I received my order of vamo v2, vivi nova with dekang usa mix 24mg nic today. Charged the batteries, put liquid in tank and let it sit in tank for 2 hours.
When I started vaping I keep coughing and can barely inhale the vape. I am around a 15 year pack a day smoker of parliament lights.
Am I coughing because the tank is new or the nicotine is too high or dekang usa mix sucks?
any suggestions are welcome please.

Well 24 mg might well be high for a "lites" type smoker. It will have a much harsher throat hit than what you are used to.

I know absolutely NOTHING about dekang I am hoping someone else jumps in with info on that.

It is also possible there was some "fluid" in the head of the vivi when it shipped that hasnt been vaped out yet. I typically soak the heads before using them to avoid that nasty stuff.

ANother possibility is a sensitivity to VG or PG. SOme people are. Various juices out there canbe got in various mixes of the 2 or all one or the other. Experiment a bit see if it helps.

I don't know anything about Dekang juice, so I can't help there - I know I didn't do well with my 2nd attempt at vaping because I kept coughing all the time. For me, it was two things - the juice I had was 80 pg/20 vg and that was too high of pg for me. Second, I had ordered a butterscotch flavor and it was too, too sweet for me. So, sometimes it takes some experimenting! When I tried a 60/40 peppermint juice, it was like the stars and moons aligned - never picked up another cig again. 24 mg's might be a little high for a PAD smoker but I'm not an expert on that - I know as a pack and a half a day smoker, I started at 18 and quickly dropped to 12 - but I don't think that's the norm. And remember not to inhale like you would on a cig. Someone else will have more information but it's a slower inhale - you can search ECF for info and find videos on YouTube if you need.

Good luck and welcome to ECF! :toast: You'll get it sorted out and the coughing will stop!

Neptoon, another thing you might try is vaping your rig like you're smoking a pipe. Instead of doing a directly into the lungs inhale, puff the vapor into your mouth, giving it a few moments to let it cool before you try to inhale the vaper. Vaping is a bit different than smoking. Give that a try and see if it helps you any with what you have. I do agree that the nic levels you have there are quite a bit higher than a light smoker will general prefer and the nic level will make the vape much harsher.

I tried tinkering at several voltages from 3.5-to 5v but it seems this liquid is really strong and too harsh for my liking. I guess i'll order something with less nicotine and fruitier.

You could order some of the same juice in a much lower nic level and mix them which basically cuts the level down. I had to do that when I started. I was a PAD "ULTRA LIGHTS" smoker. 12 mg was literally giving me a headrush it was so strong. I bought some of the same juice in 6 mg and mixed it with the 12 mg stuff and was a happy camper.

Yeah, I should have researched more about nicotine levels making it harsher. Didn't know that was the effect. I was expecting to take mega hits and feel smooth vapor going in. lol but the reality is with what i bought I can only take these small puffs and try not to cough.
Its ok though, Tomorrow i'll go get some lighter smoother liquid probably from diamond vapor because its near my area.

you could cut it with VG (available at Walmart in the bandage/first aid section - at mine anyway) it is Glycerine by Humco (on bottom shelf and hard to spot) - it will cut the nic and the flavor (unfortunately - but this may help - it does sweeten it just a tiny bit) and will generate more vape - just try mixing small amounts at 5-10 percent - buy some extra empty bottles and an eye dropper while you are at walmart - my :2c:

Some flavours just don't work for people, regardless of the nicotine content or the PG/VG content. I mix my own, always in the same PG/VG ratio and same nic level. Certain flavours just irritate my throat...I've tried flavouring them with a lower percentage but it doesn't help. There's something in some flavour bases people are allergic to or irritated by. I do agree you started at a high nic level based on your previous smoking habits. As others have said, experiment! Experimenting can be lots of fun.

its at 3ohms right now and I have 2 other head that came with the box.
After several hours of vaping now I can say the harshness calmed down a bit but i'm not satisfied with the flavor and craving for a cig. I want to thank everyone for the swift replies and don't worry I know I must be strong and this most likely is not the best juice to steer me off full time yet. I have more exploring to do e-juice wise and am motivated to do so until I find something good.

there is definitely a learning curve...we all coughed when we were "learning" to smoke..and then it became second nature. same with vaping. there are videos of "how to vape" (i rolled my eyes at first but now i feel dumb that i did LOL)
I recently watched a review/tutorial on the vamo and there is a no1 and no2 setting and i think that default is no1 but most ppl use no2? (there is soooo much information on this forum it sometimes gets all jumbly upon recall for me LOL)

is 3.5v the lowest the vamo goes?
what coil head is in your vivi nova?
I have some juices that i have to turn everything ALL the way down and vape gingerly to avoid coughing/tightness and others that i turn everything up to ELEVEN (spinal tap reference) and have to work really hard to get even a measily hit. same mfg, same blend, same nic

as long as you are going to be getting another liquid, i suggest trying another flavor while you are at it (not tobacco based). there are so many amazing flavors out there you'll wonder why you ever smoked tobacco.
Plus, if you are just starting out on quitting analogs...i feel like the farther you can get from it the more successful you'll be/enjoy vaping and not smoke and then when you feel confident that analogs are truly in the past can give the tobacco a try.

at least that is my $.14 :D

i primarily use the 2.4ohm and go to the 1.8ohm for the super strong one i mentioned and 3.0ohm for the super weak one

there is also a Vaping Power Chart for ohm to volt usage so you don't get a mouth full of plastic vape :)

I would try what dekota jim suggested and dilute with VG. If you want to experiment add 2 drops water to what you have in the vivi and see if that helps. Normally you use water to thin VG but if what you have is unvapeable right now - who knows it may help. It will thin your juice more and lower you mic level a little.

Also make sure you are on watts not volts
