The notch coil on my Cubis Pro Tank is working perfectly. I'm using it on a Cuboid in TC SS316 mode set at 460 and 45watts. If I vape it with the airflow wide open it spits. I closed the airflow slightly and it vapes perfectly. No spitting or flooding. I have refilled it several times and the new top fill cap does prevent the coil from flooding.

I did have to play with the settings to get the vape and performance I wanted, but now it vapes great. I'm very impressed with the Joyetech Cubis Pro tank. Big improvement over the previous version.

Thank you for this. It seems to work well for me at 430F and 42.5w with the 0.25 notch coil in the Cubis Pro. Now I can make use of the 3 boxes of coils I bought. Once those are gone I think I will just stick with the 0.5 (28.5w @ 500F) going forward. It produces good vapor and decent flavor (not as much as the notch) but the battery/juice consumption is significantly less which makes it the better choice for me in either tank at this point, assuming I get decent/similar life out of each coil (yet to be determined).

I just discovered a new trick in the reviews of this tank at myvaporstore.

This tank performs flawlessly in my opinion, yes, there is a slight "flooding" issue when you refill the tank, but i believe that is due to the way the tank works with air pressure and all. I have developed the habit of flipping it upside down and firing it until it shoots out the nice little stream of vapor every time i refill it, after that it has no gurgling or spitting.

If you have a problem with burnt or dry hits i have discovered that it usually means the top cap that holds the coil has been screwed on to tight, try loosening the cap and it should correct the issue.

The upside down fire thing works great for me on the 0.25 and 0.5 coils so far. I take 5 or 10 no fire draws first out of habit, then a quick upside down fire, and then all good with no spitting. I haven't tried it on a freshly changed/primed coil but I assume it should work then as well. Hopefully (I assume it will, but not sure I have tried yet) it works with the older model Cubis tanks as well since I have 3 of those.

I haven't had issues with burnt/dry hits running in TC mode, only in VW mode on the first coils before I learned how to properly use TC mode.

I am loving these tanks now other than the crazy juice/battery drain with the 0.25's.

Hey guys. So I got an Egrip 2 not that long ago and then about a week ago I dropped it in the pool and now the screen doesn't work so I have no idea what mode I have it set on or what the wattage or temperature is. But prior to that screw up, I was using the Notch coil in temperature mode with it and I had really grown to like it. It was crappy at first for me, but eventually it started to hit pretty nice and I was amazed at how long the coil lasted. It's starting to burn now but it's possible my device is set in the wrong mode and it's screwing up the coil.

Anyways, I thought I would pick up one of these Cubis tanks since I have a box of the BF Clapton coils and also get some additional Notch coils. I don't own any of the Cubis tanks unless you count the one in the Ego AIO and Egrip 2 so I don't know how they perform, but upon looking into the Cubis Pro, I noticed that there are all these other new types of coils like the QCS and LVC. Now I am confused in which one to try or get more of. I only vape MTL so I would like something more suited for that. I thought the Notch coils were pretty nice, not sure if they are the best, but wondering if I should pick up some of the other coil types?

The LVC head is for MTL and the QCS (and Notch) is for DL. The official JT site has a good image of the more popular/original heads as to what they are best suited for:

FggOny3.png

I have only used a couple 1.5's but have a few boxes here. They are a good MTL hit but I am not sure how well they last as I had one burn up early IIRC, and the other(s) I use I ended up swapping out for DL coils. I used 1 or 2 of the 1.0 and had similar issues where they seemed to not last as long as I had hoped but I was using them in VW mode so perhaps they would be better in TC. Everything I have read is that the 0.6 is the best of for MTL and decent for DL and can be used in VW or TC mode. I love the vapor/flavor production, and life of, the noth but didn't care for the crazy amount of juice/battery they use so all but one of my tanks (3 x cubis, 2 x cubis pro) all have 0.5's in them now. The one without a 0.5 has a notch in it.

I've had a Cubis Pro for 2 weeks now, works great w/std Notch coil, but there's a LONG story to it.

I examined and studied it closely before putting it to use.

The redesign top-fill does NOTHING to fix the flood-on-refill issue. If anything, it makes it more prone to flooding, and makes it harder to prevent by DIY methods.

Pros: more airflow, 0.5 ml more juice (insignificant IMO)

Cons: still floods-on-refill, smaller fill area - harder to refill, more complicated - 2x the o-rings, harder to clean.

Background - I had been using a std. Notch coil (5-pack) in my Cubis/Cuboid for a week (was working great at 45w/400ºF) when the Cubis Pro arrived (got it and an iStick Pico together).

The Cubis Pro came with 4 coils: 0.5 SS, 0.25 Notch, QCS Notch and LVC Clapton. I chose to start with the QCS Notch, and compare to the Cubis/Notch as reference.

The QCS coil is very easy to prime: take bottom cap off exposing the wick, drip juice until wick is saturated, put cap back on!

Installed on the Pico at same 45w/400º, coil registered at 0.27 ohms and locked in.

Took a hit and blah, nothing, barely a wisp of vapor. Letting it sit and soak did nothing to improve it. Cranking the wattage & temperature up helped some, but still poor unsatisfying vapor.

So on a lark I used the TCR settings. It got better at higher TCR values, finally settled in good at 150 TCR! Reduced the wattage & temp back down to 45/400º, and it was almost identical to the Cubis/Notch. Lots of vapor, great taste, very satisfying hit!

But it was notably different: it NEVER spit or crackled! just gave an uniform sizzling sound.

At this point I presumed that the QCS was a completely different creature than the std. Notch coil, but I was very happy so continued with it.

But then another issue crept in: every hour or two it would begin to make a "slurping" sound, and vapor production would drop off. Flooding I thought? But no, on the QCS coil you can see right down the chimney to the gold-plated bottom contact plate - there was NO free liquid inside the coil!

Flinging it with a tissue wrapped around the top would produce big wet patches, but it was NOT coming out the drip-tip, it was coming out the AIR VENTS! It would vape good again for another hour or two, then repeat.

I suspected condensation, so when the tank got low and began slurping again, I took it apart. Sure enough, the recess in the top of the coil was full of liquid, in the path of intake air, while the bottom of the coil was dry.

The std Notch coil has a screen on top, so any excess liquid can flow back through it into the wick, but the QCS coil has a solid metal ring, so liquid CANNOT flow back into the wick.

And since the condensation liquid forms around the periphery of the metal ring, when you fling it, it goes up the outer airflow chimney! Poor coil design.

I get the feeling Joyetech is just "flinging" ideas against a wall to see what sticks, then going right to production without any testing, and we're the guinea pigs.

I was fairly disappointed, but since it was working good in-between "flings", I continued with it ... until day 5 (good news - it NEVER flooded just from sitting over night).

On morning of the 5th day, my usual routine, got a cup of coffee, sat down at the computer, took a big hit - very good, got my nic fix in. Over the next 10-15 minutes got 3-4 more good hits, then BOOM, MASSIVE burnt taste!

Letting it sit for a while, and even loosening the top to "promote" flow into the coil, further hits still had the burnt taste.

Disgusted at this point, I pulled it out and replaced it with the std. Notch coil that came bundled with the Cubis Pro.

I set the Pico back to the default SS316 mode at 45w/400º, and it was PERFECT! Just like the notch coil in the Cubis. Go figure. I'm presuming (but don't know) the QCS coil has a different metallurgy coil, or is just a bad design.

Something to note: the Notch coil that came w/the Cubis Pro has a MUCH finer spit screen than the Notch coils in the 5-pack I bought. An improvement, but Joyetech must still be "experimenting".

7 days now, and while it makes the spit crack sound first few hits in the morning, it has NEVER actually spit anything out into my mouth!

7 refills now, and NEVER flooded - because I've devised my own rube-goldberg "cure": plug the drip-tip & airflow holes while filling, then quickly remove the plugs & screw on the cap.

Thanks for the write up. I haven't hit a notch coil in a day or two (have one in my black pro) but have been fairly pleased with the 0.5 coils in TC mode and using them lately in the regular cubis tanks. They are about due for a refill so I will be switching back to the 2 x pro tanks (one has notch and one has 0.5) to revisit them. Check my write up and quote in post #23 as this works very good for me - Joyetech Cubis Pro

cliff notes when refilling (or after priming a new coil): put cap on, take about 10 quick one second puffs with wide open air, turn it upside down and fire until you get a wisp of vapor, turn over and vape and no spitting or flooding for me. This works in the regular cubis and cubis pro tanks, with the 0.5 and 0.25 notch coils for me.

I also get the impression Joyetech is just pumping out all sorts of coils that they know people will buy regardless if its optimal or not. I certainly don't want to spend the money to buy all sorts of mediocre/inconsistent coils just to test them out. I may just get the tank and try out all the coils for myself but I also want to pick some up with the tank so I don't have to pay for shipping again. I am new to temp control so I'm still fiddling with my settings. Never tried TCR mode but I see it on my device. But should I even consider getting this tank or should I look at something else?

Kinda' depends on what type of vaper you are @Kyi ...

From reviews I've seen elsewhere...

High Ω, Low Wattage MTL vapers ("Tootle Puffers")...seem to like the Cubis Pro...

Low Ω, High Wattage DL vapers ("Cloud Chasers")...seem to dislike the Cubis Pro...

[But...as always...YMMV...]

I ordered a Cubis Pro, should be here in a few days. Not sure which coil to try first. I'm interested in learning how to use the TCR mode. It's on my Wismec Presa but I never messed with it before. The original Notch coil that came with my Egrip is still working great, I'm honestly surprised the taste hasn't really faded much. Must be the temp control keeping it in good shape? I never really messed with temp control much before.

temp control def seems to make the coils last longer compared to the first few coils I used in wattage mode. I really like the 0.5 ohm coils in temp mode for a best of both worlds thing. Decent flavor and vapor and the juice/batteries don't get ate up uber fast.

I have a few boxes of notch coils, 2 boxes of 0.2 ni200 I haven't tried yet, a couple boxes of 1.5 MTL that won't be getting much use any time soon, and another 5 boxes of 0.5 that will be here tomorrow. I also have 2 QCS coils that came with my tank to try but I went ahead an ordered 5 more regardless and 5 of the RBA for the regular cubis tank.

Regarding TCR mode I haven't tried to it yet as I tried to understand it and find proper values to use and got lost on the intertubes so I gave up. If you figure it out please post values in here.

Does it seem to you guys that the Notch coil requires some breaking in? I remember when I first put one in my Egrip 2, it was spitting like crazy and giving me harsh hits. I didn't like it but I kept using it since I was too lazy to change out the coil. It eventually started hitting pretty good and has been ever since. I also got my Cubis today and using the Notch in it in TC mode. It's hitting ok but I feel like I need to break it in more. It's spitting a little but not too bad. Between the QCS and LVS, which do people like better?

I have not tried the QCS (maybe tomorrow) or the LVC coils yet. The notch coil is a finicky head that requires a pretty specific set of steps to stop from spitting, in either cubis tank. I have mentioned it earlier in the thread and linked/quoted where I found the steps:

Any time I prime and put a new one in, or refill the tank:
- reduce the air flow control a bit (1 - 2 notches in pro, about equivalent 1/4 closed in cubis)
- turn it upside down briefly then back right side up
- take about 10 no fire draws on it
- turn it upside down (over paper towel as it may spit some liquid) and fire it until u get a wisp of vapor
- turn it back over and take a few (2 - 5) short 1 - 2 second hits to be sure it wont spit before you commit to a proper draw.

This works in both cubs and cubis pro tanks for me. Ideal (for me) temp range can change dramatically depending on the coil and tank (cubis or pro) I am using. The notch requires lower temps in both tanks, but especially in the pro tank. The notch coil gives better flavor and slightly better vapor production but at this point I prefer the 0.5 heads.

Eager to try the QCS and RBA heads I bought sometime soon. Not sure when I will get around to trying the LCV MTL head.

I am vaping the same ry2k juice right now in the cubis pro with 0.5 in TC mode and in the subtank mini in VW mode and the flavor is a bit better in the kanger but both give great vapor production.

Been using the Cubis PRO for about 2 weeks now...

Used the Spinfuel alternative method of priming the heads (link 3 posts above)...

Getting a GREAT MTL vape with the BF Clapton-1.5Ω heads, 1st hole on AFC and 10-12Watts...:headbang:

Joyetech certainly seems to have eliminated all the flooding/gurgling/spit-back problems with the original Cubis...(the screwable Top Cap allows the head to remain submerged in the tank during re-filling)...

I tried one of the 0.25 ohm QCS coils the other day.... awful spit back and none of the tricks I do for the 0.25 notch coil would stop it. Ended up pulling it out after a day and dropped one of the 0.5 coils in. I prefer the flavor/vapor from the notch coils but my cubis/pro tanks are just for traveling so I prefer the better battery life and lower juice consumption in those higher ohm coils when out of the house.
