Our landlords posted a notice on our doors that they would enter our apartments to measure the windows. Another tenant and I promptly posted that we would refuse them entry due to the COVID-19 situation.

So far, no entry. They haven't tried to discuss the situation, either. I think the least they could do is get tested.

The Health Dept. is actually less helpful to our situation than you'd expect; they say that building repairs are "essential" activities (really? new windows in winter, when the old ones work fine?). But my neighbor is connected with tenants' rights groups, and has extensive experience bickering with the previous landlord. He just sold the buildings to these two young guys and retired.

Increased energy efficiency in the windows during winter sounds like a very good idea.
Yes it does, and I'm certain it is. I think they should have had this bright idea before Fall though. I live in WV, and the temp range averages from the low 30's in the morning to the high 50's during the day. I'm sure it's a heckuva lot colder in WI especially with Winter being about a month away. I wouldn't want my windows removed and then replaced. Think about the electric bills the tenants have to pay already, before having to 'turn the heat up' for a while to compensate.

Measuring the windows also doesn't mean they re going to replace them that day it could mean they want to know what they need for spring but also you don't HAVE to turn up the heat you could just get under a blanket or two of course if it has to be done during the winter and you do want to turn up the heat then you should see if there is compansation for it but my guess is if it has to be done in the winter that the place was purchased by a flipper and they want to improve it and sell as fast as possible

Social distancing, mask wear and hand sanitizer is all that's needed. You don't need to hover over them as they work.

Yeah, I was worried that they might be flippers. But my neighbor said there's too much money to let it go. My main concern is that they evict us all, just to get us out of the way.

Well, the latest word is that 15 minutes indoors equals an exposure. They should have done it earlier in the year, before it got too cold to leave the windows open.

Luckily, the landlord pays for the heat.

I don't buy it personally. Too many aren't getting covid that regularly come into contact with it. Masks and courtesy distancing during short term contact should be sufficient. Besides you can always keep an eye out from a doorway across the room.

Much easier to sell rental property if there are no vacancies to fill. You should safe on that front.

Leaving the windows open would not lessen any possible exposure. Again, as long as they are wearing an appropriate mask and there is sanitizer available, the risk is minimal.

Flat out if I was the landlord I would not renew the lease of pain in the ... tenants, especially if I was trying to do things at times that were convenient for them. I do know here in Texas keeping a landlord out of your rental property is grounds for eviction, and just because there is money in it does not mean they can't easily find someone else to rent from them in this economy finding tenants is easier than finding a pedo at a Boy Scouts function.

But @Letitia is right if you have nothing to hide then there is no reason not to let them do what they need to do, and hey you said they pay for the heat so if they do end up replacing the windows in winter how high you have to turn up the heat is another point in their favor but also in your just crank that thing up all the way while the windows are out and you don't have to pay for it.

I don't want to get COVID-19. Wisconsin is now the 4th highest in new infections. Apologies to the landlords but sometimes stuff happens. They know that I'm at extremely high risk, so this is not just a pretext to keep the landlords out.

Circulating fresh air does lessen exposure. And the risk is not minimal, it increases with time duration.

Who is this person with the latest word? If, big 'if', true then in the last twenty-four hours, I have ninety-six exposures, I stayed inside all day and night. I am, now, working on another ninety-six exposures today before I leave the house tomorrow.

I agree that sounds more like information that comes from 4chan. If that was true then everyone in the world would be infected

I'm high risk, live in Texas and am considered essential so I've working all through the duration of this mess. Bexar county's numbers during the spring and summer were higher than most state totals. I have not been infected.

I wear a mask religiously when at work and while I'm out and about. I keep sanitizer in my vehicle and on my person. I also do the majority of food shopping so my SO and her kiddo don't have to go out as often.

Our county numbers were 366 yesterday. State new case numbers were 13,182 yesterday.

Common sense and following sanitation guidelines are more than sufficient to keep one safe. Could I still get it? Sure. I could also be run over by a bus tomorrow, too. Still won't cause me to over react.
