Now I know it's old, but it's still good. There are remixes... better not post em.... pretty iffy.
It was the Dell commercial that got me thinking about it. Funny how commercials work like that. This one too

Let me start at the end, based on my testing, ~I~ think there is likely little to worry about here regarding lead.

Now.. I'm a shooter, hunter, hacker, and generally hazardous sort of guy. So I first removed my shirt, washed my hands and forearms well, put on a fresh shirt. Cleaned a testing area and used two of the tests on the walls, table, and surrounding areas to make sure I was not going to contaminate them. I admit I also followed the instructions and tested my skin (I've watched a lot of X-Files, you never know).

I bought four packs of eight tests at $106 total. So first lesson, DON'T buy these at Lowe's at the last minute.

~I~ made the decision to cut walls and posts to test the CE2s as thoroughly as possible. I also tested some other things around. I used mostly new CE2s for testing but since some were used I tested the Vermillion, BWB, and Alien Visions juice that had gone through them. ALL juice was negative.

A total of nineteen CE2s were tested, seven 'fat wicks' that are newer from what I understand, twelve older ones. I also tested three SMOKtech dual-coil clear cartomizers, and one atomizer from a njoy kit bought on the highway about a year ago.

Three of the twelve older CE2s tested POSITIVE

Seven of the newer CE2s tested NEGATIVE

Three SMOKtech tested NEGATIVE

One Njoy atomizer tested POSITIVE

I tested the solder joints and the coils as best I could on all the CE2s. I tested right on the surface and then used a file to scrape the surface and test again. If it was negative before and after scrape, I moved on. If it was positive I cleaned it with 99% pure isopropyl and tested again to confirm. None of the tests generated conflicting results on the same subject.

(Included in those three positive older CE2s are the first two I did earlier in the thread, I retested as above to confirm.)

I also tested my mods and batteries and everything came out negative although I was expecting a positive on some brass parts. Didn't happen (yet).

I know people were waiting so I typed that out as fast as I could.... I'd normally put it in a table, edit it, etc. Sorry for the mess, I have some more work to do on the older CE2s to try to identify which came from where, what they have in common, what not, etc. Keeping baggies and notes here for any questions. Check back in with you later, Cheers, -Magnus

Thanks for doing this!!! and glad the newer ones check out.

A bit ticked that they tried a fast one on the old ones though!!!

Well I am going to have my friend do some testing on mine...I have some R4 and R5 clearos.....and I HAVE to know.....no sending me a bunch of clearos or such...I have a good enough supply...and I will probably not buy any more for a bit....just thinking bout this made me shaky......I will post results and this will be GCMS however ya wanna look at it...taste aside I will take an occasional burnt filler over lead any day...I will not be detailed it will be pos or neg...as I believe any is no good...

well he works in a forensics lab...and is allowed some leeway sometimes...and thinks he owes me bigtime...I don't think it that way I would have done what I did again regardless of his opinion....it was right thing to do...

anyway whatever he needs to do to test he will...and I do not know all capabilities of gcms I just know it is used to test for chemical composition...I figured it can test for lead...if not my bad...maybe I should know though before I spout off...lol

Here is a thought/update for you.... and I think a good one.

I cut all three of the positive CE2s into pieces as best I could. I separated out the coil, the wires, the post, the screw plate, and the rim wall. I cleaned them in isopropyl. Two of the three tested positive only on the screw-plate that connects to the battery terminal on the outside. One still tested positive on two solder joints and the screw plate.

If my records and memory serve me I bought these older CE2s in June of 2010.

Now... here might be something more interesting except that it's from 2008. It's a report on Royal Smokers about an inspection that tested their components for various compounds including lead. http://www.royalsmokers.com/ROHS-Report.pdf (You can use Google Translate too if you want.)

The way ~I~ read that component list and related results is that back in 2008 they weren't doing bad on the lead front already. The things they tested the worst on are still well under US EPA ranges if we're to trust all those results.

So, again, I think even if these LeadCheck sticks turned pinkish we're probably OK with most if not all of our CE2s. Now I'm the fsckin' idiot who ruined all of his SMOKtech dual-coil clears to do that test those. Buffoon Magnus... you're a buffoon. -Magnus

I'd rather not have lead in any of it. However, br's point about the metal (and the cutting, filing) may be important too. Hence the outside connector. The atty one bothers me the most, since I use them the most, and they shouldn't have any brass posts in them.

IDK much about the EPA standards and the effects.... or how different (PH?) juices would leach the lead. But dang.... still bugs me.

Oh, and P.S. You're no buffoon for wanting to verify something like this.

EDIT: wonder how much lead we got from cigs (if any)?

Hey, if anybody wants to donate some of the CE2s to me, I won't complain... but not money please, it really was something I ~had~ to do. I've got a 3yo daughter in the other room and I really REALLY want to live as long as possible for her. If you feel really compelled you can PM me but honestly, it's OK. I feel better now that I know. -Magnus
