Hmm, that's cool. I've actually just been using the silicone and haven't got any burnt grommet taste, but I also discovered that the grommets weren't my problem... AFAIK it's just been my crapping wick making skills haha. Recently made some wicks with ekowool and no burny nasty taste, but crappy wicking.... FRUSTRATED AS HELL haha.

Is the coil too tight around the ekowool?make sure your not strangling the wick as it's hollow, it should be able to move through the coil snugly. Also are the wraps on your coil close together and evenly spaced this was my biggest problem when I started making coils. Also have you tried using organic cotton balls? Much easier to make a good working wick. It really wicks well:)

I think you mean silica (wick). If we were using silicone grommets instead of rubber we wouldn't have any burnt taste either. :D

Actually, I meant silicone grommets that I cobbled together with the tubing I have.

Also, I did put something into the ekowool while wrapping so I didn't choke it, but to no avail. Perhaps my spacing was too close like you said. I've since had success with cotton again. It seems the wick was too tight. Now when I'm having trouble with a wick, I just pull a few fibers out with tweezers until it shrinks enough to move ok in the coil.

Apologies, I was writing in too many similar threads and lost the context here. Just re-read this thread to re-orient and you are the guy I owe MANY THANKS to for putting me on to the silicone tube idea. I found some the correct size on eBay and it's working great. http://www.ebay.com/itm/290562623629?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Glad you got your wick problem worked out. So no more burny tastes, or... ??

Glad that worked for you! That's great!

Yeah, no more burny tastes... Except when the wick got old of course.
