So, I got my new EVOD yesterday and I love the vape but I'm already running into the dreaded gurgling/leaking issue. I did a little research and it appears that using a different flavor wick (not the one the coil's wrapped around but the one that sits on top of it) might help. I really don't want to wait for days to order wick from a supplier and I know people have spoken of using cotton, cheesecloth, etc. for wicks. I'd like to hear thoughts on this from you more experienced vapers.

I've used cheesecloth from Bed Bath and Beyond, 6/0 100% cotton braided wick (NO zinc, and should be available at craft stores), and the Peaches and Creme ecru yarn from Walmart. I boiled them all for about 20 minutes and then air dried before using. This is what I found for rebuilding the Kanger T3, T3S, and Evod:

Cheesecloth: best taste and fastest saturation, but separating the strands takes the longest. Works great, though, and I used this method:

Braided wick: hard to thread through existing coil, but works great if you wrap your coil around it. It swelled a lot, so no flavor wick needed.

P&C yarn: easy to thread through existing coil. I did need 2 strands (yarn is 4 strands thick) as a flavor wick.

YMMV, but I hope this helps.

Great info. Thanks!

It turns out that the fix I saw for the EVOD involved adding a flavor wick on top of what's already there, not actually replacing the wicks. I misread it the first time around.

You're welcome! Give rewicking the whole thing a try, and I think you'll like the results. If you decide to try the cheesecloth or the yarn, definitely get one of these doodads to make threading through the coil MUCH easier:

2 3/4" Open Eye Beading Needles | Shop Hobby Lobby

For the yarn, I take a length of 2 strands, insert in beading needle, then pull through coil. You'll then have 4 strands through coil, and you may not even need a flavor wick in the Evod. Just be sure to saturate the cotton thoroughly before firing! I put a few drops of juice on the rewicked coil before reassembling, then wait some more after reattaching the head to the filled tank.

Good luck!

a Q-tip is to big to fit down the throat of an EVOD so I just pull some off
so it does fit. That extra was sitting on my desk next to me while I was building a coil
one day and I thought; "Hmmm, why not", after reading people using cotton

so I twisted up the left over and layed it on top and it worked just fine...

(take the ones that are on there off and save for another time)

Cool!

God knows I've got plenty of Q-tips at home; I think they're the vaper's best friend next to paper towels.

I can definitely see myself getting into rewicking/recoiling but for the moment, I'd like to try a quick fix. I noticed quite a bit of condensation in the drip tip when using the EVOD and I suspect this condensation could be part of the problem.

The cheesecloth is great because its repeatable once you find the right strand count. You need so little, once you boil a sheet of it, you've got wicking material for the foreseeable future.
Cotton is plentiful, cheap, and tastes good. Can't beat it.

I would remove the existing flavor wicks and replace with the Qtip cotton. Be careful though. Cotton expands and can clog the air tube, so just a thin pinch.
If you find your draw just got really tight, open it back up and pull a little out.

There's no need to boil cheesecloth at all. Straight off the roll here, and I don't count strands. I cut a piece about 1/4" wide off and roll it between my fingers until I get to around 3mm thickness. Wrap it and go. Add another 1mm or so as a flavor wick and you should be good.

If flooding becomes a problem, increase the amount of flavor wicking you add.

Y'all are gonna make me start rebuilding coils again. Bad influence, you ECF'ers.

I'm heading off to Walmart in a little while. I'm on vacation sadly, sadly for the fact I didn't go anywhere lol. Anyways, does Walmart carry it? I may try a cheesecloth wick tomorrow. Does it burn as easily as cotton?

It is cotton, so yeah... it'll burn if you do it wrong.

BTW, I didn't go anywhere for vacation this year, either. I did go to College Station last weekend for the greatest college football game I think I've ever seen, but that was only a two-day trip.

If I lived in the Gulf Coast I wouldn't leave either lol. I don't know if I told you but I used to live near Gulf Shores, AL. I've lived in different parts of the country (originally from the Miami area) and by far my favorite place is the Gulf Coast.
