Kick on a Sigelei #20 very finicky

I recently made the jump to mechs after using only regulated devices, and I'm having an issue. I have a sigelei Telescope #20 and a SmokTech 5-12W Kick. The mod fires perfectly fine without the kick, occasionally misses but overall very consistent. The first night I used the Kick (have had it since Friday), it worked great overall (using it almost exclusively on the 12W setting), but beginning on Saturday, it would all of a sudden stop firing out of nowhere. Sometimes pressing the firing button multiple times would make it fire, and other times I had to adjust the tube up or down, but regardless it always started working again. By late Saturday, it was pretty random when it work and when it wouldn't.

And then by Sunday morning, I thought it had died completely, but if I took it out of the mod and put it back in, it would fire once or twice and stop - I repeated this two or three times before removing it permanently out of frustration. My batteries have been good the entire time, mod not getting hot, atty resistance looks good, and I don't think there are any shorts.

Also, I was concerned about how tight the Kick had to fit in order to make a connection, but there seemed no way around this, as loosening it up would just make the issue worse.

Did I just get a faulty Kick, or am I doing something wrong? Could I have maybe shorted out the Kick itself at some point?

Well, I didn't realize that all these cheapy Kicks were clones of the real thing - the Evolv Kick 2 looks like much much better quality.
