Progress on the RBAs:

PHOENIX: I built a wick and coil by myself and it is working fine. Yay!
GENESIS/ZOMBIE: Still baffling me. I built a coil and got it running, but the vapor was weak and the flavor puny. I re-rebuilt the coil and now I get alternating hits of stale/watery and throat-searing burnt. Poo.

So it is strictly one day at a time for me. I might add that if I were paying myself an hourly rate for all the effort I've put into this, I'd be WAY in the red by now :p

I can relate. Making the wick and silica coil for my Reo is super easy, works with 100% consistency every time.
Now my Genesis rba's sure are more work, but are getting there slowly. I got my Cobra up and running quite good now, didn't oxidise the wick, just burned it with a lighter after rolling, and using Kanthal 32 for a 1.6 ohm coil.
A couple puffs with the 36mg DF in it sure makes my head spin... :p

The Genny's do take a lot more time to learn compared to wrapping a coil on Silica. Once you get it going though, the results are outstanding! Another thing to note about the genny's that I use my 32 AWG Kanthal on, I usually run them around 40 - 50% hotter than my cartos and atties. The thicker coil takes a lot more heat to get going and likes having a higher voltage/wattage setting.

Note to self, when you switch from your 3.0ohm Nova to your 1.3ohm Did-a-like, don't forget to turn the volts down! waug! 8-o

I have to keep reminding myself, usually the hard way, to do this too when switching from my carto tank at 3.5 ohms, vaping at 5.5v or slightly higher, to my RBA which is currently at 2.1 ohms! This past week is the first time, first time, I've tasted what burnt juice is all about.

Ok those that use gennys and SS mesh. Running just a lighter over the mesh is sufficient? I don't have to torch until glowing? I wanna give this DUD another shot before parting with it.

The Cobra pictured a few posts above say it works :)
Did not do anything with the wick , other than going over it with a lighter after rolling it.
Getting a Genesis going is frustrating at times, but it's getting better and better.

Thx blix. Ok so I have a question for those that have battery knowledge. I need to get some protected 18650's and the site in cruising has many of them in many different mah. The one I am looking at is 3400mah. Why are there so many different ones and what is the benefits of having a 3400mah over a 2100mah? Besides battery life. Now that's a huge difference. I need some help. Also need to get some 18350's and I think I have those picked out. There are only 1 or 2 different ones to chose from.

Has anyone tried these yet? Vapeonly 3.5ml BCC

Looks like the next step up from a CE3 and changeable head too.

I just ordered 3 of these from got vapes last week. Can't wait to test them out. Kinda like a bottom coil mini vivi nova. I'm hoping for the best... cause the BC T3's ain't doing it for me.

I wouldn't use or suggest protected batteries for a genny, AW IMR only. You will be sadly disappointed with protected as they probably wont work at all. Genny's work best at low ohms/high current.

The bigger, single wick genny's are very easy to make a wick and coil for. Lots of room to work. In my experience of course. I just watched and followed Zens ZAP video.

It's not necessarily for a genny. Probably be used mostly with carto tanks. For my mechanical mods I need em. I have a silver bullet and now a natural. I have always been led to believe that it's smart to use protected batts in mechanical mods. Now I could be wrong and that's why I am asking questions. If someone knows better any info would be appreciated.

I just go by what the manufacturer recommends. Zen - AW IMR, iHybrid - AW IMR, Provape - AW IMR, Reo - AW IMR, and on, and on... I do know that the AW's are "safer" batteries. My Vmods have protected 14500 batts but that is what came with them and they work well. My Telescope is fed AW's and when I get the EA mod and a GP Paps they will be fed AW's as well.

I sound like some kinda fan boy, ewww! I do know there are some mods that take protected only, though.

I know of plenty of people who use IMRs in mechanical mods with no issues, but that's been a concern of mine as well. I use IMRs in all of my mods, but none of them are mechanical.

I understand the necessity for IMRs when running a low ohm RBA, but what happens if you get a short? Does the coil simply pop, or does the battery go into meltdown mode? This is a big reason I haven't picked up a mechanical mod yet. I'm not at the point yet where I'm wrapping coils that work every time. I'll usually get a tank out of it until it starts going wonky on me, so I'm not confident enough to be putting a coil I made on an unregulated, unprotected mod. It may be easier to get them to work with lower ohm coils though - I have a ProVari V1, so I have to wrap at a higher ohm to get more wattage out of it.

I wouldn't bother with protected batteries. They aren't rated for high drain applications, so they won't work with boosted vv mods which require high drain batteries. They also won't work with a Kick which also requires high drain IMR batteries. AW IMR batteries are the highest rated safer chemistry batteries out there. They rate a maximum of 10amp drain limit. You would never come close to that. I wrapped a 0.8ohm coil and with a fresh battery pushed 5.1 amps. A protected battery will never let you get that high but a good IMR can handle the amps no problem. Efest IMR are also a high rated battery and a bit cheaper, but the pros will still recommend AW as the go-to choice for quality. For a mechanical, go with AW IMR, charge your batteries often, get a Vape Safe fuse or a Shortstop fuse if you want extra protection. You won't regret it.

Nice Xfoo! I want an EA Mod for my AC9 genny, or a GP Paps, or Bear Brass Mod, or..........

The EA is great. The Chi_You is in a different class, imo. Sold exclusively at Vape Revolution. Their pre-orders are filled but they will be stocking units at their B&M location which is 40 minutes from my house. They'll only have a few so I have to act fast when they get them in.

I been using an AW IMR with my silver bullet for months. No problems. I just been hearing to use protected. I just wanted to make sure before I went and bought batteries to know what I was buying. I by all means don't know "everything" believe it or not. I know that's hard to believe but yeah I'm still learning. X I think I knew you would chime in with useful info and I appreciate it. I just got a Smoktech natural and need to get some batts. Also wanted another 18650.

I'm literally one step ahead of you on the learning curve. I'm asking a lot of questions on other threads. Just passing on the info I picked up along my journey. :toast:

They've said they'll have some in their online store when they come in, but this is one of those times when I almost wish I was still in my old home town (I grew up in Cerritos near where Vape Revolution is now). If they have multiples in the store, don't tell me, lest I try to bribe you. :p
