I don't use cartos much, but I have read 4-8 refills, depending on the manufacturer. Some say 4-5, others 5-8 or somewhere in between.

I understand they hold more juice and distribute it more efficiently, but it seems like a waste when a good atomizer will last much longer, and cartridges as long as you want them to.

I wish there was a high end carto that could be refilled around 20 times. I might give them another try.

Cartos is all I use. I would estimate that I get 8-10 refills. At which point they start getting hard to draw- they are always on a constant downward spiral, a brand new out of the package one draws so nicely. Each refill gets a bit stiffer. After about 8-10 refills the draw is so tight that I really don't enjoy it anymore.

Some people have really elaborate ways to clean and re-use them. I just toss them. I figure at approx $2 each, and each lasts me 2-3 days, it is still a whole lot less expensive then my $7 per day smoking habit was.

I have on order right now a box of 510 Mega cartos, a box of 801 mega cartos, and a box of 808 jumbo cartos. Going to test all 3 and see what sort of lifespan, draw, throathit, etc I get from those.

I have't actually counted refills, but I find them to last about 2-3 days of non-exclusive use (alternating between it and a regular atomizer). I love these cartomizers (the flavor and vapor are better than with an atomizer), but I'm experiencing a high failure rate. None have actually been DOA, but one only lasted a couple minutes before it stopped working, another lasted a couple hours and the one I'm trying to use right now seems to have some sort of air flow blockage. Basically, I think these are awesome when they work, but since they fail so easily, they end up being more expensive than regular atomizers.

telsie- your failures are odd. I have gone thru 50 of them, and none of them have failed. All of them have become harder to draw after 8-10 refills, so I guess that is just normal. I agree that it does tend to be more expensive than atty's, but I don't like dripping so I have to deal with the expense of buying cartos. No big deal though, it's still cheaper then smoking analogs.

I speak from the 808 side of things, and I use 510s now as well.
808's have gotten me as many as 20 refills, the 510's seem similar. The biggest killer seems to be the fluid choice.
I cannot get a single carto in either 510 or 808 to hold up over 1 refill with Johnson Creek Dk Choc, even with the fluid thinned 30% with vodka. It clogs the atomizer fast.

So to me it's the fluids. Thick gummy ones will kill em quicker.

I use 510 cartomizers all the time, and I like them.
I have some that I've refilled 6 or 7 times now, and while they are starting to get "tight", still work.

(I also have found that I can clean them, but it's an involved process that requires Everclear, a baby med syringe, a toothpick and time to dry. But it does work. I wouldn't recommend my method for most folks, tho. It can be a PITA if you're in a hurry.)

Would you boil em like 808's?

No.
Joye 510 cartos do not like heat.
The plastic will warp if they get too hot.

I basically pressure flush them with everclear, then dry flush them with air to get the excess alcohol out, then set them aside to air dry in a Tupperware bowl lined with paper towels for a couple of days.
I use Everclear instead of isopropyl so that if there's even a wisp left, at least it's not toxic.

What plastics?
I always remove the caps on 808's and boil. I dissected a 510 and in that particular model no plastics were obvious, cept cap

A genuine Joye 510 cartomizer is plastic.

The OP was asking about the Joye 510 cartomizer, and I assumed that's what we were talking about.
What were you dissecting?

I wish I knew the brand.
It was a kit given to me sold by Wordup. I boiled out the 3 carto's and they were fine, but didn't last long.
That was why I was curious.

Ahh, maybe a Boge?
I know some some companies list them with names like "Joye 510 Boge cartomizers".
That could be what you got.

I'm not super familiar with cartos.
I went from carts to dripping and basically bypassed cartos until I saw the genuine Joyes being reviewed on YouTube by folks like Cozzcon:

and Sense Field (aka FieldofVapor).

I tried a pack and loved them. Now I use them for all my everyday flavors, and I also use just the atomizer in them for dripping too. (Picked up that tip from lrd3 in his post titled "turning cheep cartos into attys" thread.)

Anyway, it's all good.

Sounds like a issue with 510's
KR808D-1's I've boiled multiple times and refilled as many as 18 times before they just don't give up enough vapor. Others have claimed as many as 100 refills. I don't believe that. They don't draw harder when older either.
Downside is they burn/scorch very easy.

I still find the 510's smother and a better performer. That's why I'm attempting to use them on a 808 battery. The battery has a lil more voltage, and seems to last a shade longer.
At least those are my experiences.

It seems if there is a center hole, there should never be a reduced draw, and then the only issue should be clogging of the atomizer , which would make it "fluid dependent' on how long before the atomizer loads up.
I do notice "some" 510 carto's don't have the center hole (horiz coil?).

I also use Johnson Creek VG, and their Dk Choc is a carto killer, and one refill is all I get "if lucky". The stuff is thick and gummy.
Now their Domestic, and Tenn Cured seem to go long on carto life. !'ve run 110 drops through a dual coil 510, not including the 70 drops it took to fill it. No sign of it even thinking of slowing down.

So (as I have noticed) the hole and the fluid are key.

Piggin it
