I have been reading up on e-cigs and am ready to buy. There are so many out there. I have sort of settled on the eGo or Riva. My concern with the eGo is the flat tip. The Riva 910 looks like it is round, Is that right? Are the two comparable batterywise? Sorry, don't remember the number on the eGo, but it is the one with the big battery.

I am a 1- 2 pack a day smoker and have smoked for more than 30 years. Menthol. Thought about getting both the 510 Joye and the eGo, but the short battery life would bug me. I have also looked at the Lux. I will get 2 if it wil better my chances of being successful. I want something I can add to rather than replace (drip tip and the like). Would like one to plug into the car cig lighter as I tend to chain smoke in the car.

Also have pg and vg questions. Do all models handle both? Is one type better for vg? read a warning somewhere about vg not working with the eGo????

Guess that is more than enough questions for one post. I tend to be a "little" obcessive. LOL

It's two different atomizers. I would say 901 is probably an airier softer vape than Ego/Riva-510. The batteries may be a different gender since 510 batteries are female and 901 batteries are male threads. I don't know if the voltage and of the two are the same.

I believe both have round tip and flat tip cartridges available. After a while I think few people use carts and atty anyway and instead use a drip tip and drip on the atty, and/or use cartomizers, or if 510-model buy a tank atty and use tanks.

Listen to someone else though since I own neither. But I have used both 510 and used 901 attys on a KR808D-1

Get the genuine joye ego, they are more reliable in my opinion. After two days I switched to a low resistance 510 atty on my ego with a 510 drip tip and could not go back to carts. Even when I go out I still drip. Everyone is different though. By the way you can buy flat or round carts etc so don't be to concerned with what comes in the starter kit.

I have been vaping for the past seven months and have spent a lot of money buying starter kits and battery mods and different atomizers. If I was just starting vaping now, I would buy the Joy-ego system with the 1000mah batteries. For a one piece battery, it lasts a long time and stays pretty consistent. I cant recommend the tank system YET, I am waiting for the first one I just ordered in the mail, but I am hoping it will take the hassle out of vaping like a lot of people are saying.
The ego comes with the 510 atomizer (or tank). I have tried the dse801, joy510, dse901, V4Lcartomizer, 510cartomizer. All of them aren't perfect and kinda a hassle, but worth doing instead of smoking. I don't use the dse801 or 510cartomizer anymore.
I would buy the ego 1000mah tank first, then you can always get the 510 atomizer and use it directly on the ego battery, and all it takes to use the dse901 and V4Lcartomizer on the same battery is to buy an 901 adapter. The 901 and 510 don't work very well with the (liquid retaining) filler in the cart-tip(flat or round, it comes in both). The best filler is the blue foam, but you can use the tea bag mod, look them up here.
The best atomizer is the 901, it has a sweeter taste and thicker vaper and works the best on standard batteries and even better on a vv mod up to 4.5 volts. The 510 works good also, but is more like med to light cigarette, unless you use it on a 5 volt pass-through, or on a vv mod from 4v to 5v. The 901 starts to burn liquid above 4.5 volts. The V4Lcartomizer is like a light to ultra light cigarette on standard batteries, pretty good on a higher voltage, but doesn't taste as good as the other attys.
I've tried the different ratios of e-juice, but I have stuck with 80/20% and see no reason to change. Tasty Vapor is the best e-juice for complex blends of flavors, Vapor 4 life, MadVapes have all the standard flavors and are pretty good.

Don't be concerned. You can get round cartridges for the 510 series, and this is a most trivial expense, sub $1/unit, and you might be able to transfer the tips on the cartridges. The Riva 510 is a good deal cheaper, as is the 910.

I'd lean toward getting a 1000mAh Riva, or 900mAh Ego, or 1100mAh Riva simply because this represents less recharge cycles, thus longer life. The difference is roughly equal to 4x small 510 batteries vs 5x to 6x. But whether you go 650mah or 1100mah you'll be good to go for at least a year depending on use.

I just bought the Joy 510 and it came with the round tips. I ordered 5 each of the round and flat carts not really wanting to use the flat carts but why not try them. I work Mid shift and I have found that I like the flat tips better then the round. Working at night going outside to vape in the dark I can feel the flat tip and know which end to put in my mouth, and the sometimes when I stick my pv in my mouth and do something with boths hands the flat tips makes it easier to hold in my teeth.

When I ordered my first PV (a 510) it came with the flat tips. I didn't think I would like them, and was happy to have the cartomizers that were round. BUT - after using it, I also found I prefer the flat tips. I do the same thing - hold it in my teeth if I need my hands. Since I'm in a wheelchair, I find that it comes in handy to be able to hold it between my teeth. Not that I can't do it with the round tips, but it's easier with the flat ones. Also as JC mentioned, it makes it easy to identify the correct end when you can't look - this is also handy when driving, especially driving at night (unless you use a PT in the car, in which case, it's pretty obvious since there is a wire coming from one end).

If you smoke that many cigs a day, you should save yourself some money and get a riva 510 SE from Liberty-flights.com

The Riva is a copy of the eGo. Some people wil tell you that it's better than an eGo. That Riva kit is a great deal and it's what I recommend. I just ordered one for my sister in-law.
