

But, I will warn you, the heat index yesterday while I was working out in the yard was 113°!!! Make sure you stay hydrated!!!! I always carry a water bottle with me.

Lol! Cold and snow that is. I've been a little quiet the past month as we made a decision to leave the DC area and move a little farther South to Miramar, FL next weekend. After years of living in Alaska, Washington State, Missouri, TN and now NOVA, I'm ready for a little warmer winters and the opportunity to possibly wear flip flops and shorts in December and January. Vape bags are packed with my Reos and all of my NT juices (not trusting with the movers) and ready to go in the car for the long drive with my better half, and Elvis and Priscilla.

It's been a little stressful making the decision to make a major life change but thanks to Rob and Clark I'm almost 6 months analog free and even with the stress haven't had any thoughts of lighting up. I'll just have 4 Reos loaded up with NT with backup batteries and juice and vape my way down I-95. I may even post some pics along the way. Thanks to everyone on this and the Reo forum for helping me stay analog free and hope to meet some of you when we get settled.

Have a safe trip scoot!!

Or as I say about living in Arizona - "I've never had to shovel sunshine!" :)

I can't stand the cold, it's miserable for me. I'd gladly endure 100+ degrees all year 'round rather than having to deal with freezing temps, snow, ice, etc. People always think of Hell as a hot place; to me, Hell would be a constant 30 degrees with snow on the ground!

Congrats on the move, AND on staying smoke-free, VAScooter!

Fair enough, I've lived in the heat and humidity of the south, and I've lived in the arctic winters of the ADKs (if 30 is cold to you, don't even vacation here in the summertime, btw :) it can happen), but to me...I think of hell as a land without NT...(rhyme intended)

Yeah, a place without NT would be pretty hellish, now that you mention it! :)

I couldn't live in the South with all the humidity either - we're often in single digits here and almost always below 20% (except during the monsoon), so the heat isn't as oppressive. 100 degrees with 80+% humidity would be brutality on a grand scale!

I visited a friend in Elko, NV (way up in northeastern NV) one July and it seemed like a real nice place - temps in the low 90's, we hiked, spent a lot of time outdoors and I really liked the climate, lack of crowds/traffic, etc. Nice enough that I actually thought about moving there. Then we went back to visit the following January - snow on the ground and the temperature never got above 18 degrees (F) the entire time we were there. Eff that! Elko was immediately and permanently crossed off my list of potential places to live right then and there! :D

I've been to upstate New York once and it's an amazingly beautiful place - it was during the fall when all the trees were changing colors and it was just an incredible scene. I can see why people appreciate the beauty, but I just wouldn't be able to deal with the winters. We all have our own ideas of Nirvana (and thank God for that or else there would be umpteen million people screwing up the beautiful southwest desert for me!) :D

Amen on that! I think I'd enjoy your part of the country - plan to visit it sometime (we should have a vape!). I'm a weird one in that I can deal well with both heat and cold, but, the humidity is what gets me - so I bet the heat in your area would be nice to me. But I'll never go southeast again - I am a southern refugee, escaped mainly because of the politics but also the 98 degree 90% humidity days were driving me nuts in TN. I still wish I lived in VT instead of NY, but, this amazing job I landed isn't there :( plus I love the landscape here so it's all good.

One day I long to see the pacific NW...Oregon and Washington look really beautiful. So does Wyoming and Montana - man, even in this one country out of many there is so much to explore :)

PS - tons of red and yellow leaves here already! Bout to go hiking to soak it in :)

After living here I can handle any traffic and aggressive drivers. You learn quick to hold your own or be run over!

Watch out for Miami, Miramar isn't too far away. I learned to drive in NY, that was a day in the park compared to Miami. I think it's the law there that to make a left turn you have to be in the right lane and vice versa. I also believe if you buy a car in Miami, the horn is hardwired to stay on.

Welcome to the sunshine state!

It's all those New York drivers. They're always in such a hurry. :p Remember, almost everyone down here is from somewhere else.

We made it! Drove down the 2 cars with the pups last weekend and was pretty uneventful. The worst traffic was getting out of the DC metro area and West Palm. After spending 3 nights in hotel we started camping out in the house with an aero bed(not good!!) and a couple of lawn chairs. Thank goodness we get out furniture and household goods today!!!

Loving the area and to be honest the heat and humidity isn't much different than when we lived in Memphis. Now back to the grind!

I've lived in Ga all my life, but my job took me to snow country here and there for as much as 6 weeks at a time. I always stared out the cab window at the cars buried in the snow after a blizzard and was glad to be from GA. Living on the Fall Line in Ga means that we get a little snow most every year, but it's generally one time and under 3 inches!

Moving to Florida must be like getting a reprieve from the weather! You will love it once you acclimate. You can swap the heating bills for cooling bills! Buy lots of shorts and T-shirts for the summer and save the jeans and sweatshirts for the cool winters.
