Time to offer my amended review of the Smowell DPV-50 (a.k.a, "Welly" or "Smelly," depending on where one stands).

I've been using my blue Welly as part of my bedroom nightstand arsenal for some time now. Most of my favorite higher-wattage regulated boxes sit on my desk where I work (and chain-vape) all day---Cloupor Minis, iStick 50, Kanger KBOXs, iPV Mini and Mini 2s, loaded up with my chosen tanks, RTAs, and RDAs---so my bedside nightstand gets a somewhat more second-tier selection---iStick 20s and 30s mainly---which I vape before going to sleep.

Of those, the Welly has become my go-to box. With a drilled-out Kayfun (for better air flow) filled with my DIY version of GoodLifeVapor Deadly Sin, I find myself reaching for the Welly more often than my iSticks with their Erlkonigins, Nautilus, and GS-Air tanks. I like the Welly's shape and feel in my hand. I've grown quite fond of the deep blue color of the case, the finish of which is just crinkly enough to be non-slippery. Though less heavy than some of my other mods, the Welly feels no more "crushable" than my iSticks, in part perhaps because I USB-charge it and never take it apart to remove the 18650. Battery life has proven to be exactly as one would expect for a single 18650 IMR used at 20 watts. Since it gets only night-time duty, a recharge every 3-4 days is standard.

Performance has been quite good---flawless, really. No firing delay, with full, instant, and apparently accurate power (identical to my iStick 50 at the same power), and no misfires ever (something I can't say about my iStick 20s and 30s, which suffer the occasional mystery misfire). I don't run extremely low sub-ohm builds, so I can't say whether the Welly auto-reduces the power for a 0.2 ohm coil. For the moderate resistances (0.5-0.9 ohms) and wattages (generally no more than 40W, and mostly less than that) I use, the Welly performs perfectly. To be fair, I wouldn't run a cloud-chasing tank like an Arctic or Herakles with 0.2 ohm heads on the Welly, but I don't own either of those tanks, and I'm a flavor-chaser anyway, so it's a moot point. (I imagine that vapers who buy those very low sub-ohm tanks probably own 100-150 watt boxes, to get the max out of their fog-machine capabilities.)

All in all, the Smowell DPV-50 has won me over, and I now regard the $26-shipped I paid as money well spent. No, I wouldn't ante up $60 for it---unlike the Sigelei 100W Plus I recently ordered from Gearbest for that sale price---but, in my opinion, the Welly is a decent buy as a bargain box, especially given the additional 20 watts of headroom it provides over a 30-watt mod. The extra power comes in very handy for something like an Atlantis tank or many RDAs.

Yeah... My Smowell has become my D2D Mod. Fits my hand like a Glove.

I think my IPV Mini is getting Lonely just sitting there with its Paint Chipping.

LOL

This pleases me greatly. Not just because I'm glad they're working out for you, but my BOGO might be a hit. Sweet. :thumb:

This is one of the pet peeves I have with current YouTube reviewers at the moment. A bunch of them have reviewed the product, but not a one of them has tested it for what it's marketed as...Durability and ruggedness. What I really want to know is how durable the 510 connector is when you drop it with an atty or tank attached. But I do completely understand when reviewers don't want to sacrifice their own equipment for this test :)

Yeah, I'll let those reviewers who get their products free to do the test drops. :D The adapter on the invader mini is solid - a 'wide' threaded thing, unlike say the eGo/510 adapter on the istick, but the adapter on the Defender is actually better protected - also wide threads - which results in more surface area, etc. The 510 connection on the topper is more likely to break, imo. But based on logic rather that practice.

DPL, your BOGO will be a huge success and I for one am looking forward to it! Bill your latest review was excellent and I'm sure will add to the excitement for the Smelly/Welly little mod! :D

I sure will be glad when they get this for the Galaxy S5

VapeCase USA by LOTUS

Down in price by 30 buckaroonies. But still only for Yapple. Oh welp.

On a serious note..........

This thread is waning. Do any of you have opinions as to whether or not it's time to "let go"? I'm thinking it might be opportune to open up THE SHEET to public domain and everyone can do with it what they like.

Opinions? Suggestions? Criticisms? Comments? Pom Poms?

And for good measure.......

Vapor Beast has the MVP 20W for $26.95 (with code "YEAHBABY").

Not my favorite device. For the price however, it might be perfect for someone as a backup or stay-at-home device. The MVP has always been solid as a brick, even if it somewhat feels like one in your hand.

What's my new birthin, mudster? WTH am I doing now??? ::ohmy: OH!!!!! You mean the Tootles! Yeah, it's already grown up and has taken on a life of its own. I'm already feeling empty nested. ;)

Definitely keep a copy of it, and of course I will as well.

But DPL is right..... it's time to give it to the peeps.

So farethewell, dear THE SHEET. It's been fun and frivolous and freakin' fabulous!

Follow up on this. I received one today from Kidney Puncher. Price will likely come down as someone mentioned.

I tested the 'sleep mode' mentioned. It goes to sleep after around 4 min. 15 seconds. 5 clicks to wake. Again, for me, not a big problem. As I was testing I was taking hits off the defender and istick waiting for the intervals, so if I were just vaping the Invader mini only, I mostly wouldn't hit the sleep mode :) If you put it in your pocket or leave in the car, it will turn off by itself, however, I usually put the others to sleep in those instances anyway.

Update (tentative) on 'sleep mode'. Either I hit the 'right' sequence fiddling around or voodoo is at work, but now the 'sleep mode' is over 15 minutes, but less than an hour and a half - I mowed and had to do the 5 clicks to restart the Invader Mini :) I changed batts since the last 'test' in my original post.

eta: Ok... it's at least a half hour before sleep mode is kicking in. Tested that twice and it could be more than that, but at this point it's really not a factor. Don't know why so short at first. Perhaps getting others' input will help....

I've had my Cloupor mini for a little over a week now and I am very pleased with it thus far. The only real complaint that I have, and it's petty, is the battery cover. It's convenient for changing out the battery, but it does rattle a little. It doesn't fall off, just rattles. That's it, the only complaint I have so far. Overall, for the price a very nice mini for the money IMO.

Tear off a strip of ordinary transparent tape that's almost as long as the battery door. Cut it in half lengthwise. Apply one strip around the edge on each side of the battery door. Voilà! No more rattle.

Had a Little Scare with my Smowell today.

Coming off the Let Down of no ECF Software upgrade, and spilling Coffee on my desk, I grabbed my Smowell awkwardly and fumbled at the Power Button pushing it a Few Times to get a Hit.

I got kinda a Half Hit. And when I pulled it away, the screen Blinked.

OK...? I looked at the screen and it said 0.0W. That ain't good. The Up/Down Buttons didn't do anything. Pushing the Power Button did fire my RTA. But Very Weakly. Something just went Coo Coo for Cocoa Puffs.

No Panic. As will all things Electronic, a Power Down/UP will probably fix this.

So I dug out my Geek LED Magnifier and that Tiny Allen wrench and took the Battery Out. (First time it has been Out.) The Battery was OK, 3.9V. Put it back in. Same - Same.

Alright. Time to Figure Out what the Reset Hole does. Did a Pokus-Insertus with a Paperclip. The Smowell restarted. Cool. But it still showed 0.0W. And the Up/Down Buttons still did Nothing.

Thinking maybe my Smowell just went to the "Mother of All Machine". 1001001, SOS. 1001001, in Distress.

Maybe I have to hold down a Button while I do a Reset? Maybe the Battery should be Out of the Mod when I do it? Maybe those Bad Karma Points finally caught up to me?

Was looking at the 510 Threads with my Geek Magnifier when I noticed that there was an "M" on the Screen next to the Ohm Number.

"M" = Malfunction?

"M" = Mangled?

"M" = Mech Mode?

I vaguely remember something about the Smowell having a "Mech Mode". And Mech Mode made sense because it does Fire. And the Watts did changed when the Power Button was Pushed. Why does Stuff like this Always happen first thing in the Mourning?

I dug out the Chinglish Instructions and with some Random Button Pushing coupled with the Confusing OEM Instructions, I was able to get back into Watt Mode after about 10 Permutations of Button Pushing.

So if you Smowell all of a Sudden is Wacked, and you Can't change the Watts from 0.0W, check to see if there is an "M" on the screen. If there is, you in Mech Mode. Which I have No Clue why you would want to be? But your Are.

Anyway, Carry On.
