Hey everyone, today I received my Kanger Protank II from Sun Vapers. As soon as I put everything together and started vaping, it was vaping okay (not great, but okay), then after a while I started getting a metallic taste.

I watched a video from GrimmGreen and he recommended taking out all of the wicks, so I tried that and it flooded. So, I put back two of the three wicks, same metallic taste and a little flooding. Then I went to this website: How To: Fix Kanger EVOD leaking/gurgling issues | Deus Ex Vaporis, and tried doing what he suggested with the two caps (putting the second cap upside down on top of the other one). I started vaping and the same thing happened when I first started with this thing...it was okay for a while, then little by little started getting the metallic taste again. No flooding though.

I took off the Protank to avoid any further possible damage and went back to vaping with the eGo-C tank until I found a solution. By the way, my e-juice is 60/40 (PG/VG).

Help!

Eeeek. I got that taste a lot too with my protank one mini and Kanger's metal drip tips...I am not sure what they do with their plating but it tastes nasty to me as well....I usually swap it out for another drip tip and problem solved but on my mini protank I love I can't swap the tip on I soaked in PGA and cleaned it really well and then I try and warm it up....I find it takes some of that nasty cold metal taste out of it if I just shock sterilize it with PGA and keep it warm...I don't know if it will help you but after I do that and get a good vape going sometimes it disappears or I just stop noticing it...I know it's not a scientific solution or anything but it helps me...just trying to help another long...sorry if it doesn't help you...best of luck :) Sorry I don't have more of a scientific answer but sometimes the unconventional works

Sounds like you fiddled an awful lot with your new tank which wasn't really necessary I don't think. You probably could have just washed the tank out under warm water and got rid of whatever factory residue was causing the taste. And when you say you took out all the wicks, I hope you're not including the one inside the coil. My advice is just use your protank the way it was designed for a while before you start fiddling with everything and trying to change it. You COULD improve it by altering it but you can also totally mess it up as it seems you did. Just wash everything out, make sure everything is dry, put in a new head and try it again.

There was no wick inside the coil...it came with three loose wicks on top of the coil. :/

There has to have been a wick inside of the coil.. I can't imagine a way a head would get by Kanger that way considering the coils are wrapped around the wick and they end up pretty snug. Seems strange to me

Anyways,
Your best bet is to take a new head, take the metal post off, and remove 1 of the flavor wicks using tweezers. There should only be 2 flavor wicks on top of the coil, but sometimes there are 3. Leave 1 on top for sure, this should prevent flooding while allowing proper flow for your liquid. Set the wick you pulled aside, that way if it floods again you can replace it or switch it out with the one you left in. Replace the post, fill up the tank, let it sit for about 10 minutes and try it again.

If you don't feel like waiting, you can do what I do. Before replacing the post, put a few drops of liquid directly on the coil until the wicks are just saturated. Then let it sit for maybe 30 seconds.

Hope this helps and good luck!

See, this is how it looks like with all three wicks in place (how it came shipped):

and this is how it looks like when I remove all three wicks that were resting on top of the coil:

Is that how it's supposed to look?

yepper, that's plenty odd !

and it WAS working like that ?

the 'coils' are even turned the wrong way
which would make me think the wire legs would have shorted out inside

have you now seen what a normal one looks like (do you have spares ?)

for the metallic taste, a good wash (even a 5min soak in wht vinegar)
should clear that up...

don't try an out think the kanger engineers
the protank and all kanger bcc's work good as designed by kanger

Hi RollDanTide

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have a Protank2 and Protank2 Mini. On both I found that strange metallic taste. I asked my local supplier what I should do and he suggested I use the plastic drip tip he actually taped to the box. He says that quite a few people have complained about that in the past so he now just tapes an inexpensive plastic drip tip to all the Protank units he ships.

I tried it and was amazed. No metal taste interfering with the flavour. I also quite like it because it fits tighter.

That has helped me on the metallic taste issue.

Reinforces what @zacherychristopher posted a few posts ago.

Hope it helps.

I just got a Protank 2 as well and they put on a drip tip and I have NO problem at all. they even allowed me to change the tank to a colored one. I love my tank so much...I was filling my other one about 2-3 times a day because I vape a TON. Hope you can figure it all out.

Oh dear no. That's not how it's supposed to look. Those coils are normally wrapped around something; they're not just sitting there dry :/ In fact, I've never seen anything like that. Try a new head!

That's pretty much the same type of reaction Sun Vapers had when I sent them the pic. I really wish they would inspect these thing before sending them out, but I understand that they don't want to break the seal on the packages.

Yeah, I'm guessing that the coil was just heating up the wicks that were resting on top of it and it was working (badly, but working nevertheless) that way.

Yep, I did alleviate the metallic-tasting vape I was getting by using a plastic drip tip. I forgot how I even got it, but I was sure glad I had it stored away. Thanks!

Thanks, Jenn. I'm slowly, but surely figuring all of this stuff out. These boards and YouTube channels like GrimmGreen and PBusardo really help.
