It's all personal esthetic preference, and ergonomics.
How does it feel stripped bare? Not good, then cover it up.
How does it look? Not good, then cover it up.
Damn, I cover myself up for both reasons. LOL. Not.
I'm reminded of a black Provari which someone (speak up now, whoever you were) then sanded down so that the body was metallic but the incised tear drops remained black. What a beauty.

I like minimalism esthetically. But, I can see how others might like the glitztier. It's all good.

I remember that black Provari.

My Jac looked pretty grubby when I first took the paint off, but after some polishing it's starting to look kind of nice. Think I'll just take my time deciding.

Does anyone know what metal the body of the Jac is made of?

I dropped mine a while ago and it landed on the back side of the base. There were some small gouges in the metal and it really looked like what I would expect in something soft, maybe aluminum. And where I took the paint off it was a dull grey color, sort of like gunmetal. But the side where I've been polishing with wire wool looks more and more like SS. It's hard as well. It takes a major amount of rubbing to take out the tiny machining marks. Wondering if the dull grey color was some kind of pre-paint treatment.

Couldn't find any mention on their website about what kind of metal it is.

Where I got it polished up it looks kind of cool. Has anyone ever dismantled one? It would make polishing a lot easier if I could get the metal parts removed from the innards, but that's a scary deal. I stripped down an old sigelei SS tube mod once just for curiosity after it self destructed and I don't think I could have got it back together. There was glued parts and all sorts.

By the looks of it before and after polishing, I'd guess its base metal/zinc. I had a similar paint problem on the doors of my RX75 and they polished up well but turned a darker gray within a few days of handling it. I like the industrial tool look it gives on that mod but it's not pretty by current mod standards.

I'll let you know what happens. I was expecting it to grey up again since places where the paint came off a while back were a different color to the freshly stripped areas. On the other hand I was surprised by how hard the metal is. I would expect zinc or nickel to be easier to rub out, though I'm not a metal guru. Anyway I've been using it for a day since I polished the first side with no color change so far. I'll leave it be for a few days and see what happens.

Come to think of it maybe I'll email them and ask.

Ok, ready now. ;)

NY, did you really forget me so kwickly?

Hmm, don't we know someone who likes glitztier? :D

:?:

I should have guessed.

:D

Ok, so allow me to reintroduce Spot. He's a valiant little sweetie and born in the year V2 Mini.

Brief writeup about what they're up to. :thumb:

Scots vaping firm invests six-figure sum

"A Leith-based designer of vaping products and e-cigarettes has invested more than £250,000 this year on boosting its product line-up. The latest additions have been designed in-house by JAC Vapour’s research and development team, led by founding partner Andy Logan."

"Two e-cigarettes and eight e-liquid products have been added to the product range with two more hardware devices scheduled for release before the end of the year. JAC Vapour was established in 2010 by Logan, the firm’s chief design officer, and now has tens of thousands of regular customers, with about 80 per cent of its business coming from the UK. The firm is also at the forefront of shaping vaping legislation."

"Neil McCallum said: “2018 has been a huge year of investment and development for us. This £250,000 spend shows our commitment to our R&D team in Edinburgh. “Their continued attention to detail and design means they never stop coming up with new ideas to change the e-cigarette market. “These new products will be primarily for the UK and Europe, but could be expanded into the US in 2019. We are also currently developing unique products for the German and French markets for launch in late 2018 early 2019.” He added: “We use our e-cigarettes every day, so we design products that we know our customers want to use. We hope the VIM range will change the way people look at e-cigarettes.”

Excellent words to live by.

I put a Vapor Skinz wrap on my black JAC. The faux leather, pebble-grain. I switch between both my Sandstorm and black JAC, but I have to admit I reach for the black pebble-grain JAC more often than not. I love the textured surface.

I love the look of Kat's "battle worn" Mini Provari.

And let us have a pic when you've decided, before you cover it up, if you decide to do that.

More work on my Jac. Tried to polish it with a felt wheel on the Dremel. The felt suddenly fell off and I gouged a groove on the side of the mod with the metal piece the felt was attached to. That got me into a furious rage and I attacked it with 600 emory paper. Took an hour but I got the gouge out and also all the machining marks. Then I went over it with 1200 and 2000, and finished off with rubbing compound and 4/0 synthetic wool.

In the end I got one side mostly down to a smooth mirror finish. Thought I had killed the mod. It read my coil as .3 ohms instead of .9 but it turned out to be a bit of rubbing compound in the 510 and it was fine after a good cleaning.

For some reason the paint on the bottom and top is extra thick and doesn't want to come off so I haven't done that yet.

I looks nice now, except for being a fingerprint magnet and rather slippery. I'll wait a couple of weeks and see if the metal stays shiny. Pretty much convinced it is SS though. I've got a red wrap in the mail and I think it would look good in red. See what happens.

Hard to get a good pic because it's so shiny.

Can't tell for sure but it looks like Zinc

Could be. That's what I thought originally based on the grey tarnish. I had some old nickel plated bits on a bike once and the way it looks now reminds me of that.
