I'm ...... and baffled. My brands new KFL came in and I had it working perfectly on the Stingray. Until I tried to remove it. One of the bottom screws, most likely the airflow adjust, seems to have backed out on me. It's now seated in the airflow channels on the Stingray's top cap. I can freely move the KFL base back and forth as far as the screw and channel will allow. The worst part is that there is only about half a thousandths gap maximum between the two.

I have them in the freezer now and may try to force it off. If I was to destroy one of the pieces to sperate them which would be the cheapest/easiest to replace? What else can I attempt? I'm terribly upset.

I'm guessing the Phantom Brass inner ring is Press fit and will not let the outer air ring turn with the kayfun?

Keep everything upside down while attempting to detach. maybe gravity will give you a break and reduce drag.(part shift)

Keep a separating pressure as you turn the pieces. Pulling each away from the other.

Best of luck with it.

rubber/silicone gloves and twist, if nothing works (nothing that won't damage or potentially damage the parts) then I would personally get a pair of goo pliers that would grab a hold of kfl base, but make sure to put a good, thick, pieces of dense rubber in between the teeth and the ss of the base, same for the top cap and then twist. Rubber will create enough tension, without having to scratch and dent the metal.

P.s.

my KFL constantly like to get stuck on both of my mods, nemesis and poldiac, with poldiac top cap I used rubber gloves, but when I had none I just wrapped it in cling film and that did the trick.

There are tools at Home Depot that use a rubber belt that are meant to unlock/unfreeze pipes. It grips and gives you enough torque to unlock basically anything threaded together. I bought one when one of my old mods completely locked up. Funny thing is, I use it a lot more than I thought I would... And not just for my troublesome mods :)

Just got back from HD with a couple small strap wrenches and some extra butane. The strap wrenches allowed me to increase the gap between the two enough to slip some dental floss between them. It still would not let go. The floss went in and I twisted it around the 510 connection and it just popped loose. I was so relieved. I can only attribute it to a friction fit. Both pieces being precision milled seems to be the only reason. I already took some 600 grit paper to the bottom of my lovely KFL to rough it up a bit. Some of the etching was affected but I'd rather not have to go through that again. Friction is a real PITA sometimes. I'm so relieved that both pieces suffered minimal scarring through the process.

If it is friction fit, then why is it freely spinning? Mine is doing the same thing. I really want this fixed. i will go to HD tomorrow and see if this same method works for me. It just blows my mind that it wasnt the screw as you predicted. I was sure it was the screw. Im super bummed because I work all day tomorrow and will not be able to use my rig until later. I hope this works for me. I really like this thing.

Well this just happened to my black copper stingray and kayfun To bad I destroyed the finish on the stingray. Well try dental floss hope it works

If the dental floss doesn't work or you can't get it into the tight space, try the receipt paper method I discovered. It was a long shot but it worked. I don't use the stock 510 cap on my Stingray anymore. I had an elcigart airflow adapter and got a hybrid kit from fusion mods and mad a custom 510 cap out of them. I lost my airflow screw but I ordered a replacement parts kit so I could another one as I recently made the mistake of setting up the coil too close the intake and had a little leakage which obviously came out the bottom.

Holy **** sticks.... after 2 days of owning my Stingray Black/copper and my Kayfun lite + v2, the first time i ever try my Kayfun on this mod and BAAAAAAAAM.... locked shut! Same problem as all of you guys... that damned AFC screw. So i thought id post here detailing how i fixed it incase someone else has been having this problem.......After some research i tried everything i could think of... i even considered using pressurized air to somehow push that screw back up...

What worked with me, surprisingly was a hammer! I tried everything listed here, Freezing, Dental Floss, brute force , Elbow grease, pliers, that jar opener thingie........ you name it, i tried it.

You can try any of the methods above they might work for you, for the dental floss, i wet it, fully saturating it with water then i rigged it to the door handle so i can torque it without using my hands. i got the damn dental floss inside over 4 times, i could feel it slip under that screw... tried simultaniesly pulling the topcap w/ the floss while turning the base... still no luck... After much suffering and agony, i tried the brute force method using pliers and tablecloth and rubber on the teeth, still not enough grip to pop it open.... and then a stroke of genius......

With just the topcap and the kayfun base, i covered everything with some table cloth for padding, with the topcap underside facing me, then gently kept tapping on the padded surface quickly, kinda like how a bump key would open a lock from light tapping of a hammer......it helps if you actually do all this on a bed or a soft surface to absorb the shock. and them Boooooooooooom pops out like butter, with minimal damage....****ING STOKED !

Hope this helps someone having this same issue, i just saved myself around $80 dollars :) Good luck and be patient.. it can be done!

Thread(s) like this one are the reason my KFL will never meet my Stingray. I don't want to deal with the headache I have now read about more than twice. Even being someone who is a born tinkerer and uses hand tools on a daily basis in the workplace, this match-up will never happen on my watch!

That said, IMHO, even if this problem didn't exist, I still probably would not put my KFL on my Stingray due to finishes not matching.

Just happened to me. I've tried every solution but I am unable to get them apart. It is definitely the airflow screw in my case. At this point I am willing to sacrifice the kayfun to save the stingray, but I don't even have a solution of that at this point. Tried: floss, paper, pliers, hammer, freeze, jar opener, gloves. Any other ideas?

If you use a kayfun and have airflow cuts in your top cap, either remove the airflow screw or use some tape to cover it.

Getting it off safely, I can only suggest what others have suggested or try to get string around the airflow screw and try to get the screw to turn in enough to get the Atty off.

This is a known issue, the kayfun should come with a warning.

Good luck.

I finally gave up. And ordered a hybrid stingray cap and a Russian 91 instead. Thanks for all the advice though. I couldn't even get floss in it was so tight. I knew that screw could shift (and this kayfun was particular bad for that), but it never occurred to me it would lock like that on the stingray. Live and learn I guess. The Russian is on the side though, so it shouldn't have this issue, right?
