There's usually a tradeoff, but that margin is narrowing. The sub-ohmers tend to vape at 3-6mg nic using high VG juice. The flavor is pretty darn good with low nic low PG using high amps. The recent (high end) devices are being made to suit the demand for both huge clouds and great flavor. Reduced chamber drippers like the Quasar and gennys like the Kraken are outstanding in delivering moist, full flavor while appeasing the sport vapers out there. I still go to the Kayfun, or better yet the KFMini, for the best all around flavor. The HH357 still comes in second for me.

Some guy just posted a carto make-shift for the KFL on the KFL thread. I appreciate guys tinkering with their set ups trying to improve the vape, but sometimes I have to laugh with the stuff they come up with. 
Okay yall.. I tried it, I lit up my 3W Laser Diode IR laser and focused it onto a piece of soaking wet silica (3mm). Took about 2 seconds but It started to create vapor. I blew on it to increase airflow and vapor density immediately went crazy. Tried to take pictures but my camera is overly sensitive to IR scatter from the laser, nothing but a purple glowing ball... power requirements are 5VDC at 10A. Main problem is going to be juice sputter, it will get all over the focusing lens and ruin the focus in short order UNLESS the laser/lens is more than 3" from wick... but I can see it now... even more regulations due to a laser being WELL beyond the 5mW range.
Would you believe I never tried a HH357?! After going through dozens of atties in my first year of Vaping I wasn't about to drop $22 on just one.. Plus I was already shifting to carto tanks when they came out.

Last time I rebuilt my KFLs I did true micro coils 1/16 instead of the 5/64. I think I'll got back to my mini coils...I've had a lot more trouble with the cotton wick burning/breaking in the middle of a tank than I did before and I assume it's from the smaller diameter? I haven't noticed any difference in flavor/vapor. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to restring them.
I burn my 5/64ths cotton in half in my little RBAs. It's because there is not enough juice at the end of the refill cycle to keep it from burning.
I found 1/16th too small too, IG and the 5/64 is just the right size for cotton yarn.

If I ever tire of buying premade ceramics for the Sophia I would probably use the 1/16 on it as it's much smaller. That's why we tinker..and it's pretty inexpensive to change it all out.
I'm moving away from cotton. It's easy to re wick, but the flavor doesn't match silica. I've been wrapping micro coils around silica lately and its been working great. You have to get the coils right as you wrap and you can't change the wick out, but you can rinse and dry burn to your heart's desire. Much better flavor and no split wicks.

I never moved away from silica. It's simple and it's effective.
I've been thinking of trying this but haven't actually done it. Glad to hear your experience with it and will try it out this weekend.

I moved down to micro's for a while, but my favorite juice wasn't tasting quite right. My last build was a bit bigger (2 bits up from the 1/16 in my set, don't remember the exact size) & I'm getting much better flavor from it. With the increased resistance I'm going to back off 1 coil on the next build to see what I get. This one is teetering between 2.5 & 2.6 ohms according to the Provari.
Yeah, what the heck?! I'll try my 3mm silica through my 5/64 micro the next time I re-wick. Still have to get through the 100ft or so that I have left. I want to see if it can keep up with what the cotton yarn has been doing for me.
You might have made vaping history with that , wonder if that's been attempted before ?
If you can think it up chances are someone else has too. I have definitely read talk of laser powered vaping.
Talking and doing are two entirely different things . BK actually has the weaponry and knowledge to do it , this is the first time I've read of someone using a laser with enough power to vaporize eliquid without a coil if you find a previous reference come back and give us a link .

Heh... that's why everyone needs to experiment with their own stuff.
I tried a silica wick in my KFC once.... took all of about half a tank before I pulled it. It tasted HORRID.... It was wicking just fine, but there was just some nasty flavor that overpowered the juice.... with cotton micros, only thing I taste is the juice.

Lol..remember I said I'd try silica again during my next build?! Well I did, and then went back to my cotton yarn too..
