Soo... did anyone get the Smowell DPV 50 yet? I saw in Deals and Steals that this device was going on sale at the price of 27.99 with coupon code DPV50 at this site. I am very tempted to pick one up. It's less than $30 for a 50 watt mod! But of course the question is... why is it so cheap and is it worth it? Would rather not waste my money if it's just a piece of crap.

I'm looking for reviews. There was an interesting comment on FT saying it was SMOK M50 chip, but I have no idea how they'd know. https://www.fasttech.com/forums/2139600/t/1557116/smok-xpro-m50-board

Both the SMOK Xpro M50 and the Smowell DPV-50 have exactly the same display, but the kicker is the presence in both mods of a small reset switch "hole" located between the up and down buttons. Very few regulated boxes even have a reset switch, and the access holes for the reset being in in precisely the same place on both mods is an "ah-ha" factor for the possibility of the circuit boards being identical.

The 'Burgh, PA.
If size isn't a huge issue, you should.ve not spent all your money on the Cloupor mini and tried a IPV mini 30W and set it to DC-DC mode over the PWM mode. Not as small as the cloupor (about 3/4" taller and a mm or 2 wider and thicker), but I'm in love love the IPV Mini 30W. Same warning the cloupor mini...don't use them as passthrough or charge the battery within the unit and you should be fine. Only thing I like better about the cloupor is the magnetic battery door. Very nice, I admit.

PBusardo shows the IPV Mini only has step-down and "power boost" when in the PWM Mode (but not when set to the DC-DC Mode).

Also...when set to the PWM Mode...it automatically switches over to a DC-DC signal when the PWM signal is no longer optimal.

So...me...I leave my big :) heavy :) IPV Mini in the PWM Mode continuously.

I'm still here on ECF... sort of. ;)

I dunno Kat...

I did search, very quickly. And if you did, I apologize.

Jim

ok ok ok....... confession time. I added it as soon as I saw your post.

And thank you for that, Lolz. Appreciate it!

Oh DP...

How the Mighty have fallen!

Buy the Dragon and take your lumps like a man.

Ping did/does!?!

LOLz, Jim

Oh hon...... lead us not into (more futon) temptation!!

Now didn't I tell ya that the CFO denied the request?

And do I look like the type of guy who would go against the CFO's ruling? Do I?

Yeah/no.

me too, me too! I still can't figure out why NOT to.

gerry,

I wonder about that too. If, as Phil Busardo suggests, the oscilloscope readings show that the iPV Mini 30W in PWM mode switches over to DC-DC whenever that's more optimal---meaning that it uses PWM only when the user asks the device for a low voltage that DC-DC can't achieve---then why offer menu options for selecting PWM or DC-DC modes? Doesn't make sense.

I go with Phil and you on this one---I keep my iPV Mini 30W in PWM mode all the time. (I also have two iPV Mini 2 70Ws, but the regulating chips in those use only DC-DC and don't even offer PWM.)

It's always seemed to me that using PWM to "simulate" true step-down (buck) in voltage is pretty lame, since the device is still hitting the coil with maximum voltage, just for a very short burst. Strikes me as suspect. If I want to run an atty/clearo that requires lower-than-battery voltage, I'll put it on a regulated mod that can truly supply that lowered voltage, such as an old-style linear regulator in a VV box mod or a Twist/Spinner.

Why do we care what kind of couch Ping has? :D
It's a long & ugly story. Lolz Jim dragged a story from another thread in here. In summary, there was some concern that Ping would be forced to move in with me if he bought one more mod.

Y'know, kicked out by the Missus.
