I'm having trouble with my tanks and have searched ECF and other areas but can't come up with a solution. I changed out the stock dual coils with a single micro coil and cotton wick. They keep leaking down the center post. A few times I've lost an entire tank into my purse.

On one, I found the rubber insulator had a tear so it went in the parts bag and I assumed that was it but then it kept happening. I've tried organic cotton and KGD cotton. I've changed the coil again. Adjusted the center post and checked the rubber insulator and all o-rings. Everything looks fine. A little bit ago I took one apart, washed it good, dried, rewicked and fluffed up and primed the cotton. Filled the tank half way up and it worked like a champ. Removed it from my vv v3 several times and there wasn't any juice in the 510 connector. So I filled it on up.

Then I laid it down on the kitchen counter for about 15 minutes. When I picked it up, there was no vapor and a lot of gurgling. The 510 was full of juice. I cleaned it up, checked to make sure there was still at least half a tank and basically did nothing but put it back together. Now it works, popping like normal.

I feel like it has more to do with the function of the wick than anything else. I've tried more cotton, just right cotton and less cotton. Longer and shorter wicks. I haven't tried rayon. Could it be doing something when I lay it down? It usually happens when I'm heading out the door and it's so frustrating.

My trusty ole Reo works just fine but sometimes I just don't want to squonk for a while. And the Vv's are my office device for the most part.

So many of you have more experience with these coils than I do. Any words of advice?

I put all of my protanks on the kanger airflow control valves... no more leaking. Any small leaks are caught by the valve and I do have to clean it every once in awhile, but no more messes.

I got mine from fasttech. I'm not sure if they're evod compatible or not though.

Also for me, we're having a hot spell and everything seems more prone to flooding/leaking.

You are right about the wick, improper wicking will lead to leaking. Not enough liquid in the tank will cause them to leak. I never vape mine below the internal raised ring. Overpriming with a light wick can also cause this. I carry four of them a day to work laying down in my travel pouch with no problems. Dual coils heads will need a top flavor wick to take up the extra space leftover after a single coil rebuild.

Final option, counterfeit knockoff tank, some of those leak like a sieve. Always check the scratch off box code.

Sounds like not quite enough wick and as Emily said, the air flow base is a winner for sure. Sun Vapers has them for a good price. I still have no less then 10 and 10 Pt's and mini Pt's in rotation and although I no longer use them much, I do keep them serviced for a friend. All of the PT's have the air flow base fitted to them. The minis seem to work just fine without.

I now refer you to Megan....;)

No, I mean laid it on it's side today which hasn't been a problem before but I probably shouldn't do that. Now that it's working, I've kept it upright. But there have been times I left it upright and it happened also. I dunno...

I wondered about compressing the cotton more like a wick. I haven't been putting extra cotton in on top, however, and that might help. I think the AFC's only fit the PT's.

Your wicks are too thin. put in thicker wicks. ;)

Laying them down is not a problem when wick is correct. Been doing it every day for months at work with Mini 2, four of them at a time. Wick should move easily inside coil with light resistance. Top flavor wick will fix this, similar in size to bottom wick.

I always had horrible problems with flavor wicks on top of the wicked coil. When I put in a coil I pull till it won't go any further without distorting the coil out and then I pull it back just a smidge then trim and it's good to go. ;)

If you increase the diameter of the coil in the dual head units there is no need for extra wick on top, However, you may need to adjust the gauge of your wire up or down depending on the ohm you are shooting for. Say you are shooting for 1.2 ohms @ 3mm. 26 ga requires a 8/7 wrap and is a wee bit too tight however, 28 ga requires a 5/4 wrap and is just right. On a side note, a larger diameter coil equals more wick and more wick equals less blow by however, too much equals that nasty burnt flavor the we all loath.

Did I mention I love to tinker?

Learned the extra flavor wick isn't for me. It reduced Wakonda to a nothing vape, I literally couldn't taste a thing. Who ever decided to call those a FLAVOR wick? :D Keeping in mind I'm used to Wakonda in the Reo so just putting it in a tank mutes it enough already. I pulled the extra wick out to get through the afternoon.

Although the KGD cotton works great for me in the Reo, I don't think I'm doing something right with it in the tanks. I need to figure that out since I could wick them for the next ten years or wallpaper my bedroom with what's in that little box!

When you say "laid it down," you're talking upright, right?

Depends on the fill and wick situation, really. The entry holes for the coil need to stay under liquid in order to maintain vacuum. Learned this the hard way with a KF . . . the chamber is "open to air" and if you expose either of the juice ports to the air space of the tank, you'll loose vacuum and level will equalize (ie - ooze into the chamber). Unlike the KF, the PT does have wicking jammed into the entry hole, better than an open hole, of course. Thing is, if the wicking is light, it'll ooze in air from the top (and juice from the bottom) a little quicker. It is a slow ooze, still.

Make sure the top o-ring for the glass tank is seated properly, too.

I really haven't tried rebuilding the new dual coils but I do use the old single coils for the mpt2 in my mpt3 that I rebuild. I've come up with two messes from leaking but that's it. I'll wet the wick real well and let it sit for about 5-10 mins, then re-wet and then fill the tank, put together and then vape a good 4-5 hits. Haven't really had an issue doing that,I might be wrong but I think that created a vacuum so it didn't leak through the center post.

If all you have is the dual coils, you can try making a coil a little bigger and adding a flavor wick to take up the extra space. I have a few dual coils I need to rebuild and haven't gotten around to yet. I'll try to get to it in the next few days and maybe figure something out.

Flavor wick = cheap fix for a leaky clearo. HAHA
