I used a stack of dimes once in a pinch to space out a 18490 to work in a 18650 Zmax change is very conductive.

EDIT: I should add I wrapped the dimes with bit of electrical tape around the edges and put them on the negative side of the battery if anyone trys this trick in a pinch.

Actually, a battery is a group of cells.

Point is, you should never use a Lithium cell, if it's not in some kind of case (tube), or proper container. If anything happens, this case should be there to protect you.

A fuse is a very basic protection, and it does apply to lithium batteries, because if you short them, they will fail spectacularly.

I've had my share of shorted AA and 9v batteries, but that's really harmless. In a jam, use electrical tape to cover a cell, end over end (to carry it around). At your own risk.

If I know I'm going to have two batteries in my purse, I wrap them separately in their own paper towel. This is to ensure they do not make contact. If I'm carrying only one, I have a small zippered pocket in my purse that never has anything metal in that compartment. I really should get a carrying case for my batteries. Until that time I'm being as careful as I can.

Regular alkaline batteries are also prone to the old change and keys in the pocket accident. Just ask Mr. Robin.

I have seen more stories of batteries shorting and venting while being carried in pockets bare than almost any other mode of failure.

Battery cases are like a buck. I buy them each time I buy batteries. if the batteries are not in a mod, or the charger, they are in a battery case.

Also, I shut my mods off before putting them in my purse. I have a Natural. I was at home and had put it in its holder and walked away, It was not shut off at the time, and how it was in the holder was pushing on the fire button. I was only gone a few minutes and it was pretty hot, I removed the battery to let it cool down and nothing bad happened. It scared my enough that I watch how I storem my mods at home. I leave my ProVaris powered on, but I always lock the Natural button when not in use. And if I take my Silver Bullet anywhere, I remove the battery when not in use.

Now that makes since I just did not see how what you said applied to the Op situation. A piece of tape is another good idea Id prefer a case but your way is just as effective

I never really thought about that, I usually wear like cargos so I always have them in a separate pocket, but I don't do that because a battery may vent. I think I'll stick to what I'm doing.

No excuse not to have, really.

If my batteries aren't in a mod they are snug in their cases.

People don't think though. I received juice in a standard business sized envelope once, no wrapping, no padding. 30ml. I was incredulous, and so was the post office, since it arrived hanging out of the envelope...thank goodness it didn't break.

I can't even imagine sending that to somebody, I mean, it's just COMMON SENSE.

also to keep them in a case as it happens quite often that those having battery issues are usually carrying them in a pocket with other metal objects.

Just the other day a friend had one go off in his pocket due to loose change. RTD vapor (and a few other sites) have plastic cases to carry your spares around in. When my batteries aren't in my mod or the charger they're in a case.

Battery cases, cheap and effective. You probably short circuited the battery with the other metal objects. Avoiding excess heat is a good idea also. But one sure way to destruct a battery is to short circuit it. Glad you were O.K., and thanks for sharing, stories like this help to drive home the point that care needs to be used with these batteries.

For the time being I'm using the cardboard packaging e feat batteries come in since I have two of those the right size. But I'm certainly going to order a few cases.
