Thanks for the tip, I have a number of cartomizers I'm planning to start with now.

For use with the 3.7 volt battery I plan on trying the following cartomizers.....

MadVapes 5102.0 Dual Coil Black Cartomizer (2.0 ohms +-2 ohm) DCC

510 Dual Coil Stainless Mega Cartomizer (1.6 ohms) DCC

Smok Tech 2.0 ohm 510 Cartomizers Single (2.0 ohms) SC

Dual Coil Clear Mega XL Cartomizer (1.6 +- 2ohms) DCC

I also plan on getting the shorty extension and the Maxi short stack in case I need them. Let me know if the above models will not work or fit with the Maxi Roughstack, and I'll be open to others that may work better.

For now I want to keep all my purchases at madvapes for my first order, otherwise i would have also considered the DCC you recomended for 6V use.

Also, a couple of the DCC I listed above have an ohms rating that is (+ or - 2 ohms). I'm assuming this means that the ohms rating on a 1.6 ohm +- device can work at 3.6 ohms?

For example take a look at the last link for the MadVapes Dual Coil Clear Mega XL Cartomizer 1.6. There was at least one person who reviewed that cartomizer who said it worked good with 6v devices.

If you think the +- DCC I listed would be smart to try out at 6v, let me know. I definitely don't want to fry my switch.

Thanks

Those are all fine cartos to be using at 3.7V, and should work just fine. The +/- rating just means that they're not all exactly 1.6ohms, and can vary by 0.1 ohm either way (i.e. 1.5 to 1.7ohms). Pretty well all atomizers and cartomizers are like this. It's just the nature of making these things, manufacturers can't always get the exact resistance their looking for, but it's generally within a tenth of an ohm.

None of those listed will work with 5 or 6V however. I mean, they will if the device can handle it, but it's an insane amount of power draw and a really hot vape that'll probably scorch the liquid anyway. So unless the DCC is meant for higher voltage use, don't use them at anything above, say, 4.1V (which is what I used them at on my ProVari).

dude... these things deliver nicotine.

If this we're all just about the hand motions I for one wouldn't have been able to quit analogs and the whole e-cigs cottage industry wouldn't have sprouted up.

Seriously, sucking out of flavored straws would be cheaper if we could.

Well I'm going to try a good vaporizer to find out for myself, and BTW I hope you and the majority here are right. I want you to be right, because these devices are saving lives and possibly mine if you are. Im just thinking that it's also a possibility that there is a placebo effect with these devices, In that they deliver a realistic smoking experience so acurately that the nicotine isn't needed to enjoy it.

Either way I have nothing bad to say about these devices at this point, I'm just not convinced they deliver nicotine based on some studies Ive read, I'm hoping im wrong.

I didn't see the question about Drip Tips get answered fully, so...my turn. :)

Drip tips are basically multi-purpose. Something like the tips on those little cigars you can buy. You're going to have this thing in your mouth quite a bit, and the round shape of a cartomizer/atomizer doesn't feel like a cigarette. Sure it's the same shape, but it's metal...sometimes they have a sort of covering over them, but...it's still metal wrapped in paper.

With a cartomizer, the drip tip on the end really has 2 functions. A: Different shape on your lips. B: Different colored tips can keep you from having surprise flavors. (What flavor was that? Oh crap, that's not root beer...)

The other thing, while I applaud your dedication to doing the research, I think you may be over thinking this a bit. If knowing every single detail about something is what keeps you hooked to it, then great. But, I've found that if I don't have more things to try/learn, I get bored of stuff. When I started, I grabbed a disposable from a gas station which lasted me a whole 8 hours. Then I got a few more of them and about 3 days later I made an order from one of the vendors on here, after doing some light reading. I'm constantly buying new things to try them, yadda yadda. Just make sure you don't talk yourself out of it. :)

Oh, and finding 1 vendor to get all your stuff from...not very likely. MV has a great selection of stuff, so I could see using them for everything...but... there isn't a Wal-mart in the e-cig world. We've got a bunch of specialty places, and a few places that carry other things...like the food section at your local hardware store. Sure, they've got baked beans, but it's only one brand, and it's the one with only a tiny piece of bacon in it.

Best of luck!

I have a feeling you're going to be pleasantly surprised. I NEVER intended to quit. As I said in your other post, I smoked 30 years and tried a zillion times to quit and couldn't. I thought I should at least not smoke near my mom who has seriously COPD issues and I got the pv for her.

She smoked 60 years and quit, and I did too. I still can't believe it. Seriously.

It doesn't work the same way as a cig. You don't get the initial nicotine hit you do with a cig- it's more gradual. If your craving a cig, and you vape, the craving will go away. Trust me. Once you get the right pv and the right juice (juice is a big one) you're going to be surprised. Even if you cut down it's a win. Just don't expect overnight results. I eventually didn't want cigarettes anymore and liked vaping more.

And I do need the nicotine. I started at a lower level and upped it. My mom needed 36 to get off cigs (that lasted about two weeks) and she's currently vaping 6 mg nic. I started with and continue with 24 nic. I used to have some 30 around but I lost my voice when I vaped it- it was a bit much for me.

They do work, and it's not placebo. Consider this:

1. Juices do contain nicotine (assuming you choose a juice with nicotine; they are available nic-free). Physical addiction fed.
2. They feed the hand-to-mouth, the ritual, the triggers that makes us want to smoke, and the throat hit, vapor and flavour are satisfying -- I daresay moreso than cigarettes (assuming good hardware, good carto/atty and good juice). Psychotropic addiction fed.

In other words, E-cigs deal with the whole addiction, not just the lesser physical addiction to nicotine itself. The psychotropic addiction is by far (really, really far) the harder part of the addiction to kick, and no other product deals with that. That's why smoking cessation products have such abysmal success rates, the whole lot of them, and why even going cold turkey people still go back to cigarettes six months, a year, two years later, even when there isn't an atom of nicotine in their system. They don't deal with the whole addiction. E-cigs do. It's why they work, and work exceptionally well for an exceptionally broad number of people.

Find the hardware, juices, and atties/cartos you like and you'll never want another cigarette again.

Here's the bottom line: If you want it to work, it will.

If you're going to spend your time worrying about getting nicotine, then it seems to me like you're trying to sabotage it. If you're hoping that it's going to be effortless to quit smoking and start vaping, then you're wrong. There is a bit of willpower required, you need to be able to say to yourself "No, I'm done smoking, and I'm going to do this instead."

You can ask just about anyone here, the switch wasn't like turning off a light. Your body somehow gets addicted to the tar and other chemicals in the cigarette too. To the point that it would be impossible for you to be able to say "Oh, that's the nicotine feeling." because you can't isolate it from the other 4000 chemicals.

Everybody is different though. Some of us were able to quit the second we picked up our first PV and took a puff. Some take a few days, a few weeks, even a few months to wean themselves off. It really depends on a number of factors:

1. Nicotine strength. Too low and the user may not feel like they are being satisfied and need extra nic from a cigarette.
2. Flavour. Might not be good enough to satisfy.
3. Vapor production. Some people need that visual stimulus to feel like it's working.
4. Fondness of cigarettes. Some people just like cigarettes and don't really want to quit, they just know they have to, so reluctance can hinder their attempts to do so.
5. Pressure and denial. Pressuring yourself to quit and denying yourself cigarettes can make it harder to do so, triggering the old "we want what we can't have" reaction.
6. Skepticism. People who really don't think they'll work can psych themselves into feeling that they aren't.
7. MAOIs. Most cigarettes contain monoamine oxidase inhibitors (antidepressants) that enhance the addictive qualities of tobacco. Some people are sensitive to this. E-juices do not have MAOIs and their absence can create a lack of satisfaction in the user and a persistent desire for cigarettes.
8. Anxiety. Some people are afraid to give up the cigarettes because they fear not having them in the same way we've all felt when we forgot our pack when we go out and suddenly launch into panic mode, especially if we can't get access to more quickly.

And there are probably other factors involved too. The best way to approach an E-cig is to just try it. See what it does. Don't hold any expectations or reservations, and don't pressure yourself into thinking they have to work or that you have to quit smoking right now. Try them out, see how they do for you. You might be pleasantly surprised -- and if it doesn't seem to do the trick there are any number of reasons that it didn't and just as many ways to make it work. You just have to identify what it is you feel you're missing and then find out what you need to fill that gap, and you can only do that -- and only you can do that -- by trying it out.

Check the poll section- I think ecigs have something like an 80% success rate and patches and things like that have about an 11% success rate.

Not factoring in for time, though, and depending on which study you're reading. There doesn't seem to be any clear consensus other than that NRT products have at terrible success rate that becomes even more terrible over time, and E-cigs don't.

That was part of my point, Mindfield. I was one of the "pick up a PV and quit" group. But there were still trials, there are still other habits you have to break. I had a pack of analogs next to me for a week as a "just in case" and I found myself reaching for them every now and again.

It's a trial-and-error type of thing. I don't really think it's possible to buy your first PV, with the right strength and mix of liquid and be completely content. You have to adjust them, thus...it's not effortless. That's all I was saying.

There are certainly enthusiast here that have me exited to try this.

Now that I have decided on most of my hardware, Id like to hear anymore opinions on E-liquid. I will take the advice here and try other sites after my first purchase at Madvapes, but for the time being i want to make my first order from Madvapes.

For nicotine strength I was planning on getting one 18mg bottle and one 24mg bottle, to go with my kit.

And based on one of dormous post, I have a rough understanding of PG and VG Ejuices.

Plus I found another description of them here....

E-Liquid | esmokeronline

If my understanding is correct, the liquids that have more VG in them are thicker and deliver more TH. The PG liquids produce less TH, but are far less likely to clog cartomizers.

I think what I want is a combination juice of 50/50 VG/PG, or a combination juice that has slightly less than 50% PG. A combination that will work with the cartomizes I'm getting, but also work well with the attys included with the Maxi Roughstack kit.

The E-liquid I've looked at the most at madvapes is this one...

Minthol 50/50 Vg/PG

I'm interested in menthol or tobacco flavors because they'll hopefully taste like cigarettes more than the others. I've also heard some great things about Coco flavored E-liquids. Any links to great tasting E-liquds at Madvapes Id really appreciate.

Also, how much do I need to worry about a 50/50 VG/PG juice making things difficult with my Cartos?

Once I actually vaped, I just thought, "Wow, I think I can do it with this". It was really a shock to me. I was doing RYO at the time and I still rolled a few and stuck them in a glass. If I wanted one, I had one.

Then I stopped having them rolled and ready and if I wanted one I had to make the effort to roll one which was a PITA. If I craved one, I'd say I'll have one tonight and usually forgot about it.

You have to put a little effort in, but one you know it's a possibility that this thing will work, it makes it easier. I also think sticking around the forum helps. The couple people I know that tried vaping and didn't post or read the forum sort of lost interest in vaping and stopped. I think the forum is a huge part of my success.

I think Minthol is a little on the sweet side. At least it was for me. If your looking for menthol- I love nhalers nuport. Love at first vape! His 555 menthol is a little more cigarettey but good. Another place for good menthol is Backwood Brew. My neighbors vape his Backo and Menthol.

My sister vapes Vapor Station juices exclusively. She loves their Tampa (she was a Marlboro smoker). I like their Creme Soda.

Edit: I vape nhalers PG which is perfect in cartos- not too thin. Some of my juice is 70pg/20vg. which works with most cartos.

Too thick will clog up cartos.

Been vaping for about 5 months. Finally ended up with a Maxi Roughstack V2. Awesome choice you just made.

Here's what I've learned since using it....

1) 2400 mah batteries 3.7 are awesome. Last all day and switch out in the morning. No problems.
2) At 3.7v, my sweet spot is between 1.7 and 2.0 cartos........ awesome vapor and TH. I had a bunch of cartos from earlier ecig purchases and one that metered out at 3 ohms wouldn't produce enough vapor to look at.......
3) Purchased regular cartos only......... I think the Mega versions of single and dual cartos won't fit the RS without an extender of some type because those carto tubes are 1 mm wider and hit the nut holding the switch down.

I've dropped my RS more times than I can remember and the thing fires right up........ unlike the Ego whose switch failed after first time I dropped........aarggggg.

I haven't tried 6 volts yet and maybe never will as long as this Maxi keeps hitting the way it is......

I love my maxi roughstack v2 I got it today and currently have an 18650 battery in it cuz thats all I have right now, (this is my first fat battery mod). I have tryed many PV's out there though and there is only one downside I can find on this PV (atleast for me) is the button, its not clicky :( I like clicky buttons and until MadVapes comes out with a new button theres no click on this PV's button but thats just my personal preferance. Great PV and I should have started with this instead of messing around with my joye 510.. Oh one more thing ITS ONLY $45.00 USD omg I thought I needed glasses but its true, about 20.00 bucks will get you an 18650 and charger, thats the route I went anyway. Happy Vaping!

As far as liquid goes, I have a small supply from MadVapes that I really like. (Quite a few flavors that I didn't care for too) One of my favorites is from MV, actually. Their Spearmint has a nice flavor, sort of like spearmint gum....except without chewing. :)

I also like their Root Beer, but the last batch of it that I got wasn't all that great, hoping the next order of root beer is better. Otherwise, my only non-sweet flavor is RY4 from AltSmoke's AltLiquid selection, that's my other all-day vape. The RY4 is a bit sweet, but there's enough non-sweet in there to make it good.

(I got an Oriental (Labled as RY4) from Vaporbomb, and it tastes a LOT like Green peppers to me.)

That's my two cents. For what it's worth, once you get your PV and start trying flavors and all of that, your taste buds will change a bit, and you'll end up on this never ending search for your favorite liquid.

Best of luck,

Thanks, I bookmarked the Spearmint and Rootbeer , I'll probably try one of those since they are available at madvapes. When I get low on my first batch I plan to find another website that has a better selection of E-liquid. Do you know of any other good sites?

About the battery charger, I started a thread not long ago asking about the best charger.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/mods/218120-best-battery-charger.html

Short version : The Pila charger seems to be considered the best one you can get, but it's rather expensive, roughly $45. The Ultrafire WF-188 isn't as nice, but is still a very decent charger, at about $15 each.

You mentioned using a roughstack and EMDCC's. I like the EMDCC's. I don't like the top button on a roughstack, because it wont' work with larger tanks like the liquinator.

To use an EMDCC on anything other than an ego or ego clone, you'll need an adapter. They are cheap, but without them, you can't do it. Most things designed specifically for an ego have two sets of threading. A standard (non ego) 510 connection only has one. The adapters are cheap - only a few bucks. Madvapes has them, as well as the EMDCC's.

Sometime this friday or saturday I plan to go ahead with my first PV purchase and I've decided on everything but the E-Liquid at this point.

The one big change I made was to abandon the Maxi Roughstack Kit, and go with the stand alone Maxi roughstack for 45 dollars. I also decided to set this device up with 3.7 V batteries and use cartomizers to start. I figure the attys and 6V batteries can wait, because I might end up being very happy with this setup.

Below is the current list of the equipment I plan to buy and prices, I cant let the total go over $130 for everything, so getting enough E-liquid to last me till next month might be tricky........

Maxi Roughstack V2
$45.00

AG-126 Lithium Ion Battery Charger
$7.99

RoughStack V2 Short Body
$15.00

TrustFire Protected 18650 Battery, 2400 mah $6.79

Protected 18650 Battery, 3000 mah $9.99

V2 510 Shorty Extension Sealed
$1.69

V2 510 Shorty Extension
$1.99

Shorty 510 Extension and Connector $6.99

MadVapes 5102.0 Dual Coil Black Cartomizer (2.0ohm) $2.00 X2

510 Dual Coil Stainless Mega Cartomizer (1.6ohm) $2.49 X2

Smok Tech 2.0 ohm 510 Cartomizers Single (2.0ohm) $1.59 x2

Dual Coil Clear Mega XL Cartomizer (1.6ohm)x2 $2.49 x2

Total 110.09

Again if I'm missing something, or if anything here is not compatible please let me know. Those are the same cartomizers I listed before, but I decided to get two of each for a total of 8. I also wasn't too sure if if need the 3 different shorty extensions or RoughStack-V2-Short-Body for my cartomizers but I got them just in case, and I might need them down the road.

All that's left is to make some final decisions on E-Liquid

I've looked at the following flavors based on some tips.....

Minthol
Dekang USA Mix
Spearmint
Root Beer

Three of these are menthol or mint, so any ideas on some other good flavors from madvapes would be good to have. I heard coca is very good, but my eyes went soar looking for that.

Lastly, my plan is to get 3 different 10ml bottles, to make 30ml total. I don't know exactly how long this will last me though. everything I get will have to last me until early next month when I can afford more liquid and cartos. Im thinking I'll be a light to moderate vaper to start, until I stop smoking the analogs entirely.

However I think the dual coil cartos burn more fluid. Any ideas on how long 30ml will last? What about the 8 cartos I'm getting?

Thanks in advancce,

Mike
