I took the first steps into quitting smoking cigarettes less than a week ago. I went to my local Naval base and bought myself an EVOD starter kit. It came with two pens, a wall charger (USB plugin), the USB charger, and the traveling case. I was able to get a few days of usage out of it but now it refuses to charge. When I plug the USB charger into either the supplied wall charger, or my computer the LED light will glow red without a battery being attached. When I do attach the battery the light goes out and the battery does not charge. I have taken a pair of tweezers to the battery to "gently" fiddle the center pin upwards.

Any help on this would be awesome. Like I said, I'm just starting into the vape scene after years of my friends convincing me vaping was the way to go. I'm eager to be apart of the community and lend the knowledge I learn from my daily experiences to other who may be starting out themselves. But that's miles down the road for me.

Same thing happens to your second battery?
Yes, same thing with both batteries. I was able to get one to charge the day I bought the kit. After that, nothing. How common is it to buy a kit and get a faulty charger or battery? I'm seen a lot of YT videos and forum posts about it being a common occurrence.

I've been that route and other than a center pin being stuck (as you have fiddled with) and a bad charger the best advice I can give is to upgrade. The best tank to closely mimic smoking (in my opinion) is the Aspire Nautilus Mini. (also buy a 5 pack of NAUTILUS bvc coils in 1.6 or 1.8 ohm) The most recommended starter mod is the Eleaf IStick 30 watt (or Innokin Coolfire IV) for its ease of use.
iStick 30 watt and Nautilus Mini

I've used these U.S. vendors with no issues:

My journey... The Nautilus was when I decided I had the cigs beat in my vape experience...

The Nautilus is on the tall eGo in the center and iStick 50 watt on right. I would have saved a lot of money had I known to start with the Nautilus and a good mod. Good luck.

Might try to borrow a charger and see if the charger is the problem. Also, Congrats on the step toward getting off the cigs. I've been using the Vapor to cut back with the goal of quitting altogether.

Thanks! It won't be easy. I've been smoking Newports for about 6 years now. My best bet would be to buy a whole new charger or charging kit. Closest Vapers I know are about 4-5 solid hours away. My tough luck.

You can do it lol I was 3+ packs a day I'm now down to about half a pack depending on the day sometimes less sometimes a lot more lol

It won't be easy.

But it is easy! You'll be surprised at how easy it is, once you get the equipment issues straightened out. I've been smoking for 30 some years, and I was up to 2 packs a day for the last long while. I wasn't intending to quit, I just wanted to see what e cigs were all about. But I realized in the first hour that this was something that just might work. And it did! It'll still take a little effort on your part, but on a difficulty scale of 1 - 10, where patches/gum/etc. are a 10, quitting by vaping is like a 3.

I will second second the Nautilus Mini/iStick 30 watt. That's what I use now, and they've never given me a bit of trouble.

If you're thinking of new gear you should shop online, it's much less expensive and ordering from a US based vendor is usually 4 days to hand. Having dependable gear can make the transition to vape from cigs so much easier it will shock you.

I kept going back and getting the small ego batteries and wasted a lot of money.

Two things to try - plug the charger in and slowly turn the battery on until it turns red. Often people will also over tighten their batteries and twist the connection til it's broke off inside. You can take the charger aparT and reattach wire then.

When I plug the USB into the wall charger that came with it, the light is already on, and it is orange(y) not red. When I attach the battery to it, the light will continue to be orange. As I tighten the battery down onto it to charge the battery, the light will simply turn off. My battery is powered on so when I go to click the button the LED on the charger will also turn on, showing the orange light.

Just fiddling with a non charging system+ vision spinner, took it apart [battery] and the ground was floating near its ground point. theres no rhyme or reason for this but this scenario is not all that common, but it does happen. my suggestion would be to plug and unplug the battery from the charger 5xs and see if something will reset. are you using the batteries till cutoff? that can sometimes bring the battery down past the lvc and it cant recover.

ps,ive been trying to log in here for a few months and it was a bugger, but i got back in..

I bought the Blu one that came with the rechargeable cig like case. worked for about 1 week.

sounds like a faulty charger.
if you have a dmm you could check to see if the charger is putting out 4.2 volts or not.

Oh, and maybe you expect to charge fast: don't bet on it; think more like 8 hours not 1 or 2 hours.

Understandable, I prefer to let any electronic sit on the charger for at least 3-4 hours. I know my pap has a reader I'll grab one later this afternoon.

Take it back and get your money. A lot of good suggestions...

People here WANT smokers to be successful.

thats what it is looking like. Not sure how returns work at the naval base with these being a "germ hazard" but I'll run over and return this in a few hours if these issue persist. I'm turning my sights towards Nautilus Mini/iStick 30 watt. Haven't looked too closely into yet but I will be now.

With the istick30 you will have a screen showing you ohms , volts, battery voltage, charging status, etc;
much easier to deal with instead of having to guess what's wrong.

Take it back for a refund before you can no longer do so. The EVOD kits are very old tech. If you like the EVOD form-factor; I would look at something like this:

ENDURA T18 | Vaporizer - Innokin

If you don't care about the form-factor there are many, many options available. Many of them already mentioned in this thread.

Smoking is probably easier than Vaping, as unless you go swimming with your cig's you can nearly always find a 'light' and get that thing going!
It's very frustrating. Bad kit is common (Blu and all those lame brands) and sometimes we buy genuinely decent brands and then get some annoying issue.
I've had good and bad eGo/Evod batteries. Most were OK, but nearly all suffered charging problems. Vision Spinners were the worst.
USB (mini usb) is the better technology. Charging 'down' the 510 pin is a roulette of trouble. iTaste VV (v3, for example) was excellent in this respect.
Of course, the ultimate way to charge is to use removable batteries (18650) in a mod that allows this. It used to be TUBE mods, but these days BOX mods are the real stars of the show.
