Thought I was the only one who got one-day's use out of a protank coil before at least a cotton-change/dry-burn tune up. Freshly rebuilt ones just taste and work so well.
I've got several coils that I just cleaned out and put new cotton wicks in. Did my first dry burn on the coil and I can't wait to try it tomorrow. I used the cotton ball method explained by another member and it was really easy to twist up a wick. To me it seems like the cotton would burn up fast, but from what others have said, it's the way to go. I'll find out soon!

I've got 2 Iclear 16s that came with my Itaste 2.0 MVP and they do work great. I've also been looking at the iclear 30S. I believe the only difference between the 30 and the 30S is the shield that goes around the wicks. I don't vape fruity flavors, so I don't think I have to worry about the PC tanks on the Iclear cracking. Less expensive, too...

plastic tanks don't crack because of a liquid cutting it with a tiny saw; they crack because there is chemical reaction going on.

what if the chemical reaction isn't that bad to give you a crack; some eliquids just cloud the plastic eventually- or maybe that's just surface residue that can be washed off;

i'm so plastics chemist expert, but imo, its good to get a good old reliable glass tank for the longer term. plastic is fine to try out.
theres a reason people eat from stone plates and drink from stone and glass cups

The iClears are "ok" but the taste from a Kanger is superior. AND the replaceable parts. AND no plastic. Ugh you'd think Innokin would use glass at least... I use my iClears for menthol liquids only. Berry and sweet juices are better from glass :)
I was wondering the same thing. Why doesn't Innokin come out with pyrex tanks? They've got a few decent mods and I'd think they'd want to add a glass tank option...

Wow, I hope I can 2-3 weeks out of my wicks, that would be awesome. I may have to switch to my 2nd favorite juice, as it's lighter than the thick, dark juice I'm vaping now. I almost wish I'd never tried this juice, as it's incredible, but hard on the coils from what I'm learning...

Unflavored is also a good sample to keep around; gives you a sort of taste baseline so you can distinguish your own equipment taste from the eliquid taste; different wicks contribute differernt tastes

That's what the manufacturers say, as well. It's the chemical reaction from fruity or spicy juices that tend to etch or crack them. I read a review from a Halo user that said his plastic Triton tank cracked when he used one of Halo's strong menthol juices. I prefer the glass, it just seems to be a smarter idea, but I'm no expert, either.

I hope that cotton coil does good for you. Sounds like you are figuring it out! Everyone has different preferences. If that cotton doesn't do it for you, try some silica wick.

With the cotton IT WILL BURN if you are not careful. Put some juice on the wick before you set the post back on.

What's your resistance? What mod are you putting it on?

Hi HecticEnergy, I tried the cotton and it makes the liquid taste different. I think I'll purchase some wicking from the local shop and try that, instead. I'm using resistance of 3.3 - 3.7 with an Innokin Itaste MVP. I find that if I turn it up any higher, I get a burnt taste. Thanks for your suggestions! I wish I was in Austin right now, it's my favorite city!

You have an MVP? Try it at about 5 watts.

If you put 3.7 volts on a 1.8 ohm coil, you're pushing 7.6 watts
If you put 3.7 volts on a 2.5 ohm coil, you're pushing 5.5 watts

Make it easy on yourself and just set the wattage instead of having to check your atomizer resistance everytime you change head, which could be every day.

I just tried it at 5.0 volts, and it was too harsh. I'm at 4.5 volts now and it seems pretty good. Thanks for the advice! Turning it up a little with the cotton wick seems to help.

I'm glad you pointed that out. I must have the MVP 1.0 because I can't change the watts, only the voltage...

Ah; ok; well generally speaking it looks like if you stay between 4 to 6 watts, you're in the comfortable zone for the casual vaper;

I tend to go for 5 watts.. lemme get that chart.

voltagechart-lg.jpg

look at the chart; look at the safe zone; look at where the 5.00 is. Smack in the middle of the safe zone.

So first you need to check your coil resistance; your mvp should give you that.

volts(squared)=watts x ohms
so volts = squarerootof(5 x ohms).

So
1.8 ohm ---- 3.0 volts
2.2 ohm ---- 3.3 volts
2.5 ohm ---- 3.5 volts

There is a solution to that too ;)

Little nub on the rubber insulator
a2ahagy4.jpg

Lop it off with a xacto knife, no more burny burny

Which coincidentally is the EXACT same insulator on an AGA-T2 and I-Atty center pin (both top and bottom)
Kv31_UserManual_03_zps5342ad3a.jpg

AGA Series Positive Post Insulators - 10 pack - Kidney Puncher <- 10 silicon replacement insulators, silicon doesn't burn like rubber either

I ordered some of these the other day, should be here tomorrow (I hope). I'm looking forward to trying them out. I got some of the ones from Lightning Vapes last week. They cost a lot more, and definitely have that rubbery taste. Soaked them overnight in baking soda and water, rinsed them really well and let them dry. Better, for sure. Usable, lol. They ruined a tank of juice before that.

Wow, thanks Edyle! This is awesome information!!! My MVP is definitely a 1.0 version, and it won't give me coil resistance, either. I'm a little peeved at the shop where I bought it, as I usually go to a different shop for my vaping gear and juice, but I went to a new shop that's closer, and it even cost $10 more than the MVP 2.0 at the shop I usually go to, but I figured it wasn't that big of a deal. I'm going back to the shop I purchased it at and see if they'll exchange it for the MVP 2.0 They probably won't, but it's worth a try. Being new to this, I never even thought to ask, nor did I know the differences in the models. They sold me an outdated model for $10 more! I'll never buy anything from them again. Thanks again for this awesome information! You rock, Edyle! :thumb:

That's the spirit; if they're on along your usual route I hope you pop in regularly and look around AND NEVER BUY A ....... THING!!! Just to remind them that stiffing a customer makes then think twice about handing over cash again even if they want the item.

you should get a cheap meter and check your coils because if you have a few you want to separate the lower ohms from the higher ohms so you know who's who until you get a VW; the MVP is only a battery anyway so you know it's going to die eventually and the next whatever you get you just make sure to get the VW of which all should be by then.

btw the Innokin SVD is about the same price as the Innokin MVP if I'm not mistaken. The svd is a battery tube; you replace the batteries.

You can get inexpensive ohm meters from fasttech but it takes a month to get, or a multifunction multimeter from harbor freight

Imperative to know the resistance of your coils especially if all you have is a variable voltage rig

MVP2 from 101vape is only $39.99 (well when they have em in stock, they sell out CRAZY fast)

Ha ha! Yep, that's what I'm going to do since I drive past that new rip-off shop every day! I may even pass nasty gas every time I walk out the door.

I think I'm going to go ahead and get another mod, and have a few in mind. The SVD that you mentioned, the Joye eVic, or some other large unit that I can fit an 18650 battery in. I like the looks of the Innokin 134, but it's a monster! I also looked at the Innokin VTR and I've read some good reviews of it here on this forum, but I did really like the looks of the Joyetech eVic. It's got a pretty decent display, too. Any suggestions out there? I thought for sure my next mod would be a Provari, but after seeing some of the others, there are a lot of nice devices on the shelves. Thanks again, Edyle!
