An RDA is on a whole other level when it comes to vapor production, flavor, warmth, throat hit, and how you are pretty much in complete control of how you can dial these individual factors in to your exact liking depending on the coil build and airflow. Capable of everything from smooth puffing, to flavor chasing, to lung busting and throat ripping.

That being said, I would find it really hard to believe anyone not prefer an RDA. Once you start vaping a properly set-up RDA, it's pretty much impossible to outdo that.

The only thing the Kayfun dishes out that is advantageous over an RDA is the tank convenience. However, using a bottom feeder setup like the REO makes that issue a moot point for a lot of us. :D

I think Kayfuns are just okay. Nothing more than a great clearomizer in my opinion.

Cheers

IMHO, the choice between a kayfun-style rebuildable tank atomizer VS a rebuildable dripper depends upon what resistance range you vape at, which means it will make a difference if you are using a regulated mod or a mechanical mod.

I get much better performance using a rebuildable dripper at sub-ohm with a mech mod, with an airier draw with nice flavor and superior vapor production. Of course, I can't use sub-ohm builds on a regulated mod, and the standard resistance coil builds' performance are inferior to sub-ohm builds in my experience on a mech

However, I get a very satisfying, flavorful vape with the conveniences of a tank with my KFL+ on my Provari. There are many times when I am out and about (driving) when I don't want to carry a bottle of juice around with me and drip every few minutes, so this is when I use my KFL/Provari duo.

I couldn't agree with the OP more. I can't take a Kayfun out of the house for fear of a burnt wick. SO might as well use a brasss monkey dripper. Better flavor and vape.

If I could get a kayfun build reliable enough to leave the house 13 hours I'de be in hog heaven saving money on aerotech coils. I'm close but not there.

I went through the same process. DO NOT GET RID OF YOUR KAYFUNS!! I went into a 6 month dripping frenzy, and my Kayfuns sat idle. Now I use the Kayfuns more than anything, just so nice for carrying around and for on the go. I still use my drippers, at home, during movies, or web surfing. But I definitely have fallen back in love with my Kayfuns, still a very satisfying vape!!

I have 3 KFL and they are nothing but a PITA, a half another a hope and a prayer the wick doesn't burn. The aerotank Mega has just as good flavor. I haven't completely given up on the KFL but they aren't for everyone as this forum implies. If I'm home and have time to .... around with the equipment a dripper is far superior. I still have hope I'll unlock the secrete of the non wick burning KFL until then its $1 a day for aerotank coils.

I agree with the OP. The KFL isn't exactly a great portable device, you never know when the cotton in the coil is going to burn (I suck at building KFL.) For home use I found that the brass monkey drippers are fantastic. You can buy premade 2 ohm coils from fast tech and along with strips of cotton pads I can build a dripper in no time. The brass monkey is fantastic because it has 4 posts all with set screw holes. And the blats you get from a 1 ohm brass monkey leaves the KFL in the dust, so much more like an analog only with good flavor, and they work great with micro coils and nets. The KFL has issues I think wicking nets, you have to space the coils and it hurts the flow.

round and round she goes. this does not only seem to be a technically changing hobby, but a personal tastes, and skillz evolution as well. bought a RDA a few weeks ago, loved it at home for a week, but still need a portable. have a nautilus and mini nautilus as well, then got a a VS and R91. I got lucky, only took a few builds to get the wicking pretty consistent.. but it can still occasional semi dry. started messing with my mech Cartel/Tobh clones last night.. liking it again... but not quite ready to go out and about with it... bought a reo.. thats been a bit of a learning curve as well.. but definitely learning to enjoy it for its elegance of simplicity.

I'm surprised at the few number of people having issues with their KFL and burning wicks.

Admittingly, there is a slight learning curve in knowing how much wick (especially cotton or cullucotton Rayon) to use, but I can't say that I've come across the burnt wick issues in my KFL+. There's a fine line on not using enough wick and not using too much wick in the coil. You don't want to strangulate the wick by using too much in the coil, yet you want to use enough so that you are not drying it out with too little cotton.

Above is a typical example of my organic cotton or Rayon wick in a KFL. Last wick change I added the "cotton nest" method (see below) of adding more cotton around the entire coil (not in the coil). Do not block the air hole below the coil. So far the wicking has been outstanding.

Do you vape nets, that's where the issues arise, the coil has to be just right, has little to do with the wick layout. Your pictures show way to much wick stuffed in the coil to work with many nets.

Nope, I don't vape NETS. I've never had an issue with my coils with my e-liquids. My current microcoil has been in use for nearly 8 weeks and is still going strong. I dry burn with every wick change (every 3 - 4 days). It took some time playing around with the amount of cotton/rayon to get what works best FOR ME with MY e-liquids.

Hey Bad, do you use a mixture of cotton and rayon for your KFL wick set up? Sounds like almost a reverse fluff method, interesting. Would love to know how you set that nest up.

I just started using the nest method from ECF member crxess's blog -- link in the my first post above. I'm currently on my first wick with that method. I'm still experimenting; I used organic cotton for in the coil, and used the cellucotton for the nest. I'll probably mix it up again for the next wick in a couple of days. You'll probably read of my overall impressions in the future.

Kayfuns are all about the wick. Sorry, but if you are burning coils without being empty something is wrong with the build :(
I went through the same process.
I have one or four, between one 3.1 and my three 91%, depending on how you look at it. Took me a couple of months of them being my all day vape to perfect it.
Even with me really being a genesis diehard with no Kayfun bias (i have almost stopped using them) have to say that any problems with a burnt wick are not a fault of the atty.
Its not a bad thing.
