I used silica up until the beginning of the year in most of my tank atties but switched over to rayon when I started putting micro like contact coils in them. I like silica just fine but only for hand wraps.

I have an Ekowool wick with a mesh core in my Origenny and Nextgen. There is a Kraken waiting in my mailbox that will get some Ekowool & Mesh love tonight when I get home.

I never tried Ekowool in the KFL or KF4, I'll have to try it and see how it works. Rayon is usually the wick of choice for all my non-genny devices.

Isn't ekowool and silica the same thing basically? I use Ekowool Style Braided, Hollow Silica Cord in my KF4's. That is what the vendor calls it.

This is from the KF4 that I dropped last night. It had 4 refills at the time of breakage. It has 4 pieces of 2mm ekowool/silica wrapped with 30g kanthal.

Do you trim them so the ends point down onto the deck holes or just lay them on the deck?

Do you dry burn and rise under water or just put in a new wick after the gunk builds up.

Only a specific kind, I can see the conflict now over the last pon in the box...

The ends go down and fill the deck. Covering the holes. When it gets dirty looking, I rinse with water and dry burn. I go over 20 refills without rebuilding.

Nothing really, though some don't care for the taste. I'm unfortunately one of those, though I liked rayon a lot at first; just gradually came to be able to taste the rayon, and really dislike it. Some say that about cotton, which to me has no taste at all. *shrug*

Rayon works amazing and I have the 3lb box! I just like checking out the other materials. Wicking the Origenny with Rayon is a PiTA having to take the tank off and on. Ekowool and Mesh is the ticket for it.

I am going to try some Ekowool in the Rose too!
