kanger protank mini 2

Hi, I'm new to the thread here and i wasn't able to find exactly what I needed to in the threads so I have a question.
My boyfriend got me into vaping after finding out that I was a smoker for many years. I was doing good on disposables and I loved the flavor but hated how short their life was.
I found the ce4 with ego battery that you could refill with your own flavor of ejuice and fell in love with it. The only problem I had was that you had to keep refilling and refilling or the wicks would burn and cause a bad burnt taste and on top of that after about two weeks of use it was a pure dud even though the website stated it would last allot longer than that.
I recently bought a kanger protank mini 2 with the ego threading and have been using it on my ego battery I got from the ce4.
I do not have a connection problem or a draw problem (its a bit airy for me) at all but what I am getting is a very bad burnt taste as well as the tank was feeling a bit warm to the touch after one or two hits. At first I thought it was my eliquid so I bought a different brand that smelt wonderful and let it age as well so I wouldnt get that chemical taste. The eliquid I used was banana nut bread 60 pg/40 vg
I traded out the coils and even bought no nic thinking maybe it could just me not being used to the ejuice or I was doing something wrong.
Nope. I still get a bad metal burnt taste no matter what I tried. I can taste the flavor as I am pulling in but it is such a dry hit it almost makes me want to go back to the regular cigs. I love the design of the kanger protank mini 2 as it has a bottom coil and i dont have to keep refilling but the taste is just horrible.
Is it the battery I am using? Or should I just go with an entirely new device? I have thought of spending money and getting myself a vapor 4 life starter kit with the dual tank. I have no problems dealing with ejuice I actually have fun with it but I have yet to have a good tasting experience.

Any suggestions will certainly help.
I am also on very tight budget and right now it seems almost cheaper just to go buy smokes if I cant get anything to work which is sad because i just bought a ton of wonderful juices.

Welcome to ECF! Sweet and/or dark juices can gunk up a coil pretty quickly, that can cause them to taste burnt or nasty. Dry hits can happen if the wick doesn't stay or get wet quickly enough. When you fill your tank, let it sit for a few minutes, at least, then do primer puffs. Don't push the button, but act like you're puffing it. If you get a hint of your flavor, then go ahead and vape it.

Dry burning coils is an easy fix for gunking. Go to YouTube and type in Dry burning a Protank. You'll see lots of videos that'll show you how. Some people soak them in vodka instead, then rinse and let dry.

A coil head can last varied amounts of time, depending on usage and type of liquid being used. I've had to let flavors go because they gunked up so badly.

Hopefully this helps some. There should be a ton of replies for you, no doubt. Again, welcome to the forum :)

I tried to take my first one appart to remove the wick and it just didnt work. I would rather not have to hassle with any of that tbh. getting a different coil would be fine but the kit i bought for the tank came with two types of ohm coils.. the first one didnt overheat but the taste was still just as horrible. and this one is doing both.

: / wish i knew what the problem was

yes I do understand that and i have watched videos.. I did the prime puffs and what not and the juices i have arent that dark.. infact the first one I had was dark and worked better! .. the thing is is I just put a new coil on and let the juice set for a few hours while i was at work. when I came home the first night of vaping was good but the next morning was horrible after a few puffs. It couldnt have gunked up that fast!

I had a lemon creme puff flavor that I absolutely loved. I was stunned how quickly it'd gunk my coil. The flavor wick suggestion might be your best bet, really. You can actually pull those out without having to remove the top tube piece. Tweezers are a vaper's best friend, lol.

My preference with my protanks is a 2.2 (ish) ohm coil. The 1.8ohm heats up faster. I take a longer, slow draw. The 2.2 or even a 2.5 suits me.

I absolutely love my PT2 mini. I'd suggest giving it a good cleaning, the whole tank. Then install a new coil head. Before you use it, pull the stem off the coil and drip some liquid onto the wick itself. Replace the stem, then give it a try. It really sounds like you arent getting the wick saturated before you try to vape.

Good luck!

With pretty much all Pro Tanks, I always pop the stem off the coil first and remove one of the 2 "flavor wicks" that lie on top of the coil.

Especially with ejuice blends above 50/50 PG to VG, the extra wick inhibits smooth wicking to the coil which can result in a burnt hit.

The added flavor wick sometimes is better with thinner, high PG ratio blends (80/20 - 70/30) but to me does not perform so well with the thicker ejuice blends.

BTW, I do not see this as a "knock" on the pro tank coils. With so many variations of ejuice blends out there, no one coil is ideal for all blends. After you do this once or twice, it really only takes a few seconds to pop the stem off and remove one flavor wick.
