My library has two options for e-books. you can download them as kindle books (through amazon) or in an e-pub version that opens in a program called overdrive.

Changing the subject a little, but have any of you ever read the book "The Women's Room"? It's ooooold, but that book had a big impact on my life, as I read it when I was barely an adult and it's a "women's lib" book. Can't remember the author, but I think it's Marilyn something, MAYbe Robinson. For you younger gals, I and probly some of the other ladies, grew up in the women's lib era, and I remember vividly when girls couldn't even wear SLACKS to school, much less jeans, women were considered a little "loose" if they went around without a hat and gloves, etc. I personally was not allowed to take ag and shop in my high school, even tho at the time I hoped to be a veterinarian and those were very important classes for me. We've come a loooooong way, baby!

I don't know the book you're talking about...but i do remember when it became permissible to wear slacks to school. I was in elementary school at the time.

Lol. I was never told that, but I was the only girl in Mechanical Drawing. The guys didn't like that because I was the best student and the only one to get an A. The teacher used that to "motivate" the boys! I just loved that class, too.

Hey everybody, The Women's Room was written by Marilyn French. I get a little OCD when I can't think of something like that -- lol -- so I looked it up. Apparently it wasn't just me affected by the book -- it's considered a hallmark book on women's rights and was an eNORmous success and touted by some of the leading feminists, like Steinem. Just FYI if anyone's interest.

I just spent an hour reading the entire thread

just got a nook. love it. I can change the font so I can see with my fading eyesight !

one writer I've always loved and didn't see mentioned (although I could have missed it...) is larry mcmurtry - lonesome dove, terms of endearment are a couple of his.

now, thanks to this thread I have a big list of stuff I want to read and I'm poor and so far can only afford free ebooks lol, but I have enough of those to read for a while

I have spent the last 2 days trying to watch all the tv shows I record. tonite I will resume reading. I am really having to control myself, I don't like that LOL DH is having a procedure done wed. I am looking forward to the waiting room for a change . this nook has really re-inspired my love of reading

Purchased a bunch of Bentley Little horror books today and also a couple Taste of Home diet recipe books!! Signed up for paperbackswap.com too and plan on doing a lot of swapping there, just been too lazy to bring up 3 flights of stairs a box of books from my car, lol, once I do though I will list a bunch, pretty excited to get some good books this way too.

I was checking out the library to see what they have from my list, and remembered 3 good books. If you like funny stories about people and haven't read them, Rita Mae Brown's books, Bingo, Six of One and Loose Lips are hysTERical!!! About 2 sisters and their ongoing feuds and to me they're ROFL funny!!

Also, any GWTW fans, found out there's an unauthorized sequel availabe in Australia that's supposed to be really up to par. It's pricey, but I think I'm going to order it anyway. Scarlett, imo, was trash, but still a guilty pleasure and Rhett Butler's People wasn't too bad, but I'd sure like to get my hands on a good one.

The "People of..." series is W. Michael and Kathleen Gear, if anyone's interested. It's prehistoric N. America and they're very good writers.

I;ve been working my way through some books by Jim Butcher, e-books through my library. . Fantasy, he has a couple of series, including the Dresden Files (it was made into a TV series that had a least one season)

Hello fellow bookworms. I like a variety. I'm into true crime, fantasy, romance, fiction. I love VC Andrews the dawn series is my fav, twilight series, some Nora Roberts like the three sisters island and the key trilogy, Lisa Gardner and just misc others. I also have a kindle fire. Love it. I'm getting ready to start reading fifty shades of grey that I seen on dr oz today, can't wait.

Flowers in the Attic, the dawn series, and the casteel series are my fav vc andrews series I'm not into romance very much, but I love mystery and horror, I do like the twilight series also. I like to read some literature now and then and am getting more and more into sci-fi type books. I like true crime too tho I wish a lot of them were better, some true crime books are really written poorly.

Just jumping in here to add some more of my favs.

David Gunther's "Snow Falling on Cedars" or "East of the Mountains." They're not mysteries, but well written stories...about normal life. No fantasy, magic, or vampires in these.

Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" and "Good Omens." These are probably considered fantasy...but more about Gods (of multiple faiths) and angels & demons. (for those who don't have a sense of humor about religious context, these may not be good reads for you...fair warning)

Hey, was anyone a fan of Jean Auel's "Clan" series? I didn't even know the last one came out!?!? Each one usually takes her YEARS to write, so I wasn't expecting it so soon. Gonna pick that up at the library -- anyone know if it was any good? IMO, some of them were AWEsome and some were pretty feeble. Gotta find out what happens, tho!

I read it Donna, my library had it. It was good. that was another series that i hadn't read anything from in a long time. this was one of the good ones

I just picked up the new Stephen king and the new John Grisham (baseball story rather than lawyer story) from the library the other day.Though i haven't started either of them yet,
