Got mine from Sephora... Do not repeat Do Not buy from "Dermstore" without reading the external reviews!! I went through a three week nightmare involving 50+ emails to cancel an order that was on backorder with them. Sephora was great and I am unaware of any issues with Barney's although they were out of stock when I was looking.

I was using CVS rolled cotton and it caused a "cotton sensitivity" for me like VapingGreek discussed in some of his videos and audiocasts. Basically neck and shoulder tension and pain - though mine was not as bad as VapingGreek experienced. I pretty much always used cotton so I thought it was just part of vaping. When I saw his video I tried switching to ekowool and sure enough the tension/pain went away within a few days. It was the weirdest thing and has improved my vaping experience immensely.

But I've wondered if it was something about the specific cotton I have. This Koh Gen Do cotton looks like it is as "clean" as one could hope to get. I couldn't find it in stock before so I've been using ekowool for about a month. With this link I ordered some and have my fingers crossed. I prefer cotton over ekowool since anything silica worries me due to particles/slivers being inhaled. I sure hope this stuff works for me.

I got one package from the Dermstore and one from Barneys and both shipped fast and were 12.00 w free shipping. The Dermstore is a great place , but you HAVE to notice if its actually in stock or on back order. If its in the back order stage it will take some time. Again, I have never had to cancel and order and have not had the same experience.

I also got some similar cotton from AMazon, its Japanese Organic Pads by LABO, you get a LOT more for less money, but its not as dense and a bit stringy/ shred prone? IT is great if you are just cutting a piece off and slipping it in a coil, but for my Odysseus builds, where it requires a bit more handling , the Koh Gen DO is better.

Both look the same, taste the same and are manufactured in Japan. The LABO one took a month to get to me.

What's the advantage of this over the sterile rolled cotton?

Christian, all the fibers run in the same direction and it's in pad form. This means that you simply cut your wick from a pad with a pair of scissors.

Then you just twist the tip to thread it thru. That's all. No more rolling up into a dense wick. It is very easy to make and duplicate the perfect wick every time

It's also chemical free

Here, check this brother :)

Thanks Russ. Just watched your video after I read through this thread and did a search. This seems like a really good thing, like getting a non lumpy, consistent wick every time. That appeals to me.

Off to order.

I got me some kgd cotton from Barney's just after I installed new contacts in my grand. I kept getting a burnt taste so I tried upping my ohms thinking the new contacts were overpowering the setup or something. No change in the burnt taste - like it wasn't wicking well. I tried more/less dense wicks, long/short wicks, moving my coil closer to the posts, etc, but it just wasn't tasting right.

Went back to my common cotton balls and the flavor I was missing returned. I know many are having real good luck with the kgd cotton and I'm wondering why I couldn't keep the burnt taste away? Thought maybe I got a bad batch with too many tiny little cotton seeds in it that I may be burning? I really like the thought of using of pure cotton like this.

I had read Russ raving about it, seen his video and meant to check it out but never got around to it. I got a pad from anavidfan with an atty I bought from her, wicked up a couple of atties and now have some on the way :)

I'm getting about the same flavor as I was with cotton balls but you can't believe how quickly this stuff wicks and how easy it is to use.

Yes I only wish I would have listened to treebeard like about 8 month ago when he first publicized how excellent this stuff was :)

There are several compelling reasons to use KGD but the best one is that it is chemical free(?) which means no residual bleach or peroxide from a whitening process (which means no funky "band-aid" flavor that you get from "sterilized" cotton).... and it is grown without pesticides and fertilizer. I'm glad to see so many folks using KGD. Thanks for getting the word out, Russ.
