I have a magma also, and want a 1.5 coil. I am using a provari. I have 28, 29, and 30 ga wire. Can you suggest which one to use and how many wraps? And 1/16 or 5/64" drill bit?

With a micro coil 6 or 7 wraps 30ga and 9 or 10 wraps 28ga on a 5/64" bit should get you there. There's a page floating around somewhere with different builds/ohms but I cant find it at the moment. I just chart my own as I make them and use that for reference.

I meant I need to rebuild the magma because when I built it I went 2.1ohms and the lag time is way to much so I'm going to rebuild it with a 1.7ohm coil like my kayfun.

I go from about 9 watts to 15, sometimes 15 watts hits to dry on the kayfun not sure why.

What wattage are you using? I have the Vamo v5 and the Magma, I use 28 gauge and do about 8 3mm wraps which comes out to ~1.8 and it does fine from 8-15 watts (prefer 15w). Gapped coils or nice and tight, doesn't matter. I am using the Artistic Wire Coiling Gizmo to wrap my coils BTW...

So far I'm very impressed with the 2nd coil I've ever made which I put into my Kayfun Lite Plus. I took some tips I found online some pointers from here and some tips from videos and I think I got the hang of it.

Like I said I my first attempt at coil wrapping which is in my magma didn't turn out to great it ended up being 2.1ohms micro coil with 28 gauge wrapped on a 1/8th drill bit. I had to use quite a few wraps. Which made the lag way to much and its not hitting very hard I guess because the Vamos wat/volt limitations.

My second attempt at building a coil though is much better. I built a 1.7ohm micro coil with my 28 gauge on a 1/8th drill bit. This coil ended up being much tighter and pretty much almost perfect as far as the coils actual wraps. It hits great in my Kayfun and fires way faster than the coil I made for my Magma. I do get some dry-ish hits in the kayfun tho with i put my watts over like 13. I think I used to much cotton but I'm not sure. The flavor from the kayfun is amazing though, its actually much better than the magma which must be because of the better coil I made for it.

Now I would like to get a new mod though liek I said my Vamo is really really beat up and in poor condition. I just can't afford anything atm though. I'm not sure if I want to get a mech mod and just build coils to the batteries amp draw limitations or if I want the IPV2 50w Box mod. The only thing I don't like about the box mod is that it seems like its a pain to replace the battery. I know you can charge the battery in the device but you can't use it while charging I don't think. I just got new batteries though because the ones I had I was charging multiple times a day. SO maybe with these new ones I wouldn't have to charge them as often. Maybe I could use a single battery for the full day I don't know how long a brand new battery lasts anymore.. Its been so long since I had a brand new battery, I had the same batteries for like almost 3 years and they are IMR so they started not lasting for crap. I just put one of my new batteries into my vamo though last night so I'll se how lonjg it lasts.
Its funny though when I put this new battery in my vamo started hitting SOOOO much harder, my old batteries where really shot.

30 gauge Kanthal is a good wire for 1.8 to 2.0 ohms. It's around 7 to 8 wraps with a 5/64" or 2mm drill bit. For a basic single micro coil, around 7-8 wraps @ 5/64" diameter will give you the optimal heat flux (the sweet spot between minimal lag and overheating).

What about building a non micro coil? any suggestions? thanks again :)
