Chak you need to pickup 26650's for the beast , much better battery life and less voltage drop during a hit . Since you know my thoughs on the SVD , I will say the SVD 2 might be worth a look for the fact that it's packing an Evolv chip , Pb's site says they're gonna be under $100 . I know Bronze, Retic and BK will back the iTaste SVD, but after reading the thread (trying to read actually, damn browser is acting up on me lately) and the talk of the ZNA clone and VAMO v5 I'm wondering which would be the best bet for a reliable backup. I know asking 10 different peeps here will generate 10 different answers, but would still like to hear opinions from the gallery. I'm not much interested in going sub-ohm if the mod has the power to heat up standard or high resistance coils fast. Most my vaping is done at 1.3 to 2.0 ohm from 7 to 9 watts. I do have a 1.1ohm setup on the Panzer/Magma and it's working fine. I don't see any reason to go lower aside from an experimental point. The last day or so I've been running a dual 30g, 1.3ohm in the Big Buddha on the Panzer - on a fresh battery, it's putting out nice dense plume of vapor with flavor on par if not slightly fuller than the KayFun lites I have. The vapor and flavor started to drop when the battery got to around 3.6 volts - 3-4 hours on 18650 1600mAh AW bats. All in all, I'm quite pleased with the Big Bud's performance. I must have put at least 8ml of Heavenly Tobacco in there the night before last and this morning the coils/wicks are still holding up well with the juice level half way down the chamber wall. I'm wondering if I can run it dry by the end of the day - it doesn't go out with me, but while sitting here, my hand reaches for it before any other device. That could be just fascination with a new toy, though. Can't get over the heft of the thing - with the BigBud on deck it's weighing in at 600 gm! Maybe I should take it out and about as a backup to the Gerber.![]()
The Vamo v5 is RMS only output... PWM is still not the same as DC output and the difference is more than just the pulses, or perhaps because of them.
Using PWM ( in RMS or AVG mode either one )... the unit turns full on and then off and then they average the output to give you what approximates the amount of voltage you have it set to. On the Vamo's... the full on voltage is 6v. So the juice will seem to taste burnt quicker ( at a lower setting ) than if it was just a straight DC output.
Now... RMS mode does approximate the power equivalance of a pure DC mode closer than the AVG mode does... but it's still not the same.
Finally some quiet time , wife is taking a nap .Got the Switch for the Stingray X cleaned and polished with strips of Scotchbrite and emory cloth , lubed up with a tiny bit of teflon lube I use on my guns and it's butter smooth now , topped the X with the Heron with a 1ohm build , beautiful combination . These 26 ga or 28ga macros with 10 or more wraps just have way too much wire to heat up.
Yup, which is why folks running those or lower seem to use such high wattages to compensate..
Hmmm I know the Gplat was a scam as far as price goes , secret formula my ... ! But the 24ga Gplat BK gave me acts like 30ga , it heats up fast , trouble is the resistance is closer to 18ga kanthal , I ran 11 wraps at 2.4mm ID and it gave me .5 ohms on a single coil , duals would be .25 , way too hot for me . It turned out to be stainless steel welding wire , 316 or 317 , somebody brought some to a metallurgist that works for a defense contractor for analysis , the metallurgist identified it and said although it wasn't designed for use as a heating element it obviously can be used that way but advised that kanthal was preferable basically because that's what it's made for . Nothing was said about health concerns one way or the other but the Gplat has a much lower melting temperature so no 5 second dryburns with it . The whole thing was a scam though by 2 SOB's that bought the wire in bulk and relabeled it as a secret formula that they developed and sold it at ridiculous prices .I don't know much about the Gplat. Last I left it, GimmeGreen was saying he didn't know how safe it was. Never saw the followup.
