THAT my friend, is a very good question! If you look around the forums for the answer to that, you will find a few thousands answers and, according to the authors, they are all the correct one... hehehe

I'll just tell you that in MY experience, it took a little bit (some may say a lot) of trial and error... testing different sizes with different wire gauges... and different numbers of wraps. I vividly remember trying sizes and resistance level that some people swear it is the best ever setup you could ever build, and turns out that I really didn't like it, or it doesn't work for my setup...

look around and learn from all, but be sure you build a coil for your setup... mouth to lung or direct to lung, makes a big difference.. ..

I ramble too much...

What does the diam determine... well for one thing, bigger diameter allows you to put more length of wire in the same width of coil, so increasing the resistance... also allows you to feed in thicker cotton... but to tell you what diameter is best for you... I could only tell you that my current setup is what is working for me today.. .. hehehe

lots of people here say: YMMV... Your Mileage May Vary... and they are correct.

R

Try close to billions! LOL But your answer is also honest and correct. Too many of us, myself included have had to struggle with trial and error.

Thanks. So what does the diameter of the coil determine?

The resistance you select or target for your build determines the heat energy output in (W)atts based on power in (V)oltage or Amps supplied by your battery or variable power device. These are the two things you have control over — Res and Watts (a range).

The Mini I think is rated something like 7-30W. After vaping it along with the Sub for a bit now I'd say the sweet spot is likely somewhere in the middle, between the 15W I posted the pic of earlier and about 20W. Let's call it 18 for ha-ha's

Take a look at Coil Toy - Online calculator for e-cigarette resistance coil building and consider .8Ω as a target which is the sweet spot for a great many of the APV's out there (broadest range of power delivery), Ohm's Law Calculator should tell you if that 18W target is consistent with the output of your APV. Check that vs. Mod range | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators to see how your mod compares to the power requirement. Plug in your resistance in coil toy and vary the wind diameters to see your alternatives. I can tell you the internal post spread parallel to the coil is about 2.2mm, overall 3.2 end-to-end.

Hope this info is helpful to point you in the direction of a baseline target. If not, hail us.

Good luck.

:)

That's weird, maybe there are some burs on the threads from cutting them on the stick or something. Not really possible to clean those with a metal brush. I have been unscrewing it and screwing it back on several times tonight and it is becoming smoother and easier now. I sure am glad the iStick 30w has stainless steel threads!

So what should appear today in the mail..... My mini. Oh happy days. Great little tank. Using the stock 1.2 occ coil head and man it's awesome. No issues with wicking no burned hits. Helluva tank honestly. Mine came with the new tan peek insulators and will try my hand with rayon for my wicking material and I'll see what happen. So far so good.

Sorry...I'm an idiot. Staring at the 26 Kanthal when I typed it...used 28. Must not have had enough coffee today.

Ha! Makes more sense.... not the idiot part... hehehehe if you have tweezers or very small pliers, you can compress you coils... a little like this:

It's a kayfun but the principle is the same...

BUT! be sure not to press the fire button while touching it! dont hold it too too long

cheers

I plan to try out the RBA using the supplied coil and cotton this weekend. So just out of curiosity what should I expect in terms of flavor, vapor production when going from the 1.2 OCC to a 0.5 in the RBA?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi, I'm curious also :) let us know how it goes ? I would like to know how they compare. I haven't tried the RBA at 0.5 yet (I'm running it at 1.0) ... but I've run the OCC 1.2 coils a bit on it. so far, just loving it!

Cheers

on the 0.5 rba coil i used about 1/3 the width of the rayon width/diameter, i tried 1/4 and it wasnt enough as i got burnt/dry hits, u need more rayon(thickness wise not lenght) compared to cotton, ymmv

I hope I don't get moved for asking this here. It still pertains to the Subtank Mini though!!

So I ordered a mech mod clone a couple weeks ago after finding a deal on vapingcheap.com. This will be my first, and I'm planning on initially using it with my subtank mini. Anyway, so I ordered Efest IMR 18650 2500mah 35A batteries to go with it. Are these safe to use with the subtank? They won't be overtaxing the rba or OCC will they?

I'm sorry guys, but why would you even consider buying that thing anyway??? I'm referring to the MVP3.0 of course. I watched indoorsmokers and pbusardo's review for it and I just don't get it. It's what, 60-70 bucks?! for a 30 Watt mod that is HUGE by today's standards. Why don't you just get an iStick 30w for freakin $35. I don't know what Innokin was thinking with this one but it looks like they are falling behind in the game. Isn't the Cloupor mini around the same price and just a bit bigger than the iStick? That MVP is the biggest 30W mod in 2015. There are 50W mods smaller than that thing. And why the high price point?? Watch Pbusardo's review, tanks don't even sit flush on it! You have to hold the up/down buttons for 2 full seconds before you can even adjust anything and it doesn't lock your settings! Who would spend $60 on this thing I don't get it!!

How about because its my money and I can spend it as I see fit. :) $60 is chump change compared to what I used to spend on cigarettes. I've got the green light to buy whatever I want on vape supplies. My wife is just happy I no longer smoke.

Fegbri - Where can i find pics of your wraps? I'd love to check them out!

Here are 2. One is a black carbon cutout, the other is white vinyl decal with clear carbon fiber on top. image.jpg

To be clear, I don't have a company or anything, just love to do it for fun and on the side to help fellow vapors. I have a vinyl cutter and tons of different vinyl, plus printable vinyl.

It is certainly your money and I understand that. I just honestly don't see how this particular model is a value at all. Convince me! Lol

Track record of being a solid box. Reliable brand. You know what you are getting. There is value in that.
It doesn't take much reading to find people having issues with various newer smaller box mods in that forum section. it's offtopic to discuss it here but just wanted to comment.

The istick 50w is coming out for around 50 bucks...just sayin.
Anyway do any of you have any 18650 batt advice from my previous post to use with my subtank?

Got my Subtank Mini in the mail today and so far am really enjoying the 1.2 ohm coil! Have only ran 1 tank of juice through it so far but I look forward to many more.

I ordered through myvaporstore.com and the RBA has the clear insulator so I am not sure if I will ask for a replacement from Kanger, order one or just use it as is.
Randal, I am surprised, I got mine from MyVaporStore and it had the tan/brown insulator. I did email them first and asked if it was the new 'peek' insulator and they responded that it was. Sure enough it was.

If I were you I would email them and ask for a replacement insulator. Just my 2cents.
