All,

I've got a twisted 28g "dual" coil setup on my kayfun that ohms out at around 1 ohm. I'm using e-fest 18650 batteries and it's just taking forever to heat up the coil to get a good vape. Do you all think my coil setup is to blame, or just the battery getting old / putting out enough amps? I'm contemplating scrapping it and just going with a 1.3 ohm single micro coil for better heat up times and a similar vape. Maybe it's time to invest in a mod that will push upwards of 20 amps? Maybe the new Sony/Panasonic 18650's would help with more current delivery to my setup?

Thanks in advance!

I think the problem is the thickness of your wire. I never ventured into twisted since for me, I didn't see a need for it. I consider 28 gauge too slow to heat up unless you're going 1ohm or lower by itself. To power that massive coil you'll need a looot of power, or a substantial warm up time.

I mainly use 30gauge for all my builds, unless its a geny, which I use 28.

In a Kayfun type, my go to is a 5/64" micro with 30gauge at 1.4ohms, or a 1/6" double barrel with 30 gauge at .8-1ohm. Great flavor and vapor and super fast response time.

Just got home - sorry for the long wait Gonzi and thank you for your reply.

Now that you mention it, the wire is pretty beefy. I would have to push some serious wattage to get it to heat up fast enough for it to be effective.

Also, I misspoke about the coil resistance, it is 1.4, not 1.0 as I previously stated. I hooked it up to my MVP2.0 and put the wattage to 11 and I'm still getting slow heat up times. I'll have to get some 30 or 32 gauge wire and give it a shot. If anything, I can always rebuild the coil and keep the old one if I decide to get a DNA20/30 equipped mod to pump out some raw wattage.

Guess I'm going to drain the tank and hook it up with a 1.5 Micro...I usually wrap my wire around one of those directional red tips that you get from a can of WD-40 or other silicone sprays (unused of course). They seem to be the best for me, at the moment.

have you tried using a micro driver to wrap around? got the idea from SxD and that works wonders for me... guess I'm just thinking those straw things are super flimsy. And yeah twisted 28g has to take quite a bit of power to heat up, also I've personally never had a good experience with efest but could have just been me. After that I switched to Sony VTC4's and haven't had a power issue yet (but not trying to power a paperclip coil either)

No plans to go sub-ohm. There isn't any need for me to do that. I get awesome vapor production out of this thing as well as flavor. I re-wrapped a coil an this thing is heating much better now. I still think I'll invest in some 30 or 32 gauge soon for instant heat instead of a one second time to heat up when taking my draws.

PM me your address, I have some 32 left over that I don't use anymore and a spool of 30 that I can send you a few feet of to try out.
