IMRs are pretty safe to use without a fuse as long as you understand the amp limit of the battery and what you are drawing through your atomizer. You don't want any shorts either. First sign of a battery issue is going to be heat. If you have a short or are over discharging the battery it will get hot VERY fast.

I did the same thing today, and it definitely picked it up. Went from 4.17/3.79 to 4.17/3.93. I didn't sand the top of the connector pin tho.
I just got my K100 yesterday. I sanded the firing pin but that's it. So far I like it. I really want to get one of the K101 or whatever it is in black when they Hoosier has them.
Its tricky to sand the top pin but man what a pia to get the pin out and I never succeeded lol so what I did was grab a scissor and scratch the top pin then fold the sandpaper small and work it over there lol ... thats a nice read out on the underload anyways what was the resistant in that underload?

Ok, I did the sanding, and noaloxed the threads. Before and after is, 4.17/3.25 - 4.17/3.91, with a 1.7Ω carto. I did not sand the top of the connector pin. I will probably attempt that at a later time.
Got mine in, in 18350 mode a total stealth vape.

Speaking of batteries, how do you know whether the PV will or won't accept a flat top battery? I started with AW IMRs because I bought them for my Provari and they can't use flat tops. I now have a Segelei telescope and have an Empire K100 on its way. How do you know whether they can use flat tops, or protected batteries, for that matter?

If the positive pin it the top of the mod sticks out, a flat top battery should work fine. A protected battery or an IMR work fine in this mod, but IMR high drain batteries are recommended for users building very low resistance coils, below 1.5 ohms.

I planned on going to raw aluminum once the anodizing started wearing, but this looks so good i might need to get out the sandpaper sooner! I think the K101 will look good sanded too - a totally different look.
I started flipping the battery upside down so the button in the bottom would shorten the throw a bit. That works with my protected and Orbtronic hybrid batteries well. I found with my AW IMR 2000mah battery that the top button is squared off so it fits inside the delrin spring isolator, making the throw even shorter. If I tighten it down really hard it will fire nonstop, but that's only with strong tightening. I like a really short throw and it still stands on end without firing.

Is there no problem with flipping batteries upside down? I thought the positive end ALWAYS has to go in first. Is this not true?
You can flip the battery in any mechanical as all the battery is doing is applying power to the coil. It doesn't which side of the coil gets the positive and which side gets the negative.
Yes, VV/VW have a positive and negative and has to usually have the battery go in with the positive up as there is a chip that has to be powered.
