Lifespan?

Do we have any idea of what the lifespan is of a Prodigy? Are there any parts that can be expected wear out or need replacing that I can't buy?

I'm not an alarmist type, but since we do have the gloom and doom of the FDA healthmongers breathing down our necks, I want to have enough supplies/equipment on hand in the event of a ban to last me awhile. Not that I intend to quit vaping - I am thinking of a ban in terms of a temporary setback until the dust settles, and at some point I believe we will be able to buy freely again.

If the ban does happen, will PS be able to legally ship pieces of hardware? Is there anything beyond attys and batteries that I should get now to keep my Prodigy up and running? Or can I expect it to keep working unless I run over it with the car or drop it in the toilet.

Not the most well written post, but I think I'm getting my point across. Pain pills are making me both stupid and silly.

I'm no lawyer but I don't think they could ban hardware, it's just a battery holder. They could only ban liquid WITH NICOTINE. In my opinion, even with a ban, I don't think the Chinese will quit making e-cigs, liquid w/nicotine and all the other goodies and shipping them to us and I really don't think the FDA/DEA have the man power or the money to completely stop all Chinese shipments, maybe the large and random ones. As far as PS goes, they could stop all references to e-cigs call them personal vaporizers or personal fog machines and keep on rolling, well without the sale of liquid with nicotine. Again, I'm no lawyer but I really don't think the government can stop this now, just look at the war on drugs and the drug paraphernalia industry, Chong still making HUGE amount of monies with a product that's intended use with a illegal substance! Once again, no lawyer just personal opinions and can't speak for what PS does in the event of a ban.

I hope you are right. Problem is who is going to be left to sell this hardware? I hope Puresmoker will be able to make enough money to keep the site operational.


JustMeAgain , The only moving part is the switch so I'm thinking that if you are careful with the other parts they should last for a long long time.

Hmmmm, Kardjunkie just may be right...consider the fact that our government can't even keep illegal aliens out, how could they possibly keep up w/small shipments.

One thing that I'm not even sure where I read this, but if it becomes illegal to sell ecigs isn't there some corresponding law that makes it illegal to receive (or order) a shipment? I wish I could remember what it was I read about that.

I was wondering the same thing, Kevin, about vendors that sell hardware in the US. At what point is it just not cost effective for them to stay in business?

Are the switches something I could pick up at radio shack or something should I ever need one?

Our US based merchants are subject to harassment by ASH. I'm not sure about the legal side of this issue. I guess we will have to wait and see what all the ban will include.

Hopefully the switch is generic enough to find an alternate source for.

Guys, here are a few things to keep in mind with your switches.

1. NEVER PULL IT OUT FROM THE TOP OF THE PRODIGY. Take the adapter off, and push the batteries up into the unit until the switch pops out. So many people try to pull it out from the top, and then they break the connections inside. No good.

2. Don't use any atomizers that look like the ones in the Prodigy/PT USers please read sticky! If there's no silicone gasket, or the base is squished (which is usually caused by overtightening it to the adapter), don't use it. You will burn up the resistor, and the switch will smell god awful. Oh, and sometimes won't work after that.

Now when you think your switch is dead, try these few things, because you would not believe the number of switches that come back to us that are supposedly dead, and really they are perfectly fine- just weren't aligned properly.

1. With the adapter on the unit, push the batteries up in the tube. This ensures that the switch and adapter are making solid contact.
2. Remove the switch and wipe off (with a dry cloth- don't soak it, etc!!) all the connections very carefully.
3. Replace the button housing and try it again. Sometimes things just aren't lined up!

A week or so ago I was asking about a sticky switch and you told me to loosen the adaptor (which seems to have done the trick ) but there was some discussion in the thread about cking the switch for burrs and PuffinStuff directed me to the link above, which says to remove batteries first. So, if it's better to push up on the batteries to get the switch housing out, you might want to address this post.

Just thought you might want to know.

Just me again, thank you so much for addressing this point!! I dont like fear mongering at all but do want to be prepared in the event of a ban.

I love my Prodigy and pt. I cant think of anything I would that would wear out on the prodigy other than the switch. (attys of course, which I have from PS) I see that PS has extra switches on the website and I am going to order an extra to keep on hand. If anyone has any other suggestions for stocking up for the prodigy please post.

Casey, I am so glad that you addressed the proper way to take a switch out. Thank You! I have only removed my switch one time to fix my sticking button but am so glad to know how to do it properly should the need arise. I dont remove my switch to clean the connections as I use an eraser on a pencil to reach the connection inside the sleeve, so no need to take the switch out.

I agree, Puff - no reason to freak out or yell fire until there is one. But there's nothing wrong w/planning ahead, either.

Casey, I am assuming that if there is a ban in the near future, there would be no reason that you would not be able to sell switches, adapters, or any other parts because those disassembled pieces really don't amount to anything by themselves.

In fact, since it is really just a battery housing could you not continue to sell the Prodigy - maybe without an atomizer -even if there was an all out ban?

Of course, we all know that it's wayyyy more than 'just a housing' but we'll keep that to ourselves. What the FDA don't know won't hurt 'em.

That said, I was having a bit of a problem with mine yesterday. It's probably user error - I think I've said in here that I've hurt my back and am on pain medicine, so who knows what I was doing. Might have mistaken the vaccuum cleaner hose for my Prodigy then wondered why it tasted weird.

I am dripping 3-4 drops and having that burny taste after just a couple of drags. I changed attys, batteries cleaned the contacts w/rubbing alcohol and tried a different flavor, and I went back and looked at the gasket pics and I'm not even sure that really apply to me since I'm using a 510 atty, but everything seems ok 'cept the taste.

I also watched Spikey's Prodigy video and I've made sure I've not tightened anything too much or left anything too loose, but it all seems ok.

I know this is one of those *V8, slap myself in the forehead* problems, but I was doing fine and somehow I've gotten off track. What am I missing?

All joking aside (well, maybe not all), I think it'll continue working even after dropping it in the toilet. Whether you'd want to or not is a different question entirely.

Hey JustMe- that burning taste means it's refill time. I recommend 3-5 drops after every 4-5 puffs on the 510

Also, don't depress the button for more than 2-4 seconds per drag on the 510. You can continue to draw for another few seconds once you release the button. Hope this helps!

I panicked at first, but picked it up and tried it out... vaped like a champ. Of course, this isn't the same as submerging it, but when they say it's sealed, they mean it.

It's like a Timex... Takes a licking and keeps on ticking! Showing my age w/that one...hope ya'all are old enough to get it (I bet Casey isn't ). If you're not old enough, that's just going to sound weird.

I don't know why I have had such a steep learning curve w/this whole process. I'm not usually like this, but I know there's a giant 'Ahha' moment in the near future where it's all going to finally come together. In the meantime, I appreciate your putting up w/all the questions.

Believe me, there is a learning curve when switching to high voltage vaping. Steve will tell you just how ...... he was getting about the # of atomizers I burned out when I first started testing them up.
