I'm runnin a couple of these with sub ohm coils, if you wick correctly, you won't have a problem, most newbes get in trouble using too much cotton, it chokes the coil and voila, dryburn (personally, I use hemp fiber in a vertical coil, so nothing through the coil, just around it)
True, but I also think a lot of folks new to the Kayfun system are using too little for their builds as well because of the taboo. Maybe this is a good thing that we're discussing it. Folks who like low ohm coils and a hotter vape build should use less wick to assist in the faster juice depletion, and folks who like the 'standard res' range of ohms can use 'more' wick to cut down on the leaking issues. Makes sense :)

There is one variable that makes each user have different results, even with the same build.
The type of draw they use. A harder draw pulls more juice to the lower deck for the wick to absorb. (because of the lower pressure created in the coil area)
A softer draw pulls less juice to the lower deck for the wick to absorb.

I have tried several wick and coil configurations and suffered every issue possible. In the end I found Truman's wick to be the best for my needs. I have also found that I like my Russian to run around 1.6 ohms on a Nemmy w/o kick. I also like the same setup on my eVic and have found excellent results across a wide range of VW settings so IMHO it seems like a nice all around and forgiving setup. My coil is a 5/32 micro at a 45 degree angle about 2mm above the deck. I wound up using a little more cotton wick through the coil than I thought, but thinned it out in the wells. Tuck the legs in snug to the bottom of the well so they do not touch the channels. I modified his setup a little bit, in that I run a little wick from both sides to run over the top of the coil. Instead of running a single leg across the top of the coil I run both legs in an X across the top of the coil, loosely tucking the end between the coil and posts.

FWIW I take long slow drags and like some restriction in airflow so this may not work for you. But in my case the flavor is tremendous, the vapor is warm but not hot, my clouds are decent but not like my RDA or Aqua, I have no burned taste and no leaking or gurgling issues (aside from my initial fill up; I just can't seem to get a "perfect" refill).

Why? What do ohms have to do with wicking, please enlighten me

I may be wrong in my assumption; but the lower the load, the hotter the coil. The hotter the coil the more quickly the liquid gets vaporized, requiring a quicker wick. If it is cooler, wick speeds are more forgiving.

I have, in my limited experience, found that higher loads seem to suffer less wicking issues.

You have the right idea, but you have your loads mixed up a bit. High ohms = low load, low ohms = high load. Sounds funny but makes sense when you think about it.

Actually as an electrical engineer I can say that isn't correct. High resistance means high load, and vice versa.

What works for me (may not work for you) is to use enough cotton so it pulls through the coil with a slight resistance. Not much at all. I think someone said it shouldn't be too dense and I completely agree. Almost wispy. I trim the tails a little shorter than the width of the base, then wet them. Push them up and screw the bottom part of the chimney on. Then, I gently push them straight down directly to the channels. No laying them on the deck for me. I'll even go under the cotton with a mini screwdriver and push it against the inner wall of the chimney to make sure it's over the channel. I have tried many different methods and while some have produced good results, this one works the best for me.

This is exactly what works for me every time.

That's what I shoot for as well. I usually let it soak for a couple of hours before vaping as well. I wick so loose that I can sometimes get a hot spot if I vape it before allowing the cotton to swell.

Besides dry hits, another way to tell if you need to cut back is when you go to replace the wick. Naturally, with the coil gunk and the cotton swelled it's going to come out harder than it went in, but it should still pop out without distorting the coil.
