Hey, some good suggestions, everybody -- Thanks!! The Travis McGee series sounds right up my alley and seems like I've read some Lisa Gardner and liked it. I'm sure I've read a "...Cat Who..." book, but don't remember if I liked it. Oh, and Ambeck, Alice Hoffman wrote Practical Magic and Dovekeepers must be a new one -- I'll probly read it, even tho some of her books I'm not crazy about, most of them I've loved.

I can't beGIN to keep up with James Patterson, lol, but I definitely keep up with Women's Murder Club!! Read the Alec Cross books up till the last couple of years, but got kinda burned out on them. Believe it or not, I've not read DaVinci Code!! Ever get a mental block about something? I just can't convince myself that I'm going to like that book, no CLUE what that's about!?! Whoever it is who wrote that they liked Mary Magdalene stuff, you might try the books surrounding the Nag Hammadi library -- VERY good nonfiction stuff available.

Another series I've enjoyed is Nevada Smith's books. She's a former National Park Ranger whose lead character is a female ranger and the mysteries are set in different parks all over the country. Oh, and I loved some of the Clan of the Cave Bear and tolerated the rest (some too "romancy" for me -- no offense to you romance readers), as well as a series on prehistoric Native Americans written by a couple who are archaeologists (can't think of their names, but titles are "People of the ...").

Y'all have given me some good tips -- I'll hit the library website and get some lined up for DH to pick up. No bookstore within 50 miles, but we have a pretty good library.

Thanks a Bunch! :)

Ugh, didn't finish The Dovekeepers but I did read Practical Magic. I like the movie and didn't know it was a book! The Da Vinci Code is very good. I don't go for politics or religion books ever but I gave it a shot since it was so popular and I couldn't put it down. After that, I read Angels & Demons and The Lost Symbol and enjoyed them. I get burnt out on James Patterson sometimes, too, but I read all of his books eventually. I also got burnt out on Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series but read them all, too, after taking a break. They are funny, but they were getting old and predictable for a while. I like series books, if you couldn't tell :).

I finally got around to, and finished, the Hunger Games trilogy. It certainly was worth the buy.
On deck on my Kindle Touch is the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, 10th Anniversary (women's murder club/patterson), Unforseen x Nick Pirog, and believe it or not, John Carter of Mars series.

haha, I burn out on Patterson books too... (except the murder club).

I so loved David Baldacci's The Camel Club series and just can't believe I haven't kept up to date with all his books. He's got a new one out called The Innocent. Anyone read it yet?

:::: remembering to subscribe to thread this time around so I don't get so behind!:::

I recently did my taxes and I am using part of it to treat myself to some books. I will be getting some of the newer Stephen King books that I haven't gotten to read yet and several Bentley Little books (LOVE this horror author!!). Not sure what other ones yet. I was toying with the idea of getting a kindle but decided against it. I thought that the e-books would be cheaper than they were and I would get a nice collection for a good price onto my kindle, but it looks like I won't be saving any money that way, though I do see you can sometimes get free e-books and share some e-books too, I still don't think it is worth it financially. I usually get my books used and therefore cheap, so I am just going to stick to regular books for now.

You go, Girl! Good use of a tax refund, if you ask me! I, too, buy used books and use the library a lot. Have you ever tried Alibris.com? Good source! I've considered a Nook, but (a) I LIKE books, holding them, etc and (b) I keep spending the money on something else! lol

Forgot about the "Dragon Tatoo" -- need to read that. My mother didn't like it and that's nearly always an indication that I will! ha We just do NOT have the same taste in books with the exception of the light stuff, like Evanovich and Rita Mae Brown. About Evanovich -- my whole family are readers and love the Plum series and we all agree the last few books haven't been as GOOD! So, Ladies, it may not just be boredom with the series, it may also be they're just not up to par. Same with Brown and Sneaky Pie -- they're not writing as well.

Speaking of Patterson, I read somewhere that his "co-authors" are restricted by contract from revealing how much or how little they write on the books. Since then, I've suspect that what's-her-face (co-author of Murder Club) is doing pretty much all the writing, cause to me it's really dif from Patterson's other stuff.

What are the Hunger Games about? The movie looks really interesting, so I'm curious about the story line and books.

Definitely cheaper for me to have a Kindle. I bought both of my Kindles used on e-Bay and never buy e-books now. There are several, several places for free e-books and Amazon even has cheap e-books for 2-3 bucks a lot and free e-books at times. I "like" a lot of free e-book sites on Facebook and they post freebies daily. If you're sticking with paperbacks, you might like Paperback Swap. I was a member before getting my Kindle. You put some of your used books up to "swap" and just pay cheap shipping and get credit for however many you swap and you can get that many. I didn't explain it well, but you could check out the site.

All "The Girl" books are good...I think I liked the third (last) one the best. The first one seemed slow to me but when it picked up, it picked up! I loved the American movie, too :). My mom wouldn't like it, either, so I haven't even suggested it to her.

The Hunger Games is the first in a trilogy about kids fighting to the death for the rich's entertainment. It vaguely reminds me of Running Man, but only because of the concept. Names are drawn and the kids (ages 12-18, I think) who are chosen have to go into an arena and fight to the death. There is only 1 winner and he or she will be set for life financially after becoming the champion. There are 24 contenders, 1 boy and 1 girl from each district (like states) and 12 districts. The "game" is televised. Good trilogy; I enjoyed it. The movie was VERY good, in my opinion.

I might like the Hunger books -- I'll look for them. And thanks for the book swap info -- your explanation made sense to me, but that's certainly no reassurance! lol :p

I will check out alibris, I have it bookmarked, thanks :)

Is it like halfpricedbooks.com and other discount online book stores, or is it different tho? My problem with those half priced online book stores is I want to get a bunch of books at once, and they ship from all different stores, so you have to pay shipping for each store, and then it doesn't add up to savings. Last time I tried to make an order I was very frustrated with that.

I changed my mind on the kindle because there are several specific books I want to get right now that are not free e books and are pricey for the e book price. I was hoping that not only would I get good deals, but on the specific books I wanted, not just any book. I know I can get some freebies that way but there are specific books that I want. So instead I am going the route of just getting them as regular books instead. I was looking at barnes and noble (don't shop there for my books too often because I usually prefer book sales, thrift stores and garage sales for their prices) but since this is a treat for me...I'm gonna get some new. I was pleased to see that many of the books I want, since they are years old, are sale priced. They even had some for 1.99 and 99 cents, even tho it's barnes and noble. Plus, just one shipping cost, but the shipping will be waived because I am going to spend over a certain amount. So between perhaps walmart and barnes and noble online is prob how I will get my new books.

I will definitely check out paperbackswap also. That sounds right up my alley. I have a bunch to swap actually. I sold some recently on craigslist, some very popular authors, but still have many left.

I'm also going to be getting some movies too that I have been wanting to add to my movie collection for a long time. Probably get most of those from Walmart. Movies & books, then saving the rest for moving expenses :) OH, and my son is getting a bike.

Hi, Love! Alibris does work the same, but what I do is shop my books at one dealer (usually alibris themselves, cause they're big) and order a group from one place, cause I ran into the same thing you're talking about. Alibris is set up where it's easy to check on a dealer and find out how big they are, then shop just one dealer at a time. Another thing I've noticed about Alibris is that the "rating" of the book condition -- good, fair, excellent, like new, etc -- has always been accurate, which I like.

Also, the reason I'd get a Nook instead of a Kindle is the public library. Our library has free checkout of e-books, but Kindle isn't compatible. If I remember correctly, books for Kindle can ONLY be purchased from Amazon, where the Nook will accept them from any dealer. Anyway, we have a state library and I don't know if it varies from state to state of city to city, but it's worth checking on. If I get a Nook, I can check out an ebook from the library and download it to the Nook, read it and check it back in and get another. All you hafta have is a library card, which is free. Does that all make sense?

I shop thrift stores for books, too -- do you shop Goodwill and Salvation Army? Both good sources.

Thanks, if alibris has dealers with bigger selections, then that could work. The library for my town is very small, they don't have e-books, but perhaps when I move, depending on where, I may have access to a better library.

Yeah, I have gotten books from both salvation army and goodwill. Also library sales. When the library is replacing books, or got donations of books they already have, or whatever, they have a sale, and I've gotten some good books that way. Most of my books I've gotten recently tho have been from salvation army.

I was just checking out the paperback swap and it looks really neat!! I am definitely gonna join :)

Hubby bought both of us a Kindle Touch for our anniversary presents. I absolutely love it, especially now that I also have the lighted book cover for it too. We share books all the time between us, and Amazon has free book offers as long as you read it within a certain amount of time. (Time may vary from book to book). The battery lasts forever if I don't use the night light, but as I mainly read at night, I still get a good many books read between charges. It's expensive getting set up, but between the freebies and long battery life, it's well worth it.

The Hunger Games Series has it all... Love, Sabotage, Murder, Survival, Survivalist stuff, Cunning, Adventure, (the arena's vary from game to game... jungles, deserts, mountains, islands), .... it's a great read. I'll catch the movie when it comes out on DVD and am so glad the movie is considered worth the watch.

Ohhhh, I bet you're right about who writes most of the WMC novels. :)
