I would second this bit of advice and add that trying juice flavors at a B & M to find out what you like will save you a ton of cash!

Best of luck!!!

I wish I could do this but the nearest B & M is almost an hour away. There's a smoke shop near me where I bought my first ego kit, but they just sell sealed ejuice bottles so I can't sample.

And thanks! So far so good!

1. Taste is subjective. The flavor everyone raves about will most likely go to the top of your most hated list.
2. Patience, patience, patience. Be willing to learn and try new things.
3. In reference to #2. This does not mean watching some idjit on YouTube and think that you can do the same thing. Educate thy self.
4. Did I mention that taste is subjective?
5. Ask questions. Don't be afraid to say you don't understand something.
6. See #1.

My main lessons learned:

1) Steeping!!!!
2.) After filling tanks, make sure the wicks get soaked. Those dry hit/burnt taste nearly made me quit after a week of vaping.
3.) Quit chasing that ONE tobacco flavor-it will never taste like a Marlboro Light
4.) Sample sizes is a blessing and helps cut wasteful spending on juices that I don't like
5.) If I have no idea....post it/search it on EFC..somebody WILL know the answer!

Sample juices and understanding our tastes will change over time...
Best to buy samples to find your likes and dislikes. When I first began vaping I bought 30 wide ranging samples. Out of those 30 I liked 10. Immediately ordered another 20 and out of those I liked 10…so out 50 different flavors I enjoyed 20. Months later I tried those 30 samples that I disliked and enjoyed all but one. Whether it was because my tastes had changed or they needed steeping I don’t know. Realize also "same name" juices will vary greatly in taste from vendor to vendor as they all have diff recipes and order ingredients from diff Suppliers.

NEVER buying version 1 of anything vape related as it seems very little R&D is involved before this stuff is released and almost always the first release has serious issues and is wayyyy overpriced....thus we always see the "new and improved" versions 2, 3, 4.....

#1: Don't let it become another addiction or obsession

#2: I got an EGO CE4 because I didn't really know better and was told it was a "popular" item. Which is fine, but what I should have done from the start was to NOT buy the kit.

#2A: Buy the tank, buy the battery, buy the cheapo-eGo charger separately, and get yourself a case, and save probably 10-20 dollars doing so. Of my eGo kit I still use the case, the charger, and that's really it. I keep the battery as a backup but purchased a larger EVOD Kangertech battery to go along with my EVOD tanks, of which I have two.

#3: Do not let this become a new addiction. I think most of us want to quit smoking so we started doing this instead, but I can already see that it would be too easy to let this turn into an addiction that costs more than my pack-a-day habit did.

#4: my personal opinion is that using silica as a wicking material may cause more health problems down the line than using something like a hemp wick (just make sure you check your list of allergies first. the wicking material used may cause you problems).

#5: Juice Suppliers can claim "organic" this and "99.9% Medical Grade Nic" That. Fact is. There is not a SINGLE Nicotine Juice factory in the U.S. as of yet. Not one. And I think we've all read what they've found in the seafood, rice, and other foodstuffs shipped in from China WHEN they have the manpower to actually have it tested. So keep this in mind when shopping. The company may just be hyping to add to the price. It would actually be cool if a company like blackstone labs would test the content of some of these juices from the different vendors (they do oil tests) to find out what we're inhaling. I read one report that there was formaldehyde in the juice that they had tested a few years ago.

#5A: In fact, if a Vendor really wants to be trusted, they should have their own supplies tested and post the results on their website for everyone to see. This is really the only way to legitimately make those claims.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but I figured I'd chime in. I learned it is very easy to burn out a cheap clearomizer by trying to thunder chief on your PV. I took two long drags on my eGo c-twist and my clearomizer never hit again. Luckily, the vape shop I bought it from was understanding of my ignorance and gave me a new one. :vapor:

4. Watch PBusardo vids

Heh, PBusardo's videos are very informative and definitely worth watching -- but it seems like his taste is diametrically opposed to mine. Of the juices that I've sampled and he's reviewed, he almost always hates the stuff I like, and likes the stuff I hate.

So I guess that's another vote for "taste is subjective!"

Yeah, I think videos tend to be helpful more for equipment questions than flavor questions. :)

No late nite shopping.

No drinking and shopping.

If you find something you know you are going to like (example, a drip tip), buy 2. You may or may not ever see them again.

On a more serious note, share your experience with supportive friends. Find and attend vape meets. Both of these activities generate your own excitement and self-encouragement. If vape meets/stores are not a possibility, ECF can provide the encouragement, support, and excitement as well.

Late night is the ONLY time to go shopping....lol

I find that sampling is a must - your brain will expect something to taste a certain way and it won't necessarily match up with what you experience. So if a B&M sampler spot is too far to hit up, it's probably best to find a good online vendor who does good sample deals. I've had DIY juicing highly recommended & definitely plan on looking into it once I get my "palate" figured out :p

I think the biggest thing though is to not be afraid to access the wisdom of the community; the only stupid question is the one you don't ask :)

I would say a big lesson is to take product reviews with a grain of salt... especially on flavors.

DIY juice isn't a big deal and its helpful for everyone to have a a set of 100% PG 100% VG 0% nic, and maybe a set of the same in 36mg. This lets you tweak premix juice for both taste or nic level. Some juices are better diluted and some are so strong you could dump a tank and refill with unflavored and still be plenty strong.

If you don't like the juice you buy, put it away for a couple of weeks and come back to it. A lot of the time it needs to steep (age) and the flavor can change dramatically to the better.

Don't get frustrated. Keep trying to find one you can stick with in the meantime.

Can't emphasize this more! I bought a banana flavor and didnt like it at first. Only after one week of the flavor sitting, i tried it and liked it! The taste just kept getting better the longer and longer i had it.

Don't purchase things that look attractive but has a poor or at best mediocre performance

I have purchased a few things that had high price tags on them that perform horribly

Very nice looking... Poor performance

So maybe try and get your hands on one to sample or read plenty of reviews on whatever it is your looking at!

Oh and try not to cry yourself to sleep because yet again you have gone over your vape budget
