Yup, .6 ohm coil. I guess I'll go in and try to get a refund...0.6 ohm coil?
I use 50/50 in everything, have since I started vaping. Works great for me. The only problem I have ever had is on really hot days it can get thin and leak on some tanks.Do you use 50/50 in all of your tanks or just in the penguin? If you just use 50/50, how does it do?
Once last thought.Hello, I'm new to vaping and I'm having problems with my Penguin... I got it a week ago and I've already blown like 5 coils... I chain vape alot and after a single day, it get dry hits. I don't understand why this happens... I use the .6 coils and my juice is 50% VG... It did it also with 30% VG juice. It's like after a day of vaping, the coil gets blocked and it's really hard for me to take a draw and boom, I get a dry hit...
I see people on here who's coils last for like 11 days, even a guy his wife's coil lasted nearly a month, and here I am having to change the coil everyday... I know it isn't the juice because it didn't do that to my Joyetech AIO...
I'm really lost and worried that I'm going to have to shell out another 40 bucks for an AIO if I can't figure this thing out... Thank you in advance!
Once last thought.
The fact that you say that it happens "after a day" is what led me down this road of thought. That tells me it is working ok at first, then degrading.
You chain vape all day. No judgement, it takes what it takes to stay off the stinkies.
The consequences of this are:
You mentioned being new. One thing about vaping is that we vapers will naturally "self-titrate". In other words, if we "crave" more nic we will hit more often, if we are satiated we will hit less often. And we will do this automatically and unconsciously.
- You are going through a lot of hits, consequently a lot of juice. How many ml a day are you vaping?
- Chain hits 2,3, and subsequent are hotter (hotter juices can caramelize/polymerize (gunk) more/thicker on the coil)
- Depending on what juice you are using, especially if it has sweetener in it, the juice will gunk up the coil. Darker colored juices, and bannana flavors, among others, tend to gunk up quicker. Could you be going through enough juice to gunk the coil in a day? If your juice is a coil gunker, hitting less often would let the coil last longer. What kind of juice are you using.
What mg nic level are you using?
It is not at all uncommon to start with a higher nic level when you first quit, just to satisfy the cravings. Many start at 24mg or higher. The Juul Pod Mod for example is 50mg. Anyway, if you up your nic level, you will hit less often, possibly eliminating the craving to chain vape.
I started out on and still vape 36mg, and have for 4 years now, but as time goes on I find myself using less and less ejuice per day.
That GREATLY depends on the juice you are running. Certain flavorings, most any sweetener, certain additives like citric acid, saline, etc, all contribute to gunking up the coil and wick. I know of one member here @Mowgli who only gets a tank or two per coil on one of his juices. He runs some banana ape bait snit juice or something. One more question, on average, how long do the coils last? I'm not talking time but ml's. I'm begining to think that I expected them to last longer and I'm using them too long. I just put a new .6 in and so far it's working like a champ. The one I tossed I couldn't even see through.
On your next bad coil, take it apart. The two caps at either end of the coil will fold down at the electrical contact. Then you can push the coil out through the air channel side. try to keep it whole.I don't think that the way I vape would be considered chain vaping. For example, I would take a couple hits every 5-10 minutes. I thought that this could also be an issue, so I decided to lay off the vaping a little yesterday. I took maybe 40 draws and still, at the end of the day I was getting dry hits, even with blocking the airway 50% and blocking it completely and taking a puff after each 2-3 draws.
I am not currently vaping to quit smoking (I quit some years ago), I'm at maybe 2 mg and can go days without it, I just enjoy it hence why I continue. I also do not feel like my juice is very thick although it is very sweet, so maybe that has something to do with it, but it isn't that much thicker than water and also pretty clear. I tried mixing in maybe 20% water yesterday and still after a single day of maybe 40-50 draws, I was still getting dry hits, so I doubt the problem is with my juice. That sucks, because it would be such an easy fix ahah...BTW I'm going through about 3-5 ml before it becomes an issue.
I bought another 3 coils of .25 ohm from another box as a final try so maybe I previously got a bad batch and this one will work. I really don't get why it works for some and doesn't seem to work for others.
Thanks for all the advice.
I vape unflavored about 20% of the time, never thought of using it in the penguin only. Thanks for the tip. That GREATLY depends on the juice you are running. This is the main reason I use unflavored on cartridge style coils. I have cartridges that have lasted months. I only run flavored juices on my rebuildable coils.
So the answer is anywhere from 10ml to 200ml+ depending on the juice ingredients, and the spacing of the coils, and the temp etc..
It is definitely a roll of cotton akin to paper. Fairly firm, and paper like. Strong too, didnt tear when I pulled on it.Im sad to hear that others are having all those dry hit issues. That's so odd when I have been enjoying these 3 coils now for a long time , nice smooth hits , no gurgling or popping just smooth draw with oodles of vapor.
I looked on the coil box to see if there were any serial #'s or manufacturer date , saw none. Possibly bad batch of coils went out? And we all could reference a date from that.
If I'm not mistaken these cotton wicks are thinly pressed plys of cotton ? I vision something like a roll of toilet paper on it's side? As opposed to a ball of cotton which has many more natural portals of flow and directions to take.
And if so it's possible that during manufacturing some of the plys are just wrapped too tightly , and if that last ply gets scorched nothing gets thru.
Another thing I thought of is that when I poked mine with a pin , I did so at angles also , not just straight down , I did so at about a 45 degree angle thru the juice inlet throat. I'm just throwing thoughts out there. Something ain't right when certain coils are working so nicely and others not.
.6 coil i'm running 50/50 juice and both .25 coils using 70/30
I did what you said and popped a old coil out I had from the beginning. And yeh it was burnt around the element like ashes . They just flaked off. Like you said , just can't revive from a burn like that on these coils. It almost looks like though you could run a .177 caliber gun cleaning brush thru it and flush that burnt ply out of thereIt is definitely a roll of cotton akin to paper. Fairly firm, and paper like. Strong too, didnt tear when I pulled on it.
Probably machine wound around the coil, perhaps the machine tension varied from batch to bath.
On your next bad coil, take it apart. The two caps at either end of the coil will fold down at the electrical contact. Then you can push the coil out through the air channel side. try to keep it whole.
Then unroll the cotton from the coil and take a pic if you can. That will give us an idea of the sludge factor vs "burn" factor.
Try to do it when the hit gets weak, BEFORE you get a dry hit.
If it is burning because it is dry you will see burnt cotton but not a lot of sludge. If you see a lot of sludge, like thick coatings of it on the coil, then it is your juice.
"Very sweet" is a known sludge builder.
