Lemo Help?

So I just got my Lemo today. I did 12 wraps with the wire that came with it (I believe it's 26 gauge wire). It came out to 1.4 Ohm. I was previously using an RSST.

I have a few questions:

1. My coil is taking forever to heat up. It's taking about 2 seconds before I can hit it. My RSST would instantly produce vapor. Is this normal, or could it be the way I wrapped my coil? I'm new to wrapping these type of coils.

2. It seems like the flavor of my RSST was slightly better. Should the Lemo have better flavor than an RSST?

I have noticed how much warmer of a vape the Lemo is compared to my RSST. There is a pretty big difference between Cotton and Mesh when it comes to "smooth vapes" - cotton feels much smoother.

Other than those two issues, I'm loving the Lemo. I like that I don't have to worry about leaking or tilting it when I vape.

I'm using a ProVari.

Thanks!

In addition to the resistance of the coil, you also have to take into consideration the mass of the coil and the heat flux. Your ProVari isn't going to be able to push enough wattage to heat up a coil of that mass. At 15 watts, your heat flux is only around 95 mW/mm^2 With 28 gauge wire at the same resistance, your heat flux will be at around 190 mW/mm^2 which will give you much better results.

Also, wide open, the Lemo is a *very* airy draw. You'll really need a lot more wattage to get any flavour unless you close off the airflow.

I would scrap the 26ga wire if building for the Provari. 12 wraps of 26ga is just to much metal for the amount of power available.

28ga wire would heat up much more quickly. 8-10 wraps at 2mm should work nicely.

Once you nail the build in the Lemo, it should outperform the RSST in terms of flavor. Even with a top cap reducer with mesh wick, the flavor was muted in my RSST versus a kayfun/Lemo style tank.

Thanks everyone. I will go ahead and try some higher resistance wire. I have some 30 gauge lying around somewhere.

Since I'm only using 6-8 wraps, should I leave some space in between my coil wraps? Or should I compress them?

The 30g is overly "springy" to me -- and the 28g and 29g substantially less so. Compressed vs. spaced seems to be a personal choice; personally I wrap tensioned and compressed.

It did not come with 26g wire. It is much thinner...more like 30g or higher which has much higher resistance. That's why it is taking forever to heat up. No atty comes with 26g wire.

I don't know where you ordered yours from, but all 4 of mine from 2 different vendors have thicker wire than 28ga. Don't make blanket statements like that because you're wrong.

Mine came with 26, a nicely made coil, btw, but at 1.2 not really useful on most of my regulated mods - and I'm not a fan of silica. The extra wire that came with mine is also 26. So says my micrometer.

And the mass of wire is the issue. Takes longer to heat and cool - you can hear it sizzling for a full second after releasing the fire button. (I notice the same thing with 28, but not as long...)
