I'm sorry, but comparing what to what?
I am very young, about to turn 19. Smoked from 13-18, which wasn't that long.
I just think that until the hard evidence comes out that vaping truely is not harmful to our health that it is best if we, as a community, pass these off as a safer alternative to those looking to get off tobacco. I personally see it to be very possible that vaping be not harmful, just waiting on the long-term scientific research to be done.

The long term scientific data will be in by the time you're 39 or older. I'm 65 and although my kids want me to live forever, I'll consider myself lucky to be around at 85.

If you want "healthy" then you have to quit cold turkey, I've tried it and it doesn't work either at least for me. So I'll keep on using a "healthier" alternative to cigarettes.

There's no guarantees in life. I've had people in my family and group of friends who were health nuts, never smoked, exercised religiously, ate "right," and one of them died of a massive heart attack and the other died of cancer. One thing is for sure, we're all going to die sooner or later.

I am not familiar with the flavoring ingredients used in ejuices and I do know that the vast majority are food grade. I personally am not concerned about ingesting these colorings and flavorings, I just more accept the potential risk of vaping and do see it as reducing the negative effects caused by vaping.
Going back to your request for citations. I have read a couple of articles on the potential negative effects of artificial flavorings. I am on a mobile device since my power is out atm (I even don't have anything to vape with!) But I did manage to find one article I found particularly interesting as it had to do with "smokey flavors". I have no idea if these are used in any tobacco ejuices or how they get the flavors that they make...
This is the article, unfortunately I could not find the medical study itself (it's out there somewhere)! It could be bogus, I'm not sure. All I'm stating with this thread is that any potential (and legitimate) ill-effects to one's health from vaping should be made accessible to the public, as it was with tobacco smoke.
Could Some of Our Favorite Flavorings Be Damaging Our DNA? | TIME.com

From what Ive seen, this forum of world wide membership digs up more articles, studies and questions than Ive ever seen anywhere. People post and talk about and discuss them every single day. All I see in the media is usually a one min to two min spot saying "look at this new trend...is it safe? ... better be carefull".

We are certainly more concerned than the general public and the occasional two minute spot in the local news because WE are the ones vaping. Its OUR health that is at stake, and because of members like Billbeckusa and MANY, Many others, we continually try to stay on top of the leading edge of any studies and information that may rear its head. Negative or posative.

Check yourself and read these forums for yourself. We dont take this lightly.

Ignorance is bliss, regardless of whether there have been scientific studies of the long term health benefits of eciggs why not look at your short term benefits. u dont cough or wheez, you dont smell, u can taste things and smell thing as well, your not flicking ash all over the place.

im sure in the long run there is concern for cancer, but consider that most of us are ex smokers who smoked analogs KNOWING that risk. with so many things that can cause cancer that we do anyways, why worry about a reduced risk of vaping if that is what we enjoy.

people have smoked throughout all of history, and its about time technology has caught up with it, regardless of the health risks.

Many articles still state that we do not know what the 4000+ chemicals of analogs do in our body but so far we generally "know" what ecigg ingredients do and how they react in the "now" sense. Im sure over the next 50 years (just a random random number) that they will find eventually it can cause something detrimental; but plz take your own personal experience of FEELING BETTER that its probably (dont usually like to make things a 100% certainty) a much safer alternative.

and to throw in another probably unnecessary argument, think of other vices u do such as drinking; afterwards your body tells u its bad for u, a lot of other narcotic drugs do this as well. I do not feel the same with vaping unless u use too high of a nic lvl but that is not a hard fix. Shoot, even think about when u drink too much milk u get all bloated and gassy, does anybody feel any side effects from vaping? food for thought

Thank you for the article. Very interesting. Nothing new here at all, and no connection to flavors in e-liquids to cancer. That fact that certain plants produce chemicals to keep animals from eating them, or us from making teas using their leaves, or coffees, using their beans is as old a mankind has been around. Not to be arguementative, but there was no reference to any specific food flavorings, used in eliquids, that are known carcinogens. Here's your exact quote:

Vaping is not "healthy"!

...Yes, we know the VG and PG are harmless to the human body. But the artificial flavorings and colorings in food has been shown to cause cancer, the same ones in our ejuice.

The article was not authoritative and did not support your statement. And that's fine. I doubt there is a study in existence that would support your statement. No big deal, your post was not meant as anything but supportive, I believe, however, inaccurate. I just want to provide information that is as accurate as possible, or opinions of any kind, not clothed as scientific facts. After reading your post again, I wanted to add one more comment on this point:

We are ingesting something in our bodies that is unnatural. The human body was never designed to smoke or inhale large amounts of vapor, so that leads me to believe that there COULD BE some minor health effects.

Humans adapted to the inhalation of large amounts of smoke many thousands of years ago around campfires. This is well known in our studies, and, as long as the body gets enough oxygen, the body is capable of dealing with great amounts of smoke without significant harm. What's dangerous is the chemical additives in cigarettes that are added (599), that combust to form hydrocarbons and 4,000 other compounds, of which more than 100 are known carcinogens. None of these chemicals has ever been found in vaping, and there have been many studies. The most dangerous compounds found were contaminants from the delivery device which operated defectively. For example, vaporizing your O-rings turns out to be a bad thing. Anyway, humans are the most adaptable creatures on Earth, given our level of complexity and organization. We just happen to live in a very unhealthy modern world.

Vaping is not "healthy"!
Now, wait. Let me explain before you guys rip me a new one.
Healthy is a word used to describe something that improves health, like exercising and good food. We are ingesting something in our bodies that is unnatural. The human body was never designed to smoke or inhale large amounts of vapor, so that leads me to believe that there COULD BE some minor health effects.
Vaping is a reduced risk alternative! We know that vaping is so much better than smoking tobacco, but we dont know that it is harmless.
You have to realize that we are the guinea pigs for this new technological frontier. Yes, we know the VG and PG are harmless to the human body. But the artificial flavorings and colorings in food has been shown to cause cancer, the same ones in our ejuice.
We have to be realistic and entertain the opposing side too, that's how research get done and facts are found.
By the way, I'm very happy that vaping does exist to give an alternative to all smokers. We have all seen it improve lives.

Fair enough, but the reason we mainly use this forum is to educate ourselves regarding ecigarettes and vaping. If there are any side effects to vaping, which aren't proven to my knowledge, which would you realistically prefer, smoking or vaping?

Healthy to me, is something that doesnt degrade your health. It doesnt have to improve it, just as long as I'm not going backwards.

To me exercise is healthy, because your doing what your body should do. Knock the dust off and get moving. It's not always an improvement, just getting back to where it should.

But to me, going from smoking to vaping. I'm not going to say its " healthy "

" healthier " maybe. But I'm still inhaling a mixture of glycols and flavoring, it's not a perfect system. But it's better than the alternative.

But I agree with the OP, sometimes I see " healthy smoke..... Healthy vapor "
That is a bit misleading

And I'm not vaping to be cool and don't mind being a guinea pig for the things I believe in. I truly love vaping and the improvements it's done to my life.
I am by absolutely no means trying to knock down vaping or take the FDAs side. I want that on the record! ;)

We all breathe amniotic fluid in the womb. Breathing vapor is relative. I see where you live and I'm familiar with summers there. 90% humidity IS breathing vapor, especially compared to the Arizona desert floor at 10% or less. According to my doctors, the miniscule amount of benign contaminants in vaping compounds doesn't even ping the radar when compared to the 4000+ glumps of crud in every drag of an analog cig.

A no-brainer by definition, is resistant to over-thinking. This is a no-brainer.

If you're concerned about inhaling food flavoring, you could try vaping unflavored e-juice. It doesn't taste bad, just a bit bland and boring.

And while you're at it, please don't eat any foods with additives. Unfortunately, you just eliminated over 99% of the Standard American Diet. Add to this the pesticides, GMO's, and herbicides in our foods grown in nutrient deficient soils.....well, you get the picture. So, why pick on vaping?

Reminds me of an obscure ICP skit on one of their CD's: "OK, I'll just have a salad then." "Better grow yourself one!" ROFL
