Hey guys
So I went to Las Vegas at the very end of July. I hadn't smoked a cigarette in 6 years and had done so well. Well, everyone is smoking in the casino and I just thought "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!" Yeah right! I smoked a cigarette while gambling and have been smoking ever since! For shame, right? So I noticed I'm smoking over a pack sometimes already! Oh crap! I used to smoke 2 packs a day. I need something to keep my hands and mind away from the full tar crap! Cigarettes make my lungs hurt so bad and the cough...well eww. I know I'm going to develop that nasty smoker cough again if I keep this up. So I started researching perhaps nicotine gum or a patch to cut back or curb my smoking and then I just found out about ecigs!!! Could this be my deterrent? Will this save my lungs from the nasty smokers cough and crappy feeling? I was researching ecigs and they seem to be much safer than cigarettes. Especially the well known brands that list their ingredients and are generally safe. I was looking at zerocigs and vapor 4 life and blu. I am going to order my ecigarette starter pack sometime this weekend. I'm totally outta control with the smokes! How have you guys done switching from regular smokes to ecigs? Has it helped you quit regular cigs or cut back a lot?

Sorry for going on on and on. You guys who vape mostly are or were cigarette smokers. You know that nasty unhealthy feeling you get when you smoke too much. I noticed my husband has been complaining of my smoky hair/breathe. Sigh. I hope this helps. I watched a couple of youtube vids about vaping/ecigs and it looks like the real thing. Is the effect good? How many cartomizers do you need per week if you are a pack a day smoker? Sigh......I also smoke marlboro menthol light 100's so wondering how much nicotine I would need...hmmm. Help!

WELCOME TO THE ECF

I'm glad that you have found this forum and wish you the best in the future. All of us on this forum have gone through the same thing. I smoked a PAD for 20 yrs and the only thing that kept me off cigs for this long is E-cigs. Nothing else had worked. I tried numerous times and failed over and over again.

It was an easy transition for me. Since I was mainly addicted to inhaling and exhaling of smoke. Rather than the chemicals or hand to mouth addiction.

You have to be VERY careful when your beginning. Since the companies you have named are the ones that basically rip people off with awful products that don't work well at all.

I want to give you some great kits to choose from that work great:

Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarettes | Wholesale Electronic Cigarettes | E-Cigarette | Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarette
This is one of the most popular cig sized e-cigs on this forum. I highly suggest that you get the PRO KIT with BLANK cartomizers. This will save you money and also, you will have a PCC just in case you need to charge a battery on the go.

Finally, you will have the option to choose great e-liquids that are good.

Here's a sub-forum for all who own VOLTS:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...87974-official-smokelessimage-com-thread.html

Great group of people that are eager to help out with any questions that you have on filling cartomizers, etc.

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510
The Riva is one of the big batt kits that are available. Very affordable once you click on the 20% discount on the upper left hand corner. Great battery life (8-12) hours and 510 threaded. Which means that you can use any 510 cartomizer/atomizer on these.

You will also need e-liquid:

Heyas Miss,

Glad to hear you want to quit smoking. Always a good thing.

I only started vaping a few weeks ago, so take anything I say with a grain of salt ;p

I haven't heard of zerocig. Blu is generally regarded as overpriced crap on these forums. I've heard good things about vapor 4 life, but have no direct experience with them.

A couple thoughts for you. Instead of rushing out to order a kit this weekend, why not spend your free time this weekend surfing these forums and researching a bit. It'll be time well spent!

Also, even though I just finished saying Blu's are regarded as crap, Walgreens sells blu disposables for ~$8 each. The whole thing is disposable, battery included. Use it up and toss it. It would probably only last you a day or two, so would not be a way to save money, or a long term solution. But, for only 8 bucks, you can at least get an idea if vaping is for you. And, I tried one of the Blu menthol disposables, and have to admit it was quite tasty, for overpriced crap :p

Other than that, like I said, research before hand will pay off. Try not to let the look of the different ecigs put you off too much. I started out wanting something that looked exactly like an analog. Then decided that mostly analog shape, but all black would be acceptable, then stopped caring about the color of the LED. After a few false starts, I ended up ordering a Joye eGo kit. First time I saw a pic of an ego, I thought NOT FOR ME! Too big. Doesn't look like a cig. But, having tried it, I love it. Performs flawlessly, batts last a long time between charges, and the ego is well regarded around here, so I was pretty sure I was buying a quality product.

Almost forgot to mention. About 5 months ago, I started smoking again after having quit for 10 years. I was up to about 1 1/2 PAD. Now, although I still smoke the stinkies, I average about 6-7 analogs a day, and that number is still dwindling, so I'm quite happy with my progress. I'll stop analogs altogether when I'm ready, and I'm not feeling deprived in the mean time thanks to the nic in the ejuice.

Hope this helps,
Maximillian the Vaguely Disreputable

Since you just started smoking again, I would start with an eGo kit from liberty-flights.com. Use code october20 for 20% off your total order. While you're there, get some Boge cartomizers around 2.0ohm and a drip tip. Now for juice, I like cold creek from nitelitevapor.com. I was a 4 PAD smoker of some nasty menthols. Cold creek is a nice blend of mint and menthol but don't let that fool you. The mint takes the Hall's cough drop taste away. Their juices are reasonably priced and are pretty tasty. You might also try some fruit flavors. I tried to avoid tobacco flavors when I first quit smoking because I worried about it triggering my desire to smoke but everyone is different. If I were you, I would start out at 12-18mg and go from there. Good luck to you and if you have any questions, yell out.

No problem at all. I think that everyone here, including me was desperate in our search for something that will allow us to quit smoking cigs. Like any addiction. One of anything will start it back up and will be extremely hard to quit again. I made the same mistake with a mall kit I bought in 2008. I hated it so much that I went back to cigs for a few years until I found the ECF. Honestly, was one of the best things that has happened to me. Haven't smoked in 1/2 a year and feel great.

One more thing I would like to mention is to buy sample bottles of what you want to try from the vendors I have given you. You'll find out that they are some of the most popular on here. Also, buy some different mixes of PG/VG. Or even one of each since some people are allergic to PG based juices.

If you smoke 2 PAD than start off with a few bottles of 24mg and 18mg to see what works best for you.

...welcome...glad you found us...most of us can tell stories similar to yours...I was a 3ppd smoker and these nicstics are near miracles for me...THEY DO WORK...you've gotten good advice already, the Riva510 from Liberty flights is a good starter kitl...other options in the same form factor are the KGO from hoosierecigsupply.com or even better, the E-power from the same folks...spend some time reading around, following links to vendor sites to see what is available...two thoughts to leave ya with...the closer to a ciggy look alike it is, the poorer the performance will be and if you see a vendor listed or recommended here, there is high probability it is legit...don't fall for TV adds and the numerous fake websites out there...good luck on your hunt and we will be here to help when you need it.......

Washvap, thank you for telling me the brands I was looking at are generally crappy! Your post is very helpful. I'm just desperate to stop my smoking problem before it gets even worse. I mean, only 2 months smoking after 6 years quit and I'm already at a pack or so a day. NOT good

Washvap is misinformed. Vapor4Life is an excellent brand and I quit a 37+ year smoking habit using their products. I still use them, as do many other vapers on this forum. I highly recommend them.

Edited to add that I am very, very tired of the way a few posters dismiss KR808D-1 ecigs as somehow inferior to 510's. The truth is that for many vapers, it's the other way around. The Ego is not the Holy Grail, it has a lower voltage than the V4L batteries, and it doesn't pack the same punch. It simply lasts longer because the battery is larger.

We could get into the wattage and battery life and who makes the best Ecig, but the point is to find something that works without costing an arm and a leg to maintain. There's nothing wrong with any ecig that works. The catch is that the rule of thumb works out to be that battery life is dependent on MAH (milliamp per hour) ratings. About 100 mah equals an hour of vaping. If you buy small batteries, you will spend your vaping life going back and forth to the charger.

If you want something you can use while out and about, a 650mah battery is a good choice. Riva 510 batteries are 3.7v batts with a 750mah rating. You can easily get 5 or 6 hours from one charge. One spare battery and a couple of extra cartos will get you through a work day.

The Riva 510 kit from Liberty Flights is a good, solid deal at $29.95 for the basic Lite Bundle or $34.99 for the same kit with 10 cartos. It is thread compatible with anything made for a 510 model.

There's nothing wrong with a KR808. Just charge up a few batteries and carry them with you. Personally, I don't care for using a battery personal charger/carry case. I'd just as soon have a battery with some life right out of the charger. Small batteries = frequent trips to the charger, IMO. Auto batteries are out in my book because there is no atomizer that doesn't eventually leak juice into the auto switch. I'm used to pushing a button to vape.

Welcome to ECF. Before you decide what to get do some research on this forum - you will get great advice and it will increase the probability of success.

If you must have a cigarette sized device I would recommend you get a KR808D1 or a Joye 510. They are both excelent, with the KR808 being the better one of the two. Be aware that the batteries will only last for an hour or two, so having extra batteries and a PCC is a must. Smokeless Image and Vapor4Life are good sources for the KR's and Liberty Flights for the Joye 510.

If you don't mind something a little bigger, try the eGo, Riva or the KGO. The Riva and KGO are clones/knock-offs of the eGo but IMO they are better devices because they provide a higher voltage. The smallest batteries on these will provide at least 6-8 hours of vaping. They will also give you the option to use low-resistance atomizers and cartomizers, and are threaded for 510 giving you the most options. Liberty Flights and Hoosiers are good sources for these.

You may also try to familiarize yourself with cartomizers and filling them. There are lots of YouTube videos on this subject.

Good luck and happy vaping...

OH YES! Vaping works for sure! I tried everything to quit smoking analogs over the last 10 years. I was a pack a day smoker for 30 years. My daughter suggested I try e-cigs so I went to the local convenience store and grabbed a disposable one day. That day was the day I was done with analogs, I never bought another pack. I was hooked on the e cig that quickly. I did my research like we should and I somehow ended up with a greensmoke D2 setup, yes, pricey, hard to find compatible parts etc. (LeCig has them)....the cartos tasted good enough (and a warm vape) to keep my off of analogs though and that was what mattered. Then I JUST HAD TO HAVE the 510 model because they are versatile. At first I did not like it..... days later, I loved it...still do, however, I wanted to try the Ego (still use the 510 and D2 as well). Simply put, it's awesome. Just like many others, I had to have something that looked like a real cig first...then progressed to a place that I am satisfied. I have tried the liquids from about a dozen eliquid stores already (using advice from posters on this forum) and have yet to buy a juice I did not like....HOWEVER....do let the juices steep (sit for at least a week) before you judge, it is very important and I did not know this when I first got some liquid from a very popular vendor and thought it tasted like mustard, lol. A week later, it became my favorite vape!...and still is.
As you go through the forum here you will find a ton of helpful info, I know I did. These folks are awesome.
I should stop rambling, but remember everyone is different, tastes are different as well as nic needs. Experiment and have fun!

Yes vaping will definitely help you get off analogs, at least it did for me and many others here. I tried many types of slim ecigs and the best I have found and am still using is the Halo G6, it looks and feels like a cigarette, has good TH and I love it. It is a KR808D-1 style batt. I get the standard length for better batt life. Also Halo has great tobacco and menthol flavors. But whatever you choose, good for you and it will help you get off analongs. bnrk

I have used both a KR808 and an ego(510). The one thing I do like better about the ego(or any 510 model), is that there is a greater variety of things to go with it. Different types of cartos, different types of attys. However, you can get an adapter for an 808 to 510 if you want to try more things. However, if you want to get into low resistance type attys or cartos, the 808 does not really have the battery to power them
Many people are happy with either model. The hard part is picking which one you want to try

Welcome. To each his/her own but if not for vaping I would still be sucking down 1 1/2- 2 packs a day. Im def not the " quit cold turkey" type lol so vaping was the perfect solution.

I started and still use a Kr808 and while I do like them if I had to do it all over again I most likely would have went the Liberty Flights Riva route like many people have already said. Good luck.

Hey guys, the curiosity was killing me so I went to Walgreen's and bought a blu disposable ecig just to feel what it was like. OMG, I've been puffing on it all day. I think I'm already hooked, because these aren't even supposed to be the "good ones". I think once I get one of the better quality starter kits, I am going to be super hooked. Anything is better than smoking regular cigs all the time. I remember the hardcore smoker's cough I used to get and at the rate I'm going I will be having it again. And I'm only 35! I had a nasty smoker's cough when was smoking in my 20's, that is how I knew i needed to quit. Of course now that I have reverted to smoking again, I definitely know that anything is better than smoking analogs. Going to try to phase them out completely over the next couple of weeks. You guys are so helpful. Thank you!! My daughter saw me smoking it and said that there was no nasty smoke and ash and she was pleased. My kids hate that I started smoking again and this would be a much more tolerable option. So far it's looking like I'm a vaper already!

Woot! Glad you had as good of an experience as I did with the disposable. Anytime I mention the blu disposables around here, I have this instinctive urge to cover my head with my jacket, to avoid the rotten vegetables that I expect to be pelted with :p

j/k. So far, no one has thrown decomposing floodstuffs!

At under 10 bucks a pop, and with walgreens everywhere, I think it's a great way to give vaping a try without worrying about spending loads of coin and waiting days to try one of the more highly regarded options. And, you've already gotten over the whole needs to be colored like a normal analog, and has to be the same length as an analog hangups! The blu disposable is about the same diameter as a standard 510 (or maybe exactly the same diameter. Haven't measured it for myself). And is even a bit longer than a 510 with atty and cart.

+1 to liberty flights. I've ordered supplies from them (although not an actual starter kit) and the service was prompt and hassle free. At first I didn't care for the site, since they bill through paypal, and for some reason won't accept a debit card through paypal. Has to be a credit card, echeck, or billmelater. Paypal says that echecks take 3-5 days to clear, irrc, and advises the merchants not to ship until it clears. But, liberty flights shipped the same day that I ordered in spite of this. In fact, I had the merchandise in my hands a couple days before the payment actually cleared!

I haven't tried the Riva, but so many here like it that I figure it has to be good quality, and liberty flights does have excellent prices on the riva kits. I'd probably buy one myself, but am completely satisfied with my ego, so no complaints here.

Personally, I love reading lots of different opinions here, and then choosing for myself. The best advice I can give is read lots, compare prices and reviews, and buy whatever strikes YOUR fancy. There's no one size fits all ecig. Or, if there is, why didn't anyone tell me?

Welcome once again to a great community!

Happy Vaping,
Maximillian the Vaguely Disreputable
