I have a kidney stone - a very small one. Still that little bugger has caused me the greatest pain I have had in a long pain filled life, much worse then getting shot, worst then 24 hours of labor pains, worst then abdominal surgery. When it rears up l will take 30mg of methodone and 20 of oxycodone and it will barily touch the pain. Even the pain shots I got in the emergancy room last night would not stop it.

I have not passed it (they gave me a stainer to use to catch it) but right now the pain has greatly lessened so I hope it has moved into my bladder and the end is in sight.

The biggest risk factor for kidney stones is dehydration.

I have probably read a hundred of post where the good people here at ecf have warned us of the need to plenty drank water, but I live a busy life - and it was easy to just overlook my thrust.

Do not be a dumb as I was - you really do need increased liquid intake while indulging in this my favorate addiction. And not just water - as you need to keep your electrolytes balanced - but fruit juices or sports drinks also.

Worst three days of my life. I was on my way to visit friends in SW Va and stopped in to Harper's Ferry. In the middle of a short movie on John Brown it hit, went away briefy then hit hard. To make a long story short, ended up in a WV hospital, took an ambulance ride down to Winchester where we were visiting so I could avoid spending the night in a hospital in WV and got the doc down there to release me into the care of the two nurses at my friends house (our wives).

I never wanted to go through that again. When that stone finally showed up, it was amazing how such a little thing created such havoc. I truly feel your pain. Demerol was the script given me and it worked like a charm in about 10 minutes. Slept like a baby once it kicked in. That was probably a quarter century ago but never forgotten.

Good luck and as George Harrison said, "All things shall pass".

Oh I feel so bad for you ! I have the privalege of having recurring stones and they are the kind that are attached to the kidney ! Every 5-7 years...here we go again !!
Always keep your kidneys flushed out ! Drink...drink...drink !!! And "folk medicine" says lemon juice helps keep them from forming...(mine are calcium and phospherous) I use 2T of Apple Cider Vinegar daily and I am on year 9 with no stones !!! May be "hogwash" but I think I'll keep it up !

(I think it the closest a guy can get to knowing what labor pains are like! having had both !)

Any tricks for getting Apple Cider Vinegar down? I haven't figured out how to do 2T without tasting it the next day yet.

Purchase Raw.Organic Vinegar (pleasant to the taste), not the other stuff..... this is an excellent brand Bragg Organic Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar.... If you can't stand the taste of Bragg, mix 2 tablespoons of Bragg with tablespoon of honey...... good for what ails us

Already use Bragg's Raw Organic, LMAO, it's still hard to drink a shot of it.
