Imeo but you said we remove the plastic if we don't want to use the spring. But now you are saying even if plastic is on, the small part that is pushed is always in contact with the axis. I'm confused. I guess I have to wait for the actual thing to observe it better.
aal, if you see my first video about justGG, you will see that I said that this spring loaded application doesnt depend only on spring to let current pass, because the moving part almost always touch the axis. But this connection still depends most on spring to carry current. But if you remove the axis cover, then the battery totally sits on axis so current depends only on the axis-battery connection.

If you remove the plastic, then the ring at the base of the spring pin will also be a ground. You would just tighten it all the way down. Seems to me that you could omit the pin altogether in this case.
If the pin is always in contact with its housing, then the spring isn't really going to carry current, so I suspect that it's not going to pop even if there is a short...
