Even with the wick I still love the Saphire! I do think that at least part of the blame for the wick burning as much as it did is my own fault for trying to test the limits of the Saphire. Great thing was that I was able to bring the Saphire back to life easily. I think these are meant and designed for 3.7-4.2V. The Bud that I used at that voltage range wasn't nearly as burnt. Chris/Dan I do agree with you that the Saphire is a great product with almost no issues and that is a feat for a 1st general released version of a e-cigg product. I will be buying more of these once you get your large shipment in.

I think we all need to keep something in mind here. Everyone wants a great product but don't want to pay a lot of money for it. There is only so much a factory can do to achieve both those aims. I am sure there is some high quality wicking available that would never burn but it costs more money and if it was used the cost would go up and people likely wouldn't want to buy it because it would result in a higher product price. Chris/Dan have done a great job at delivering a great product with a very reasonable cost.

Hi squirrel,

The Sapphire that I've been using on a 3.7V device continues to work just great; no leaks, no burnt taste - just great flavor and more-than-adequate vapor. I couldn't be happier with it. The one I tore apart is one that I abused on purpose. Without taking time to break it in at 3.7V, I stuck it on a 6V device and vaped back to back to see how far I could take it before getting a burnt taste. I just about nic OD'd :) Once I started getting a tiny bit of dry burnt taste, I took it apart and replaced the wick. Actually, the wick wasn't burnt to a crisp or anything like that. It was only burnt slightly where it met the atty's coils.

I kinda think you'll enjoy the Sapphire right out of the box. If you don't, there's a ton of people who would be more than glad to take them off your hands :D

Let us know how it goes...

Maybe so, but I would have felt a little better about my purchase had I not seen complaints about leaking and burning wicks this soon . But I will constrain any more opinions until I receive them. Guess I was hoping this was something we wouldn't see.

Don’t stress it too much Squirrel, I bet you’ll be really happy with your sapphires! No matter how much quality control and testing is put into a mass produced product, there is always going to be a percentage with issues. From the feedback so far, these are performing above par. Both of mine were awesome right out of the box. I’m running 3.7v, but my PV doesn’t have a cut off and I’m sure I cooked my wick with a day’s worth of long, back to back hits. My initial post wasn’t intended as a complaint, just wanted to get it out there for feedback and start the ball rolling on a solution. Fortunately, it was an easy one that involved less time and effort than anything else I’ve worked on. My resurrected sapphire is at 100% with no signs of any more trouble. It is a great design and I plan to order more when the vortex 2.0 comes out. Hint Hint!

Hey stretch, I kinda put myself in this position, because I ordered these instead of my beloved dcc's. And then saw another thread somewhere of burnt wick and you know the rest of the story. So I'm takin everyone's word and not even going to order anymore dcc's for right now. I'm almost going into withdraws just writing that  So I'm a trusting soul sometimes ! Thanks for all the feedback and support !

YIPEE!!! Home at last
Sorry about the delay. I vaped myself into a short coma. I think this maybe the last device I ever need ( wife is doing a happy dance after that statement) . So I have literally and unitensionally abused the Crap out of this carto. I have carried in my front pants/shorts pocket. I have dropped it off of shelves /dressers ,out of the car (while parked) and until I smashed it repeatedly with a balpine hammer it did not crack or leak. I feel safe for the first time carrying this in a pocket. Ok it was not a hammer it was the epower cone but I felt it was to tight and I put it on anyway. I absolutley love this on my 510 auto. It would only be better if I had a similar sized auto with a larger mah hint hint. I know I am so subtle. Love this carto that is all I have to say about that.

My theory is I can try New Products like DCC, Sapphires, Pump Carts, etc, and New e-liquids Flavors Every month and even if half of them don’t work for me or I don’t like the taste of the e-Liquid I’m still saving a Boat Load of money over spending $175 on analogs that were killing me.

Wow, that was kinda a run-on sentence

Yeah and you left off a period, too. :p

edit: btw in case you're wondering why I've been around so much lately it's because I had hernia surgery two weeks ago. My banjo is above my weight restriction limit. <---- true.

Now you know why I was a Math Major and not an English Major !!!!

Hernia Surgery, Yikes. That can be painful and a slow recovery. Hope you’re doing OK and are taking it slow. Don’t rush your recovery.

I just got my sapphires in today. Had high hopes. Filled one up and about every other drag tasted burnt. I am using a 3.7 and I do not know why it tastes burnt right out of the box (yes I let the juice sit a while). I also do know know how to mess with them to try and fix them. The wick at the bottom looks black. I have not used a clearomizer before so i don't have any extra wicking.
I bought a pack for my 75 year old sister to try and now I am afraid to let her have them.....she wouldn't be able to fix them either.
I have only taken about 20 hits off it....I really don't want to breath burnt stuff.
I need help please. Why would the wick burn up so quickly?

After 3 of 4 did the same thing I am stumped. First on leaked alittle into the air tube on the first fill and worked like a beast after that. The last 3 have instantly flooded into the air tube from the first fill, even before connecting to the battery. I can fill and let it sit on the desk and watch the eliquid equalize into the air tube. I have replaced the wick in 2 with no sucess (same issue) so i am out of ideas. I know the answer is simple but I just do not have a solution.

thanks

Don't know if this will help, but the right amount of wick seems to be critical on these. Too little and it'll leak through the battery connection - too much it won't wick well and will taste dry. Last time I replaced the wick it took me 3 tries to get it right. Lining up the air tube with the cut-out in the wick holder is important, too.

Lining up the air tube I checked very closly so I don't think thats it. I used the fat wick from a CE2 and left about 3/8" or less sticking down into the atty. What is best?

I would go with more verses less.

If the wick isn't in contact with the coil or the outer metal mesh, your not going to get any e-liquid to the coil.

Too much might flood the coil but you can allways tell when a coil is flooding. It will gurgle when you draw on it.

If it's leaking through the battery connector you definitely don't have enough wick in the hole. As long as you have enough wick sticking through to make good contact with the atty you should be fine. The wick holder should easily fit back on the atty base with no resistance.

It's not the wick that is buring, it's your e-Liquid.

When a coil doesn't get enough e-Liquid, the temperature goes up, because there is no e-Liquid to convert to vapor, and your e-Liquid burns. It's kinda like when you doa Dry Burn.

You can increase wicking on a Sapphire by removing a very small portion of the wick. You would remove the tube, pull the wick out of the holder, remove a strand, wet the wick in your e-Liquid and then push it back in.

But if you remove too much wick the coil will flood or the carto may leak.

So if youy decide to pull remove some of the wick, only take a very small amount and see how it goes.

Thanks Banjo, I try again and maybe the third try will do the trick.
