Got my PS 510 USBpass yesterday and it works unbelievably well, however, I've found that it will only work with one power adapter that I currently own(the infamous Kensington Model#KB8021US/K33396-which is more of a power pack then an adapter). The PT will not work with my computers USB port. It also immediately trips 2 AC/USB adapters I own(Both bought at Radio Shack- both 5V one rated at 500mA the other at 1A). I'm certain the reason is the PT is drawing to much current. I had a AC/USB rated at 2.0 A but it was defective and am awaiting a replacement.

I know Steve at PS is working on a list of adapters that will work with the PT, but I thought we all could help him out. If anyone has had success with a particular power adapter, list it on this thread, with model name and # as well as where you purchased it so others can gain from your experience. It may also be a good idea to mention what type of PT you're using(510, 901, 801) as the resistances and currents pulled are most likely different(although I could be wrong about that). Certainly all atty's have a slightly different resistance, therefore, circuit will pull a different current, therefore, an adapter one person may have had success with may not work for everyone else. But at least there will be a general list of adapters known to work for the majority of PT users.

Again, I have a 510 PS USBpass and I would like to add the Kensington Power Pack(Model#KB8021US/K33396) purchased at Best buy to the list.

Kensington - Battery Pack with Charger for Apple® iPod® and iPhone - 33396

It's also available on eBay and a myriad of other online retailers.

I'll be watching this thread and hoping to find answers. Crap, I was gonna stop on the way home tonight and try to pick up an AC-to-USB wall plug, thinking that would solve the not-very-warm atty problem when I tried my computer's USB port... now it sounds like it might not be that simple.

Also, thoughtful of you to include the Kensington link. I have read "Kensington" here for MONTHS and finally dug through posts last night to figure out exactly which Kensington product everybody's talking about.

I just got the stones up to actually plug the PS USBpass into my destop USB 2.0 port(although I've been told this might not be a wise decision-due to the possibilty of overloading the USB controller) but, IT WORKED and worked fairly well(great, warm vapor production and throat hit). So add a desktop USB 2.0 port to the working list of power supplies.
But use at your own risk.

I also purchased a little 5.00 usb hub at Office Depot and it seems to work just fine, but now I am afraid I will overload USB and mess up computer, so IDK if I should use it or not. I have no clue how these things work 8-o

El cheapo unit from Office Depot. USB Hub, AC powered, 4 ports. So cheap I wouldn't bat an eye if it dropped dead tonight. Never connected it or my PS PT up directly to one of my computer's USB ports.

Oh the one you have does NOT work through your computer. I have one of those somewhere I think from a long time ago....now off to find it in old unused computer components LOL

the Puresmoker passthrough tht I have is in use with the 801 adapter. It was not working well with a Belkin 4-port USB hub powered by a wall adapter (not the computer) and computer usb ports were not doing well either. It was much weaker than using the Prodigy battery body with the same atomizers. I plugged it into the wall charging unit that comes from Blucigs and it's working the way it should.

Thanks Lucy; Here's a link to that particular model targus PA050 USB hub:

Yep, I hear you. I KNOW the PT's supposed to work better than this, and it's not happening with my computer, and a little better but still not great on a Kodak wall/USB charger (they had almost nothing at Best Buy and I grabbed the only one I found).

I plugged it into the wall charging unit that comes from Blucigs and it's working the way it should.

I looked at the Blu site and found this (attached pic) on chargers -- Is this the wall charger you mentioned? This is a plugs-into-the-wall charger with a standard-size USB port, correct? Does this give you performance similar to the Prodigy itself? Finally and most important, do you love being hammered with questions like this? :D

Hey Markarich,

I paid maybe less than half for that hub from Office Depot. Don't know if they were tired of looking at them hanging on the rack or what, but it was what I was expecting to pay. And I thought that was the normal price.

What was important to me was that the limiting factor was the device in use, i.e. my PS PT. There is no intelligent control between either the hub or or the PT to limit whether the port gets all the capability of the whole hub, and vice versa, the PT doesn't seem to have any intelligence on how much current it can pull to get the emf it wants to provide that cumulus cloud of vapor. The only factors I'm dealing with here are the 5v USB port output and the amperage rating of the AC power supply on the physical gauge of wire feeding the hub. And PureSmoker has already manufactured the PT with the supply conductors that are overrated to prevent voltage drop due to impedence of the PS PT equipment.

On the ac -> dc tranformer I'm going from 120vac -> 5vdc @ .5A, but from the 5vdc to the hub port(s) I've got 3A to play with. Only the wire gauge is my limiting factor.

I'm pretty sure someone has already said this a lot better and far more succinctly than I just did. We can only hope.

That was kind of a tedius boring spew there wasn't it? But what the hell, I'm punching the submit reply button anyway.

yes Shan you found the same Blucigs wall charger I'm using for powering the PS PT. The usb plug side of the passthrough plugs right into the wall plug part without needing adapters or other cables. It's only slightly less powerful than fully charged batteries in the Prodigy. It's close enough to satisfy me after 2 days of wondering why I couldn't get a decent hit out of the passthrough.

Its label says:

OP DC: 3-6v 1.2A Max, 5W Max
Set: DC 5V 0.5A

and in another part of the label under that it says again:

OP: DC 5V 0.5A

I'm feeling like labels aren't worth reading and should buy a multimeter

Sorry about the price thing, I was just trying to show a link to give people an idea of what the device looked like and that it was available. But the info is good to know. So basically this hub will provide 3A at any one of its 4 USB ports(providing that one hub is the only in use). This certainly will power the PT to full capacity.

I might have found the winner here. And I guarantee you, you will not find a cheaper one on the market. Its a small AC to USB 2amp max port. Here's the link:

USB Dual Power Adapter

$1.95 for the unit and $1.95 for the shipping(order as many as you'd like)

I just got it yesterday and it works great(better then my Kensington). The only problem I can see is the shipping took a little longer then I like(about 8 days), but the guy is super easy to get ahold of(his name is Steve) and he says he will make sure the shipping improves. Mention your buying this from the e-cig forum and he'll make sure you get it quickly. He also states he has alot left in stock. They are not made cheaply either. You'll be suprised at the packaging when you receive it.

What a sweeeeeet deal!!! PureSmoker ought to buy up everyone of them and sell them for twice as much. Who would care at $4.00 if you got something you knew was gonna work? Geez, at $6.00, I'd still think I was being blessed with a new thing that works and I didn't have to go hunting for it myself.

The other thing that PureSmoker should sell is that clip holder gadget for the PS PT. Who found that thing anyway? I hate it when I can't give credit where credit is do. Dang!

I think there's better stuff available. I see some possible 2 or 3 amps suggestions. There must be something like it available in brick & mortar stores, like where iPod accesories are sold.

This Blu cigs charger I'm using has become an experiment to see if atomizers can live longer with this particular power source, since it does seem to be a little more gentle on atomizers than a pair of those Tenergy batteries.

Davoda: Cool! I'm picking up one o' those bad boys. I use 510 attys but your post rang so many bells with me, I'll take a chance on a slight difference in outcome for ten bucks or so.

I hear ya Davoda, I think there probably are better things available, But for the price($1.95) you can't beat it with a stick. Also, I haven't been able to find ANY adapter over 1000mA in stores for USB(Sure you can get powered hubs and power packs like the Kensington, but you pay a significantly higher price). However, the guy who sells these $1.95 2amp USB adapters claims they WILL be available in stores like Wal-Mart in a few months.

Hm. He might've been talking about "better things" than the Blu cig adapter he'd mentioned, because he quoted my post about that after he wrote that. Not sure, but maybe. Now I'm gonna hit your link, thanks.

(Week from hell and I'm TIRED and should be piled in bed snoozing, and where am I? Here, reading about paraphernalia.)

Yes. Better than the Blu cigs charger is what I meant, and I mean it even more now that the charger crapped out on me :nah: I guess it was not meant to be left plugged into a wall all the time.
