I have mine rest on the deck. I leave them fluffy and dry when I pun the lower
part of the chimney on. I then push the middle of the wick back with a pin to give some room for the juice to come up. I then prime them two drops
per side and repeat til they're drowned and let sit for a couple of minutes. I fill the tank up only til I see juice in the window. the less juice the better they wick. the wicks take a while to break in and wick so I do two primer puffs then a powered puff. I do a couple of those and let it sit for a couple of minutes and repeat a few times .all at ten watts . i will then cover the hole an do a puff and let it sit for at least a half an hour..nonce I get a good bubble with every puff, and the flavor comes through I'm done.
sounds good, but I'm trying to quit rushing the process and prematurely toast part of the wick.
hope this helps.

Did a new build, this time used more cotton. Seems to be wicking better no more burnt taste. However now I'm getting very muted flavor, sort of the wet cotton T-shirt taste.

If I do some hard pulls to prime it before drawing the flavor improves a bit. Any more tips for this?

How close should the tails be to the channels? I'm confused as to whether they should sit on top of the channels to wick as juice comes through or if the tails should be back and rest in a pool of juice away from the channels

Sometimes, I get low vapor after I dry burn and replace a wick. Most of the time I get good vapor in a few puffs, but even when the vapor is low on a new wick I start to get heavy vapor after a few minutes. Wicks do have to break in to achieve optimum vapor.

Then, there are times when I have to break it down and re-wick. That's not often, but it does happen. It can be as simple as a wick tail getting pushed sideways when you install the bottom chimney section. The wick can get pushed as you screw on the chimney in a way that makes it lose contact with the deck. That requires disassembly to get to the wick.

That problem is why we push the wick back away from the edge. If you don't it can get flipped up from rotating the deck. Put the bottom chimney on first and look down into it. Use a hypodermic needle or a toothpick to straighten the wick and push it down on both sides to make it touch the deck before you screw on the chimney top. If the wick isn't touching the deck, the juice won't be absorbed into the wick.

I had 2 built the same but 1 KFL had a thicker juice in it and it was giving me fits.
But you guys probably dont experience that with your superior skills. :)

We all learned from our own errors and from comparing results and techniques. There's power in numbers when you are trying to figure out something new. On forums you get to tap into the experience of those who have fussed with it and finally figured it all out.

I recently got another KFL. Ive always had the genuines ( since the first one came out), but this one is of "unknown" origins, but I suspect its an Ephro KFL v2. It has 2 air holes on side of base and 2 screws for AFC on the underside. I ve looked at the Svoemesto site and dont see anything like this , so I figure.

Anyway, this is the first KFL that has worked consistently for me ever. I dont know if its very different inside vs the genuine, or why it wicks so perfectly. Maybe its the dual air ?

All I know is that I LOVE it. Ive always had frustration from KFLs. It was always a 50/50 chance that it either worked or had dry hits or leaks.

I love it so much I ordered what looks like the same, in black, from Ebay. Its coming from Malaysia, so I hope it is an Ephro. I messaged the seller and he assured me it is, fingers crossed. It works and looks wonderful on my Provari 2.5 with flat top conversion, that I had to have a black one for my other P 2.5 flat top.

I dont seem to find the Ephro version w dual air holes and afc control under the base in black unless its over 40 bucks. I see the SS all over for as low as 12.

Any one else like this version?

I have a good friend that ONLY uses KFL+( genuines ) for years. She owns 6?

She uses ALL VG and she has never had problems. I could never understand it as like I posted all my previous experiences were so frustrating. I know a lot of people that use heavy or all VG love it and have no problems. I wish I could see how they do it.

If it's an EhPro KFL Lite V2 + (sure wish they'd have come up with a better name!), yes, dual air intake. IMO the best of the breed.

OP- what PG/VG ratio juice do you use? Could be the juice is just too thick to feed.
40% VG

Think I've got my dry hit problems solved. Thanks for everyone's help! For me it was getting an even amount of cotton on both sides, and positioning the tails so they're pretty much identical. Otherwise what was happening is one side of the coil was drying up and one side was wicking properly. I finally learned this by looking at my wick after a few days to see it was only gunked up on one side.

I'm no master yet I always have to readjust the wick tails after building and vaping a bit. Can be a bit frustrating but when it works it works well.

I was wondering if there's any RTAs similar to the KFL+ but not so tough to master wicking so I ordered a KF mini 3 and a KF5 just to be safe before I become a slave to the PA vape tax (fingers crossed :/ )

Things are getting strange. I visited the Vapor Source site in Colorado looking for Kayfun clones on sale and was presented with a popup that told me that due to FDA Deeming regulations they are not allowed to sell products online. They have a list of brick and mortar sites to choose from.

Here's the popup text.

Are these the Ephro with dual air intake and dual AFC under the deck?
It does not say in the description, so that I do not know.
It's at their site, under the clearance section.
Not sure if links are okay here or not.
If they're not, I'll take it down...

Went to order the mister e liquid kfl clone and it wants the last 4 of my SSN. Not crazy about giving those numbers out :/

Thank the FDA.

Required now is traceable age verification. Some of the companies that do that will need those numbers, some won't. Depends on which outfit the vendor has "hired" / contracted with to do the task...
